Top Notch Openings: Konosuba Season 2

When it comes to anime, many of us appreciate more than the actual show itself. As for me, I appreciate a good opening. Sounds cliche, but a good opening can hype up my experience as an viewer. It's the rule of cool factor. It's not much different than a killer album cover from your favorite artists.

For the most part, openings tend to be a montage of characters or even clips from the show. The song used usually fit the series and is often part of an artist's discography. Granted, they are the short form of the song since most openings are about 90 seconds. Sometimes, the opening may be the only saving grace of a show. I'm not gonna give examples to prevent offending people.

One of my favorite openings, though, comes from the Konosuba series. In particular, from the second season. If you are not familiar with the series, it is a comedic isekai, where the world has heavy MMORPG elements.

Unlike many of the openings out there, it actually tells you a story. In fact, it shows you a quest the party embarks on. The said quest is not from any of the source material. So, it's an original creation by the animation studio.

The opening shows the quirks of each party member and how they approach the quest. It's over the top, as expected from the comedy, but it's congruent with the series. In the end, the party celebrates with everyone in the tavern after completing the quest. It gives the viewers a glimpse of what an average working day would be like for adventurers in the world.

The opening also doesn't contain any spoilers from the show. To me, that's a rare feat. Of course, the song itself is catchy and upbeat. It fits with the setting. And if you are a fan since the first season, the opening contains many details about the characters that would bring a smile to your face.

If you haven't checked out the series, I do recommend it. It's a comedy many would enjoy minus a few running gags that may offend people.

I don't watch a ton of anime, but I understand what you are saying about the opening spoiling the plot of the show. I have seen that happen quite a bit in the shows that I have watched.

This is why I thought this specific opening was quite nice in that it tells a short story and tell you nothing about what's gonna take place.
