The natural procedure of menopause.

The menopause stage is what some women dread so greatly, but is it really something to be scared about? It is a naturally occurring biological process. It is that time in a woman's life when the person has gone through 12 months without seeing her menstrual circle.
Menopause is a natural aging stage that signifies the end of a woman's reproductive years. Averagely, it is believed to begin when a woman gets to the age of 51.

The natural process of menopause is in three stages, it is a gradual process;

  • Perimenopause or menopause transition: This stage could start 8-10 years before the actual menopause starts when the ovaries gradually begin to produce lesser estrogen. Most likely, it will start when the woman is in her 40s, and premenopause will last up to menopause which is the point where the ovaries sieze to release eggs.

At the final stage of perimenopause, there is an acceleration of estrogen drop, it is when this happens that some people begin to experience symptoms of menopause, but there is still a possibility for a woman to get pregnant at this stage because menstrual cycles are still going on.

  • Menopause: The actual menopause stage is the point where there are no more menstrual periods. At this point, the ovaries have stopped the release of eggs and have stopped the production of most of their own estrogen.

  • Postmenopause: This stage signifies that a woman hasn't had her menstrual cycle in an entire year. Sometimes, the menstrual symptoms will get better and for some others, the transition phase could last up to a decade. Since this stage comes with a lower estrogen level, the women who are in the postmenopausal phase stand an increased chance of being exposed to several health conditions.

Experiencing some or all of these symptoms signifies the likely possibility of menopause;

  • Vaginal dryness creating discomfort during sex.
  • Urinary urgency.
  • Inability to sleep adequately.
  • Sweating profusely at night.
  • Breast tenderness.
  • Dry mouth, eyes, and skin.
  • Emotional change.

It is not also abnormal for some other symptoms like; weight gain, change in sex drive, weight gain, headache, racing heart, memory lapses, and hair loss to contribute to the symptoms felt. Menopause may have clearly come after 12 months. A woman can know when she has reached menopause when she has gone for 12 months successfully without her monthly period.

Since menopause is a natural occurrence and not an infection, there is usually no need for a medical requirement, but when some of the symptoms of menopause begin to disrupt a woman's life, there are treatments for it. The available treatment options are; Hormone and Nonhormonal treatments.
Hormone therapy comes in two forms; Estrogen therapy (ET) and Estrogen progesterone/Progestin hormone therapy (EPT).

Health risk for hormone therapy comes with; Blood clots, stroke, gallstones, endometrial cancer, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. Two conditions that basically affect a woman's health after menopause are; osteoporosis and coronary artery disease.

Certain medical conditions increase after menopause, some situations are;

  • Osteoporosis.
  • Heart and blood vessels.
  • Urinary incontinence.
  • Weight gain.
  • Sexual function.

The treatments for menopause include;

  • Lubricants for vaginal dryness.
  • Lifestyle changes.
  • Supplements and medications that can help prevent osteoporosis.
  • Hormonal treatments that will help to manage hot flashes and other symptoms.

Conclusion.

Menopause is a natural occurrence and should be nothing to worry about, but managing the challenges that comes with it requires some intentional decision to be made, which should be guided by a health care professional.
