I Thought I Had Died

For a moment, I believed I had passed into the realm of the departed. All I could perceive was an eerie silence, broken only by the crackling energy surging through my body, igniting every nerve with an electrifying intensity.

Oh dear!

Let me tell you what really happened.

So few days ago, examination for this semester ended, and trust me everyone was glad, and I was too.

For every corner you turn on campus, you'd see student milling about and around, and those with big bags going home already.

But then, I already called my parents days earlier that I wasn't going to come home immediately after my exams, I just want to stay back in my hostel and relaxxx. Hahaha.

So it came as a shock when I woke up the following morning to cook, and I discovered that my gas has finished.

Like, I really didn't notice or maybe, it was an oversight from my part.

Oh boy! I couldn't even call home, because I'm sure I will hear my dad voice over the phone telling me to come home already and I wasn't ready to go home for real.

Anyone who sees me that morning would think I haven't eaten for days. I was looking so hungry and it looks like I would fall down soon.

And so you know, this isn't that time of the semester when you'd see cereals or any of those things. Lol 😅

So, I had to drag myself to my neighbour's room, and God helped me, there was light.

So, I requested that she allow me use her hotplate, and she obliged.

I went back into the room, picked everything I was going to need to prepare the rice and went back to her room.

Immediately I got in, I heard her say "put on the light o."

And I did obediently. I didn't realise she said something else.

I put my food and everything that needed to be in the pot inside it, and I went back outside.

After few minutes, I came back, and went straight to the kitchen humming a song.

Mind you, there was water on the floor of her kitchen, but I actually overlooked it again, and just went ahead to stir my food.

Oh dear!

The only thing I know was that my body was cackling with so much energy from the electric shock.

In my mind, I was like " wait, wait, hol up!"

Trust me I tried to shout, but it was all to no avail.

I don't know how long it lasted, but it looked like forever 🥺.(though I read it was just seconds. Lol).

Immediately I felt some release, I jumped away and started screaming.

My neighbor ran into the kitchen, and noticed what happened, she turned off the socket connected to the hotplate and dragged me out with her into the room.

For minutes, I was shaking. The whole shenanigans finally ended, and I could think straight again.

I had to go on the net, to find out more about electric shock, and what it does to people and how that some people end up dying.

It was a truamatic experience for me, and I became extra cautious whenever I go into her kitchen or even touch anything electrical.

Petty? Maybe!

But still, I haven't been able to wrap my head around it.

Why didn't she mop the floor before I came in?

What if it was a more severe situation, what will we be saying?

Or could it be my fault that I wasn't very observant on my environment, and I had to step on the water on the kitchen floor? What do you think?
