NaPodPoMo 101: Getting Started

Some simple yet helpful considerations when it comes getting your podcast started for National Podcast Post Month. This was hosted inside the NaPodPoMo Facebook Group using the Audio Room feature.

Tips Overview:

  1. Start with your smartphone. It is the production studio in your pocket.
  2. Use the headphones that came with your phone.
  3. Use a mobile app to record your podcast for NaPodPoMo. A few options:
    • Podbean
    • Spreaker Studio
    • Anchor
    • Twitter Spaces + Zealous

There are many other options. These are just a few easy to use apps which have both free and paid options.

Audio Quality:

Your mobile phone may have audio enhancing features. Such as Voice Isolation included with iPhones.

Environment plays a big role in the audio quality. Smaller rooms with soft surfaces sound better. A walk-in closet filled with clothes is a built in sound booth. The clothes buffer the sound waves which results in a warm and rich audio quality. Avoid large rooms with high ceilings and an over abundance of hard surfaces. Recording in this type of environment will result in a tinny, thin, hollow sound.

The goal of this session was to encourage new podcasters by providing simple tools and effective audio techniques to deliver a good audio experience for listeners.

Aureal.One which is Hive's podcasting dApp created by @blockanarchist1 can function as either the host for your audio or as a conduit for your existing podcast feed. You will need a Hive account (which you already have) and Hivesigner to log in.

You do not have to use an on-chain dApp. You can use Web2 options like Anchor, Podbean, Spreaker Studio, etc. These are mobile apps which have free and paid options.

For each year's NaPodPoMo I create an aggregated mega feed of all of the podcast RSS feeds into one single feed. Right now I am gathering those feeds and will share the single feed next week. So, please share your feed in the comments of this post. This feed will include the Web2 NaPodPoMo challengers as well. You can find them both in the FB group and within Twitter using the hashtag #NaPodPoMo

Wow! I'm really behind regarding the different options it seems! 😩 I did not know I had so many of them.
I've heard a lot about Uploading a Podcast into multiple platforms like Amazon, Spotify, and the like. On top of Aureal.One, you just mention a few others. I'm happy on the Hive Blockchain, and I think I'm technically savvy - only a little "Outdated" in regard to Podcasting, as you can see 🤣 I'm thinking long range and I want to use a user-friendly but stable option. What would you recommend?

Yes indeed. There are a couple of easy start options.
Download a mobile app with free services like Anchor, Podbean, Spreaker Studio. There is also Aureal.One (referral link) which is right here on Hive.

I am going to test out the Twitter Spaces to Zealous to Aureal to see if that works.
