Handicrafts and the buying of supplies (Esp/Eng)

¡Hola comunidad!
Hoy es día feriado en mi país, aun así salí a hacer diligencias ignorando que posiblemente todo estaba cerrado...
Producto de los terremotos, al querer salir apresuradamente dañé la cerradura y hasta partí las llaves dentro, logré sacar la llave sin embargo la cerradura quedó en muy mal estado... Busqué ofertas, porque ese tipo de cerraduras es muy costoso y si bien, hasta una donación recibí de un collar cervical, un gasto adicional se veía venir, luego de reparar la puerta del garaje debo reparar mi puerta de entrada, pues se desniveló y cuesta abrirla, es importante que ambas puertas estén en buen estado para permitir la salida sin contratiempos ustedes saben... prevención.
En las tiendas locales las cerraduras estaban más costosas (siendo las mismas y de la misma marca) me salía más rentable comprarla por tiendas online y correr el riesgo, hoy retiré la encomienda, la revisé y se ve todo bien. Ahora esperar que un amigo se desocupe y pueda ayudarme con la reparación, sorprendentemente en mi localidad hay varios vecinos que están reparando sus hogares de los daños producto de los sismos.
Ya que iba al centro, por supuesto que visitaría a mi artesano favorito Pablo y ojear sus nuevas creaciones, pedí permiso para tomar fotografía sy mostrarlas a ustedes.

Today is a public holiday in my country, but I still went out to run some errands, not realising that everything might be closed...
Because of the earthquakes, I damaged the lock in my haste to get out and even snapped the keys off inside it. I managed to get the key out, but the lock was left in a very bad state... I looked for bargains, because that type of lock is very expensive, and although I even received a donation of a cervical collar, an additional expense was on the cards. After repairing the garage door, I need to fix my front door, as it’s become uneven and is difficult to open. It’s important that both doors are in good condition to ensure we can get out without any hitches – you know… better safe than sorry.
In local shops, the locks were more expensive (even though they were the same model and brand), so it worked out cheaper for me to buy them online and take the risk. Today I collected the parcel, checked it over and everything looks fine. Now I’m just waiting for a friend to find some spare time so they can help me with the repair. Surprisingly, in my neighbourhood there are several people who are repairing their homes following the damage caused by the earthquakes.
As I was heading into town anyway, I naturally popped in to see my favourite craftsman, Pablo, and have a look at his new creations. I asked his permission to take some photos so I could show them to you.

Pablo tiene un puesto de exhibición de artesanías, bisutería y arte en los alrededores del Museo Antropológico de Maracay junto a otros artesanos. Me encanta la creatividad que tiene cada uno y la cantidad de años que tienen allí, es admirable.
Con técnicas de alambrismo, Pablo me mostró su nueva colección de arañas, escorpiones y otros objetos a los que incrusta piedras, conchas y algunas da color.
Hace meses le compré una de sus piezas de escorpiones, desde niña he sido muy fan de estos objetos.

Pablo has a stall selling handicrafts, costume jewellery and art near the Maracay Anthropological Museum, alongside other craftspeople. I love the creativity each of them displays and the number of years they’ve been there – it’s truly admirable.
Using wire-work techniques, Pablo showed me his new collection of spiders, scorpions and other objects into which he inlays stones and shells, and some of which he colours.
A few months ago, I bought one of his scorpion pieces from him; I’ve been a big fan of these objects ever since I was a child.

Muchas de sus piezas de alambrismo están intencionadas para ser un porta incienso. Su agilidad para moldear el alambre y crear figuras perfectas es impresionante, también nos reímos de las cosas que se le ocurren por ejemplo la bicicleta... Fue estupendo.
En ocasiones cuando lo visito puedo ver de su proceso creativo y me enseña algunas técnicas para bisutería, le agradezco mucho.
Es un gran amigo y una buena persona que siempre se muestra amigable en la atención al publico. Lo recomiendo.

Many of his wirework pieces are designed to be incense holders. His skill in shaping the wire and creating perfect figures is impressive; we also have a laugh at the things he comes up with – like the bicycle, for example… It was brilliant.
Sometimes when I visit him, I get to see his creative process and he shows me some jewellery-making techniques; I’m very grateful to him.
He’s a great friend and a good person who’s always friendly when dealing with customers. I highly recommend him.

Necesitaba cartulinas de colores para continuar creando tarjetas, en la tienda tenían foami moldeable y super económico, quisiera experimentar con este material para crear figuras, he trabajado con masa flexible pero esto es otra cosa...
Si alguien sabe de esto quisiera saber algún consejo para evitar que una vez abierto un paquete se seque.
Por otro lado.. la cerradura de embutir, este es especial para portones y se le conoce como "pico de loro" aunque se le llama gancho basculante.
El que usa mi puerta es especial, de los pequeños y ese hacía años que no se conseguía en mi país. ¡Qué bueno fue encontrarlo! Ahora espero que mi portón sea reparado pronto.

I needed coloured card to carry on making cards; the shop had some mouldable foam that was really cheap. I’d like to experiment with this material to make shapes – I’ve worked with modelling clay before, but this is something else entirely...
If anyone knows anything about this, I’d love some advice on how to stop it from drying out once the packet’s been opened.
On another note… the mortise lock – this one’s specifically for gates and is known as a ‘parrot’s beak’, although it’s also called a swing hook.
The one on my gate is a special, small type, and it hadn’t been available in my country for years. I was so pleased to find it! Now I’m hoping my gate will be repaired soon.

No sé cómo lo hace pero lo he visto haciéndolo, es impresionante, así veo su paso a paso no me entra en la cabeza jajajaj! Todo lo que el imagina en su mente lo puede crear con sus manos <3 Es impresionante cómo trabaja su cerebro.

It is good to see the artistic side of a person. they looks too good for decorating any home or office table.
I bought him a scorpion a few months ago; I’ve got it on a small table <3 I love it.

La vida a veces nos pone a prueba con imprevistos que nos obligan a priorizar la seguridad, y tu enfoque en la prevención no es solo lógico, sino profundamente responsable. Gestionar los daños de los sismos mientras mantienes la calma y buscas soluciones eficientes demuestra una gran entereza.
