📚 Book Review: Before The Coffee Gets Cold [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Espero que estén teniendo buenas lecturas. Hoy les quiero compartir un libro de literatura asiática llamado Antes de que se enfríe el café del autor Toshikazu Kawaguchi.

Hello fellow readers! I hope you are having good reads. Today I want to share with you an Asian literature book called Before The Coffee Gets Cold by author Toshikazu Kawaguchi.

En una cafetería de nombre Funikuri Funikura se originó un rumor de que podías viajar al pasado, pero nada es tan simple como parece, ya que hay ciertas reglas que cumplir: 1) solo podes regresar a esa cafetería y encontrarte con una persona que haya ido también; 2) hagas lo que hagas, el presente no va a cambiar; 3) tenés que sentarte en un asiento en particular y si está ocupado tenés que esperar que la persona se levante; 4) en el pasado no tenes permitido levantarte de ese asiento; 5) podes permanecer en el pasado solo hasta que se enfríe el café.

In a coffee shop named Funikuri Funikura, a rumor originated that you could travel to the past, but nothing is as simple as it seems, since there are certain rules to follow: 1) you can only go back to that coffee shop and meet a person who has gone there as well; 2) whatever you do, the present will not change; 3) you have to sit in a particular seat and if it is occupied you have to wait for the person to get up; 4) in the past you are not allowed to get up from that seat; 5) you can stay in the past only until the coffee gets cold.

En este libro conoceremos 4 historias diferentes, pero que estarán entrelazadas entre sí, de personajes que se animaron a viajar en el tiempo para cerrar esos pendientes que los tenían atormentados.

In this book we will know 4 different stories, but that will be intertwined with each other, of characters who dared to travel in time to close those pending that had them tormented.

Creo que me estoy volviendo fan de la literatura asiática porque sus libros siempre tienen alguna filosofía que compartir o nos dejan una enseñanza. Además nos invitan a la reflexión e incluso nos pueden interpelar de cierta manera. También es un tipo de lectura que puede dar la impresión de que no está pasando nada, cuando está pasando de todo.

I think I'm becoming a fan of Asian literature because their books always have some philosophy to share or teach us something. They are also thought-provoking and can even challenge us in a certain way. It is also a type of reading that can give the impression that nothing is happening, when everything is happening.

Este es un libro con historias tranquilas, aunque siento que van in crescendo a nivel emocional. Cada una que sigue es más desgarradora que la anterior, hasta llegar a su fin y ahí sientes que todo tuvo sentido. Aunque también siento que tuvo un final agridulce, pero eso lo hizo mucho más significativo.

This is a book with quiet stories, although I feel they crescendo on an emotional level. Each one that follows is more heartbreaking than the last, until you get to the end and there you feel like it all made sense. Although I also feel it had a bittersweet ending, but that made it that much more meaningful.

En particular, conecté mucho y me encantó la tercera historia, la de las hermanas. Ese relato me conmovió muchísimo, derrame un par de lágrimas leyéndolo, fue bastante duro y me sentí con impotencia al ver qué se tuvo que llegar a lo que pasó para que haya algún cambio. No les digo más para no hacerles spoiler, pero fue mi historia favorita de este libro.

In particular, I really connected with and loved the third story, the one about the sisters. That story moved me so much, I shed a couple of tears reading it, it was quite hard and I felt helpless to see what it had to come to what happened for there to be any change. I won't tell you more so as not to give you spoilers, but it was my favorite story in this book.

La verdad es que los personajes son bastantes entrañables y cada uno con una personalidad única, me encantó que fueran todos tan diferentes entre sí. También tiene ciertos tintes paranormales que involucran a una mujer de vestido blanco. Esa es la única parte que reprochó porque no se entendió muy bien y fue alguien importante en la historia, me hubiera gustado conocer más de esta mujer.

The truth is that the characters are quite endearing and each with a unique personality, I loved that they were all so different from each other. It also has some paranormal overtones involving a woman in a white dress. That's the only part I disapproved of because it wasn't very well understood and she was someone important in the story, I would have liked to know more about this woman.

Pero bueno, por lo que tengo entendido este libro tiene más partes así que quizá allí se revelé más información al respecto, aunque no sé si aparecerán los mismos personajes. Espero leerlos pronto para salir de dudas.

But well, from what I understand this book has more parts so maybe more information about it will be revealed there, although I don't know if the same characters will appear. I hope to read them soon to find out.

Es un libro que recomiendo bastante si quieren leer algo corto y reflexivo. La verdad es que lo disfruté bastante y me dieron ganas de continuar esta historia. Quizá tenga un ritmo lento en más de una ocasión, pero créanme que vale la pena esta lectura.

It is a book that I highly recommend if you want to read something short and thoughtful. The truth is that I enjoyed it quite a lot and it made me want to continue this story. It may have a slow pace on more than one occasion, but believe me it is worth the read.
