📚 Book Review: Better Than The Movies [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Espero que se encuentren todos muy bien y estén teniendo muy buenas lecturas. En el día de hoy les quiero compartir la primera reseña del año con el libro Mejor que en las películas de Lynn Painter.

Hello fellow readers! I hope you are all feeling great and are having great reads. Today I want to share with you the first review of the year with the book Better Than The Movies by Lynn Painter.

Trama - Plot

Liz Buxbaum es una adolescente que vive a base de las comedias románticas, crea playlist perfectas para todo momento y uno de sus sueños es vivir un romance de película como a las que le gustan a su madre y a ella. Su sueño se puede hacer realidad al enterarse de que volvió a su antiguo barrio Michael, el chico que le gustaba desde que era una niña. Ahí descubre que él es muy amigo de su insufrible vecino al que odia, Wes Bennet. Para cumplir su objetivo de captar la atención de Michael decide hacer un trato con Wes que consiste en solicitar su ayuda para que Michael crea que es una chica guay y se interese por ella a cambio del sitio de aparcamiento por el que se llevan peleando hace un año.

Liz Buxbaum is a teenager who lives on romantic comedies, creates playlists perfect for all times and one of her dreams is to live a movie romance like the ones she and her mother like. Her dream may come true when she learns that Michael, the boy she's had a crush on since she was a little girl, has returned to her old neighborhood. There she discovers that he is close friends with her insufferable neighbor whom she hates, Wes Bennet. To accomplish her goal of getting Michael's attention she decides to make a deal with Wes that consists of soliciting his help to make Michael think she's a cool girl and take an interest in her in exchange for the parking spot they've been fighting over for a year.

Con el plan puesto en marcha Liz empieza a descubrir que Wes no es para nada lo que ella creía y se da cuenta que le gusta pasar tiempo con él, ya que puede ser ella misma y comienza a desarrollar sentimientos hacia este. Ahora tendrá que tomar una decisión que puede alterar su vida y la de otras personas que cayeron en este enredo amoroso.

With the plan in place Liz begins to discover that Wes is not at all what she thought he was and realizes that she enjoys spending time with him because she can be herself and begins to develop feelings for him. Now she will have to make a decision that may alter her life and the lives of others who fell into this love entanglement.

Reseña . Review

Este fue un libro bastante popular en las redes sociales y por ello me hicieron dar ganas de leerlo. Es una historia de esas que me agradan, realmente me mantuvo entretenida y expectante. Adoré toda la estética del libro y sus personajes. Me encanta que cada capítulo empiece con una frase emblemática de alguna romcom de las clásicas que más de uno seguro que vimos y si no lo hicimos las reconocemos de todos modos.

This was a very popular book on social networks and that's why it made me want to read it. It is one of those stories that I like, it really kept me entertained and expectant. I loved the whole aesthetic of the book and its characters. I love that each chapter starts with an emblematic phrase of some classic romcom that more than one of us surely saw and if we didn't we recognize them anyway.

La historia de amor es muy juvenil y reconfortante, no sé si es mejor que en las películas, pero sin dudas creo que cualquier amor se siente así. Además, tuvo momentos súper cómicos y de comedia de verdad.

The love story is very youthful and heartwarming, I don't know if it's better than in the movies, but I definitely think any love feels like that. Also, it had super comical and real comedy moments.

Me gustó Liz como protagonista, aunque se me hacía un tanto insoportable cada cierto tiempo. Sin embargo, la comprendo. Wes me pareció muy genial, aunque también tuvo sus momentos un poco extraños y cuestionables.

I liked Liz as the main character, although she became somewhat unbearable to me every so often. However, I understand her. Wes I thought was very cool, although he also had his slightly odd and questionable moments.

Creo que mi personaje favorito fue Helena, la madrastra de Liz. Esa mujer tuvo que derribar muros muy altos. La quiero por nunca rendirse y demostrar que las madrastras pueden ser muy buenas también.

I think my favorite character was Helena, Liz's stepmother. That woman had to break down very high walls. I love her for never giving up and proving that stepmothers can be great too.

En definitiva, es un libro genial para pasar el rato, es entretenido, logra atrapar tu atención desde el principio y es bastante ligero. Así que lo recomiendo para intercalar con otras lecturas más pesadas o para los amantes de este tipo de historias al estilo comedias románticas. Lo disfruté bastante.

All in all, it's a great book to pass the time, it's entertaining, it manages to catch your attention from the beginning and it's quite light. So I recommend it to intersperse with other heavier reading or for lovers of this type of romantic comedy style stories. I enjoyed it a lot.
