En esta historia conoceremos a Grace, una joven que fue concebida para salvar a su hermana Lucy con leucemia. Logro curarla un tiempo, pero el cuerpo de Lucy siguió enfermo durante muchos años, entrando y saliendo de urgencias. Hasta que un día muere, pero antes le dejo a Grace un juego de mesa que creo ella misma llamado El mapa de los anhelos donde deberá ir completando las consignas para llegar al final y a medida que avance se encontrará con ella misma y su nuevo propósito en la vida. Pero no lo hará sola, Lucy le dejo el juego encargado a Will, un amigo que hizo mientras estaba internada en el hospital. Will deberá ayudar a Grace a sanar y al mismo tiempo encontrar su propio camino para hacer lo mismo.

In this story, we’ll meet Grace, a young woman who was conceived to save her sister Lucy, who had leukemia. She managed to cure her for a while, but Lucy’s body remained sick for many years, as she went in and out of the emergency room. Until one day she dies, but before she does, she leaves Grace a board game she created herself called The Map of Desires, in which Grace must complete the challenges to reach the end; as she progresses, she’ll discover herself and her new purpose in life. But she won’t do it alone—Lucy entrusted the game to Will, a friend she made while she was hospitalized. Will must help Grace heal and, at the same time, find his own path to doing the same.

Es mi primera vez leyendo a esta escritora y fue una buena experiencia. La historia es muy emotiva, pero inspiradora. Está narrada a dos voces, la de Grace y la de Will, me encantó como estuvo estructurado porque al principio no fue un capítulo de uno y un capítulo del otro, sino que primero vimos una parte de la historia, la de Grace, y luego la de Will. Y despues sí, la de los dos juntos. Eso me resultó bastante dinámico más que leer uno y uno. Pudimos conocer la historia de los dos.

This is the first time I've read this author, and it was a great experience. The story is very moving, yet inspiring. It’s told from two perspectives—Grace’s and Will’s—and I loved how it was structured because at first it wasn’t one chapter from one character and then one from the other; instead, we first saw one part of the story—Grace’s—and then Will’s. And then, yes, the part where they’re together. I found that much more dynamic than reading one chapter at a time. We got to know both of their stories.

Aunque a mí me gustó muchísimo más el punto de vista de Grace, pude conectar con ella y el sentirse perdida y estancada en la vida. Hay muchas frases hermosas que no marque porque todavía no estoy acostumbrada a marcar libros, pero que sí saque algunas fotos. Fue muy sentida su narración. En cambio, la de Will me desesperaba un poco, no pude empatizar tanto con su historia, pero me alegro que al final haya encontrado la voluntad que le faltaba para pasar la página y empezar de nuevo.

Although I liked Grace’s point of view much more, I was able to relate to her and to that feeling of being lost and stuck in life. There are many beautiful passages that I didn’t highlight—since I’m not used to marking up books yet—but I did take some photos of them. Her narrative was very heartfelt. Will’s, on the other hand, drove me a little crazy; I couldn’t empathize as much with his story, but I’m glad that in the end he found the will he was lacking to turn the page and start over.

También me gusto mucho el crecimiento que tuvieron ambos personajes a su manera, el de Grace fue impresionante, y me pareció muy bien que priorizara su deseo y sus ganas de ver el mundo más allá de una relación amorosa. Es muy valiente de su parte.

I also really liked how both characters grew in their own ways; Grace's growth was impressive, and I thought it was great that she prioritized her desire and eagerness to see the world over a romantic relationship. That was very brave of her.

En la trama también hay otros personajes, como los padres de Lucy y Grace que están atravesando su propio duelo de haber perdido a una hija después de todo. Sobre todo la madre, que abandono una carrera exitosa para ocuparse de su hija y ahora deberá volver a empezar a reconstruirse. Me gustó mucho su personaje también, es de los que más se fue notando el crecimiento y la sanación a medida que las páginas avanzaban.

The story also features other characters, such as Lucy and Grace’s parents, who are going through their own grief after losing a daughter after all. This is especially true of the mother, who gave up a successful career to care for her daughter and now must start over and rebuild her life. I really liked her character, too; she’s one of the characters whose growth and healing became most apparent as the story unfolded.

Un personaje que amé fue al abuelo de las chicas, ese señor es un sol. También me sentí identificada con él ya que los dos somos callados, de poca conversación, pero cuando hablamos lo hacemos bien directo, sin rodeos.

One character I loved was the girls' grandfather—he's such a ray of sunshine. I also identified with him because we're both quiet and don't talk much, but when we do speak, we're very direct and to the point.

Es un libro que recomiendo leer, ya que puede resultar inspirador y al final te hace sentir bien, también te permite poner las cosas en perspectiva y valorar más está vida que tenemos. Que a veces no viene mal recordarlo, que hay que vivir, para eso estamos acá, para sentirlo todo, lo bueno y lo malo.

I recommend reading this book, as it can be inspiring and ultimately makes you feel good; it also helps you put things into perspective and appreciate the life we have even more. Sometimes it doesn’t hurt to remember that we have to live—that’s why we’re here—to experience it all, the good and the bad.
