📚 My top reads of the first half of the year [ES/EN]

¡Hola amigos lectores! Como ya pasó medio año les traigo este resumen de las mejores lecturas que tuve este primer semestre. Leí un total de 14 libros y aunque todos fueron buenas lecturas, considero que 4 de ellos se destacaron y acá se los traigo. Todos tienen reseña completa en mi perfil.

Hello, readers! Since half a year has already gone by, I’m bringing you this roundup of the best books I read this first semester. I read a total of 14 books, and although they were all good reads, I think 4 of them really stood out, so here they are. You can find full reviews of all of them on my profile.

Proyecto Hail Mary del autor Andy Weir

Este es un 5 estrellas indiscutible para mí. Me encantó desde la primera página y eso que no suelo leer mucha ciencia ficción. Además de que tiene mucha ciencia, cálculos y números, me sentí fascinada con cada información que venía incluida en la trama. La historia es muy interesante también, trata de la salvación del mundo, pero hay una hermosa amistad que se forma entre dos seres de distintas especies con una misión en común: salvar a sus respectivos planetas. En el proceso, se salvan a sí mismos en más de una ocasión. Considero que es un libro que hay que leer al menos una vez en la vida.

Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir

This is an undisputed 5-star book for me. I loved it from the very first page, even though I don’t usually read much science fiction. In addition to all the science, calculations, and numbers, I was fascinated by every piece of information woven into the plot. The story is also very interesting—it’s about saving the world, but there’s a beautiful friendship that forms between two beings from different species who share a common mission: to save their respective planets. In the process, they save each other on more than one occasion. I think this is a book you have to read at least once in your life.

La casa en el mar más azul del autor TJ Klune

Este también fue un 5 estrellas. Hay algo en la escritura del autor que se siente reconfortante, todos sus libros son como tomarse una bebida caliente en un día frío o como un soplo fresco en un día sofocante, y eso creo que explica bastante lo que fue leer esta historia. Al principio no dice mucho, pero a medida que avanzas lo que parecía gris se torna de color. Es una hermosa historia de familia encontrada. También recomiendo su lectura y cualquiera de este autor.

The House in The Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune

This was another 5-star read. There’s something about this author’s writing that feels comforting; all of his books are like sipping a hot drink on a cold day or like a cool breeze on a sweltering day, and I think that pretty much sums up what it was like to read this story. At first, it doesn’t reveal much, but as you read on, what seemed gray begins to take on color. It’s a beautiful story about a family reunited. I highly recommend this book and anything else by this author.

Gente que conocemos en vacaciones de la autora Emily Henry

Este fue un 4,5. Estuvo cerca de las 5 estrellas, lo leí a principio de año y ya no recuerdo muy bien porque no llegó al 5, aunque creo que fue por las idas y vueltas de los protagonistas. Pero me encantó esta historia de amor que nació de una amistad sincera que se mantuvo a lo largo de los años, con sus altas y bajas, hasta que se dijeron la verdad. Fue una linda comedia romántica con tintes reflexivos acerca de encontrarse a uno mismo también.

People We Meet on Vacation by Emily Henry

This one was a 4.5. It was close to 5 stars; I read it at the beginning of the year and I don't remember very well why it didn't quite make it to 5, though I think it was because of the back-and-forth between the main characters. But I loved this love story that grew out of a sincere friendship that lasted over the years—with its ups and downs—until they finally told each other the truth. It was a lovely romantic comedy with thoughtful undertones about finding oneself as well.

Alas de hierro de la autora Rebecca Yarros

Este lo leí hace poco y tengo la reseña más fresca. No llegó al 5 estrellas porque me aburrió un poco, por momentos se siente estancado en la primera parte, pero luego mejoró muchísimo y se volvió interesante de nuevo. No es que no lo fuera, pero sentí que estaba siempre con los mismos conflictos. También me frustró mucho la actitud de los protagonistas, las mentiras y los secretos que se escondían. Un poco inmaduros en ocasiones, no diciéndose las cosas de frente. Pero el final fue brutal, me impactó ese último acto y, bueno, tengo que leer el tercero para saber cómo sigue la historia.

Iron Flame by Rebecca Yarros

I read this one recently, so my review is still fresh. It didn’t quite earn 5 stars because it bored me a little—at times, the first part felt like it was dragging, but then it improved a lot and became interesting again. It’s not that it wasn’t interesting to begin with, but I felt like it kept circling back to the same conflicts. I was also really frustrated by the main characters’ attitudes, the lies, and the secrets they were hiding. They were a bit immature at times, not being honest with each other. But the ending was intense—that final act really blew me away—and, well, I have to read the third book to find out how the story continues.
