¡Hola amigos! Hoy me paso por acá para traerles mi reseña acerca de la miniserie española basada en el libro de la autora Alice Kellen, El mapa de los anhelos.

Hi, friends! I'm stopping by today to share my review of the Spanish miniseries based on Alice Kellen's book, The Map of Longing.

En esta historia conoceremos a Greta, una joven que fue concebida para salvar a su hermana mayor con leucemia al donarle sus células madres. El trasplante funcionó y Lucy se recuperó, pero al tiempo su cuerpo empezó a rechazar las células de Greta y se le generó una enfermedad autoinmune. Lucy muere a los 25 años, pero antes de eso, le armó una especie de juego de mesa a su hermana para ayudarla a superar su pérdida, y que descubra su nuevo propósito en la vida, ya no como su salvadora, sino como ella misma. En su camino, conoce a Will, un joven que era amigo de Lucy y a quien le dejó encargado darle el juego. Él está tan perdido como ella, y ahora ambos tendrán una nueva oportunidad de mejorar sus vidas gracias a la idea de Lucy.

In this story, we’ll meet Greta, a young woman who was conceived to save her older sister, who had leukemia, by donating her stem cells. The transplant was successful and Lucy recovered, but over time her body began to reject Greta’s cells, leading to an autoimmune disease. Lucy dies at age 25, but before that, she created a sort of board game for her sister to help her cope with her loss and discover her new purpose in life—no longer as her savior, but as her own person. Along the way, she meets Will, a young man who was a friend of Lucy’s and whom Lucy had entrusted with giving her the game. He is just as lost as she is, and now both of them will have a new chance to improve their lives thanks to Lucy’s idea.

Antes de ver la serie leí el libro y me había gustado bastante, pero ver esto fue otro tema. Hay algunas variaciones, pero en esencia es lo mismo, aunque lo emocional que me ponía en cada capítulo es algo que no me pasó mientras leía. Yo pienso que el punto fuerte de esta historia es la relación entre hermanas, es de esos vínculos que te marcan y de repente te falta tu otra mitad, aunque toda tu vida te hayas preparado para ese momento no deja de ser doloroso. Es una serie hermosa a pesar de esto.

Before watching the series, I read the book and really liked it, but watching this was a whole different story. There are a few differences, but essentially it’s the same story, although the emotional impact each episode had on me was something I didn’t experience while reading. I think the strongest aspect of this story is the relationship between the sisters—it’s one of those bonds that leave a lasting mark on you, and suddenly you feel like you’re missing your other half. Even if you’ve spent your whole life preparing for that moment, it’s still painful. Despite this, it’s a beautiful series.

Lo bueno es que no solo tratamos el duelo y dolor de Greta, sino que está el de toda su familia que también tiene que superar la ausencia de Lucy y recomponerse, quizá no como una familia entera de nuevo, pero sí como un bloque. Lo mismo con Will, él tiene sus propias heridas y fantasmas que vencer, Lucy lo sabía muy bien. Por eso aprovecho para dejarle el juego y hacerlo parte de la misión, para ayudarlo a él también a sanar.

The good thing is that we’re not just dealing with Greta’s grief and pain, but also that of her entire family, who also have to come to terms with Lucy’s absence and pull themselves together—perhaps not as a complete family again, but as a unit. The same goes for Will—he has his own wounds and demons to overcome, and Lucy knew that very well. That’s why she takes the opportunity to let him take the lead and make him part of the mission, to help him heal as well.

Por supuesto que también se da una historia de amor entre Greta y Will, pero no es el eje central, es más bien un complemento que mejora la trama, pero que sin ella igual funcionaria. La historia trata acerca de los duelos y las segundas oportunidades, de volver a encontrar tu propósito en la vida y de aprender a vivirla. Tiene un mensaje contundente que te hace reflexionar al respecto.

Of course, there’s also a love story between Greta and Will, but it isn’t the central focus; it’s more of a complement that enhances the plot, though the story would still work just as well without it. The story is about grief and second chances, about rediscovering your purpose in life and learning to live it. It has a powerful message that makes you reflect on these themes.

A mí lo que más me gustó y me resultó muy emotivo de ver es que vemos como Greta sigue viendo a su hermana a su lado en cada paso que da y que ella le lee las cartas que le deja como si estuviera al lado. Ver eso me emocionaba un montón, es que el amor de estas hermanas es lo mejor de la serie. A medida que avanzan los capítulos ves cómo cada personaje de esta serie empieza a mejorar y aprende a seguir adelante con su pérdida. Eso es lo lindo de todo. Te demuestra que se puede seguir adelante, y eso no implica que te olvides de la persona que ya no está, sino que su ausencia ya no te pesa tanto y no te deja paralizada.

What I liked the most—and found really moving—was seeing how Greta continues to see her sister by her side with every step she takes, and how she reads the letters her sister leaves for her as if she were right there. Seeing that really moved me—the love between these sisters is the best part of the series. As the episodes go on, you see how each character in the series begins to heal and learns to move forward with their loss. That’s the beauty of it all. It shows you that it’s possible to move forward, and that doesn’t mean forgetting the person who’s gone, but rather that their absence no longer weighs so heavily on you and doesn’t leave you paralyzed.

Me encantaron los actores elegidos y la pareja protagonista tuvo bastante química, lo que sumó mucho a la historia. Punto para la musicalización y la fotografía también. Es una historia hermosa la verdad, no tengo nada que reprocharle. Así que recomiendo un montón verla, siento que vale la pena. Me encantó atravesar este viaje junto a sus personajes.

I loved the cast, and the lead couple had great chemistry, which really added to the story. Kudos to the soundtrack and cinematography, too. It’s a beautiful story, honestly—I have no complaints. So I highly recommend watching it; I think it’s worth it. I loved going on this journey alongside the characters.
