Among The Luckiest This Time

avatar

There are two days till the end of March and we're also about to close Q1. I can't believe 3 months of the year are gone, but this is reality. This is where people say I can't believe how fast time flies. I don't, as it wasn't fast at all but then again, I don't want it to be fast either. Time has it's own pace and you need to know how to use it to your advantage. However, unfortunately, things don't always depend on you and no matter how well you organize things, sometimes things get brutally delayed.

This may look like a quarterly report, based on the intro, but it's not. It's just a string of events that made me think of how things work and why.

The Bad

My ID was due to expire in March, so in January, I handed in a request to renew it. Although I had almost 2 months at my disposal to do that, I wanted to do it in time, just to be on the safe side. The process takes 5 days according to their website, which is reasonable in my opinion, but my request got rejected. The reason was my address, which should have been fine, but they didn't like how the land registry office mentioned the number on the document.

I was sent to the the urban planning office, to get a document that authenticates my exact address, which I did right away as I knew time was of the essence. So I handed in a request, which said the matter was urgent, got a registration number and a phone number. I was told it takes about three weeks, but I can phone after a week, which I did. Little did I know what was waiting for me.

Long story short, I had to phone them every other day, for 4 weeks, till I got the document in my hand. It took them FOUR WEEKS, to issue a document, which required only a check in the database, nothing more. It took them one week, only to sign it. Three signatures were needed in that damn document, although I'm sure two people had zero idea what they were signing as the work did not require several people.

In the meantime I got bombarded by exchanges, trading platforms, banks and not only, to submit my new ID. Should I fail to do that, my accounts would be frozen and only withdrawal would be available. We all know that without a valid ID, legally you are no one, you don't exist.

After I got the document from urban planning, obviously my land register certificate already expired as that's only valid for 30 day, so I had to require a new one, which meant paying the fee again. Money thrown out of the window, in plain English.

Then I was eligible to hand in my request again. There were a few extra requirements still, stupid and illogical ones, but at least my request was not rejected this time. I was told I'm going to be notified when the ID is ready and indeed, I got a text from them after two days. Excellent I would say, if it wouldn't have had the difficulties with the address.

After I got my ID, had to request the land registry office to modify my address and issue the right documents, to avoid further complications. That costed me another 15€. Money thrown out of the window because the land registry office decided to do stupid things when the building was built and registered.

This was just one case in which I had to face difficulties. There are other ongoing ones, in which I'm waiting for my ticket to be dealt with for 4 weeks now, but that's an exchange and not based in my country.

The Good

Most likely I'm the only one on the planet, who doesn't have Netflix and all the fancy movie channels, but I'm fine with it as have very little time to watch TV. However, yesterday I finally decided to upgrade my subscription and add an extra option of movie channels. It's not Netflix, but will do for now and perfect from price/value perspective.

I activated the extra option online at 9:30 am, got an email with the confirmation link right away and confirmed the order. Then I was wondering how long it would take for the extra option to be activated. I checked at 6pm, but there was still not active, so I submitted an online ticket at about 6:40pm. I thought they would call me in the morning and we get the thing sorted. Oh boy! Was I wrong? I was! Big time!

I got an email with my ticket number and the usual text that comes in these cases, letting me know they are looking into it as soon as possible. Fine! It's just that I got a call after 10 minutes from support, asking me to detail the problem, which I did. After a few checks, it became obvious we can't solve it over the phone, so the customer support lady told me she can send the team on call between 7pm and 10pm, right away. Imagine my surprise, but I said no as had other plans for the evening, so we agreed on an appointment in the morning, between 8am and 11am.

20240321_114534a.jpg

Needless to say, at 8am I was ready. Then I got a call at 8:33am from the tech guy, asking if he can come and he was at my door in 10 minutes. It took him 10 minutes to fix the problem.

The Difference

After the guy left, I couldn't stop thinking how lucky I am with this service provider, which is also my internet provider. As you can see, whatever problem I have, it gets fixed in the shortest time, meaning an hour or so. Look around on Hive, how many are complaining of crap services at exorbitant prices.

20240315_115306a.jpg

I was also thinking how the overpaid government employees, sitting in cozy offices are abusing their power and neglecting their duties. There's no alternative to what they do, there's no competition, complaints are just as neglected as official document requests, so your only option is to wait. Patiently if you can and if you can't, you can pull your hair but the end result is just the same, as you won't get your documents sooner.

We're in 2024, everything is digitized, no one should wait 4 weeks for a single paper.

Bureaucratism is a disease that has no cure. On the contrary...it mutates and becomes more resistant. It is a problem that has no borders, no ideology, no political system. In some places it is more serious than in others, but somehow it affects us all.

On the other hand I'm glad you enjoy services that do work and make your life easier.

Best of luck with all your other pending issues.

Happy weekend. 🤗

Thank you @mdrguez for the nice words, I hope I can sort things out because it's really frustrating, when you don't have anywhere you can turn. Have a blessed weekend my friend! 🤗

When things don't flow because of meaningless obstacles and bad work, it's really frustrating. There's nothing left to do but calm down and wait, it's not up to you, but eventually everything works out. 🤗

Going through The Bad: Like you, I was also irritated and confused as to why all these government offices work at a snail's pace. 😅
Then knowing The Good: The first thing that came to my mind was that you are not alone on this planet, I too did not have Netflix this entire month. But now I will have to renew my subscription because I don't watch TV so I need some entertainment.
It is really a matter of praise that private service providers do their jobs far better than government officials. It is hoped that these government offices will also become digital soon. Although it is very unlikely, but let's be positive, at least it will give us hope that tomorrow will be better. 😊🙏

I think snail's pace is quite right to describe what they do. Annoying is an understatement.

As about the good, I'm really lucky to have an extremely good quality internet and cable and service is as fast as I described. But the best thing is the price, it's dirt cheap, compared to other countries.

Enjoy your Netflix, I still don't have it 🤣

How cheap your internet is? Asking because as far as I know the cheapest internet is here. it costs us less than 10$ per month for unlimited use.😁

I also have unlimited use for $8.6, but price alone means nothing. You have to consider speed as well and quality of the service too.

It's almost equal.😅 Btw, that was the report of my wifi. The internet download speed on my phone is twice as fast at 96.7 mbps. I just checked!

And the service is such that in the last 4 years I have faced problems only 3-4 times and except once, every time their agent responded on the same day.
So we can assume that both of us are getting amazing internet service that too at a very cheap price.😊✌️

I can't even recall when was the last time I had to call service, but it was more than 10 years ago for sure.

I agree with that and I'm glad we're in this situation.

Seems like you're dealing with some bureauCraziness as I like to call it, and have been dealing with it for a little while waiting on others just like I am at the moment.

I often wonder how do these people sit there being relaxed and not see what all these mistakes cause in terms of stress lol. I really believe I lost 10 years of my life dealing with stuff like this, waiting on the other side to just do their job rather than point fingers at me or postpone..

You probably know what I mean typing this..

It's good to see you also find joy in flowers lol, I use them a lot for my content as they are a good reminder that besides this stuff going wrong or frustrating there are a lot of things going well and to be grateful for..

Have a lovely weekend and I hope soon all your documents will be up to date again.

Imagine if they would have to go through this themselves each day. But they don't care.

Nature is always relaxing and since I joined Hive six years ago, I learnt to pay attention to little things and try to use them to make me feel better. It's the only way, otherwise I would go crazy.

Thanks for the comment and have a nice weekend.

Flowers are very pretty and I think they are relaxing after all. Look at them, I mean. No, no and no. No one should have to wait all that time for a piece of paper. It seems humanity will never get rid of bureaucratism and inept people.
Erikah, time... a philosophical question. I'm glad you are well and I send you a big hug.

A big hug to you too my dear friend and I hope things are working better at your end, although ... Cuba 🤦‍♀ Let's hope there will be some improvement regarding these services soon.

Have a nice weekend and Happy Easter, if you celebrating it. 🐰🥚

Man, I feel like one of those people being messed around by the government, but eh... It do be like that. At least I get the free for now. But definitely people in the government should hurry themselves up and you know... pull themselves together in the name of service, not free foods every two hours called "snacks"

I would put them through of what we're going through, so they can understand what it means to not do their jobs properly.

The bad...I just pray the government sector could at least embrace the fact that we are in a disgitalize world, at least it will make them work faster and stop holding peoples documents unnecessary. It's not funny.

I could trade stories with you. I went without internet for a month last summer due to a running comedy of broken service promises and I ran a food business through the disaster of COVID which was a continual mess of changing and unclear but none the less super agressively enforced regulations. But instead I will enjoy your lovely photos and be happy for you being mostly on the other side of these two issues 🙂

Sad to know you had your problems too. I was hoping I'm the only one.

The truth is, internet companies in big cities can't afford to treat clients badly as there's competition and they lose. But government services have no competition. Thus they do what they want.

@erikah

I want to say something in honor of you. It may be my fault or yours it doesn't matter I took the blame on my own shoulders the only problem is that you took a little personal thing anyway I apologize to you you are not so cruel I try to share every post as a unit post I share with you Swearing is another big mistake of mine and I humbly apologize to you that you should not have taken my matter so personally then I could have controlled my anger. Keep sharing my unique posts on online platforms and take them to your work. Thank you, I hope you will be polite to my request and let me be as I am, because if someone has done wrong to someone, then he should forgive the wrongdoer. I hope you will also forgive me. I am writing these please only for you, I hope you will support me in the future days, so don't harbor any jealousy or anger inside me, I finally apologize to you again for all my mistakes, you must answer me for this, you will forgive me. did please sir 🥺.

Wow, how stressful it must have been for you to have to make so many moves and reissue several applications just because of a single detail, the address.

Although really the problem was not so much the address detail, but all the delay and delay that was generated, having to throw money out the window as you say.

But I am glad that in spite of everything you have already renewed your identity card.

On the other hand, sometimes it's good that you decided to take some time out of your day to watch some TV and it's a relief that the problem has been solved efficiently.

It would be only fair considering all the time it took you to sort out the address problem for your ID renewal application.

It's been 3 months now, for me it was a short time, but on a personal level these 3 months have helped me to recover my physical condition, so I have taken advantage of these 3 months in terms of physical activity to the maximum.

Thanks for taking the time to share your experience with us. Best regards Erikah.
