Art & Recycling

Every artists gets motivated in a different way. Sometimes an idea can come from just looking at another artwork. I'm not an artist, but got many ideas just by looking at these artworks and even though I've never tried to create fiver or textile art, doesn't mean I won't. I have a few plans in my mind and hoping to be able to start creating as soon as I finish some of my unfinished projects.

These blog posts will serve as motivation in case I need some and I hope it can help you too.

Let's look at what the fiber artists exhibited for us.

Be Yourself The Seventh

Without knowing any details about how this one was created, I think it's felt and drawing. I see a woman's silhouette and the felt serves as some kind of curtain. But then again, this is just what I read, by looking at the artwork.

The title seemed strange, or did not say anything to me, to be more precise, but gave me the impression that it could be reference to a biblical scene or event. So I ran a search and a poem came up, by Attila József, that has this line repeatedly.

You

The artist had two works at this exhibition. I'm not sure if these two are a series, but they are definitely connected.

Sacrificial Vessel

This was a very interesting piece, but again, lack of space takes away from the value as no matter what I do, the other two artworks are still in the photo.

I suppose the red thread symbolizes blood. In any case, it's a brilliant idea in my opinion.

Alienation

Even though this was a very dark piece and gave a depressing impression, I found it very interesting and valuable as well. It's like a nude, covered with black lace like something. Now imagine painting the nude first, then cover it with fiber in a way to till preserve it.

From Night To Day

This is a very interesting woven wall fabric. What is interesting here is that it was not made using fiber or thread, but fabric straps, that's why it's not so fine as other woven fabrics and the pattern is a bit rough. Even though I would not hang it on my wall, I liked this one a lot.

Urban Rhythm

I had many favorites at this exhibition, but there's always another one I like and there's always room for more. Good thing these were not for sale. Imagine the headache that comes with choosing one.

This piece may look scary to you, but I find it absolutely amazing. It takes just a few pieces of fabric and fiber and a lot of imagination and planning.

I Am Who I Am

Looking back of the photos I uploaded here, look at the variety in style. Apart from the first two, which seems to be connected, there's no connection or similarities between the rest of the works. It's impressive what the human mind is capable of creating.

Looking at the artworks, you don't need expensive supplies as most of them can be created using recycled materials, like fabrics and fibers. It's a win win.

These are all cool! It's so amazing how one can come up with lots of ideas in making and showing art to the world. My favorite would be Urban Rhythm and the one above it, it's chaotic but I see it~

Indeed, the idea counts a lot and these artists are not lacking. Those two you chose are very cool, so we agree on those.

These are fabulous. I've always been intrigued by how people get such variety with felting and weaving, I've never had the courage to try it out myself. The alienation one is my favourite - funny, I also at first saw a nude just like you and the lacy spiderwebby effect is great, it gives it so much depth.

Dear Emma, sorry for the late reply.
The variety you can create using fabric, fiber and felt is mind blowing. I've never had the courage to try it out either but these exhibitions are very motivating, so who knows, maybe I will. I hope you will too :) Let's do it 😉

That is a good one for sure 👌 👍
