Art - From Original To Reinterpretation

With all the events going on this month, I forgot that I need to post the remaining photos I took at the temporary art exhibition hosted by the Făgăraș Citadel. If you missed the first part of my art journey at the Făgăraș Citadel, you can check it out here.

Monkey Parade .jpg

The artist's name is Nicolae Sabin Dobrea, he is an engineer by profession and an amateur painter. He did not commit himself to a certain style, so his works are various in style.

Portrait Of Picasso

When i saw this artwork, the first thing that came to my mind was Picasso, then I saw the title, which says Portrait Of Picasso and said to myself, spot on! I still regret not being able to visit the Picasso Museum in Paris years ago. I was at the entrance and found out it was under renovation. The organizers forgot to update the website and I spent half a day getting there. Maybe next time.

The Ghost From The Lamp

This was a bit confusing at first, as the rainbow colors can mean many things and the person in the painting looked like a mayor with the color band across his suit, holding a microphone, but it's nothing like that, isn't it? Would be curious to know what Picasso would think of these artworks :)

20230910_155957a.jpg

The castle was the perfect place for an art gallery like this, given the interesting architecture.

Seascape

20230910_160024a.jpg

Chrysanthemum

It was pretty difficult to take decent photos as the artworks were hung in a chaotic way, nothing aligned with anything, so I had to choose. In this case I chose to align the top of the frame, which I did perfectly (rare occasion), but the pipe above it looks awful.

Anyway, the painting is a nice floral still life you see from painter from the 19th century, or even the 20th century. This however was created in 2022.

Autumn scene that pretty soon is going to become reality in Europe as the nice, hot summer is over.

A gondolier

20230910_160041a.jpg

Dancing In The Rain

This theme is a classical one, many painters choose to put it on canvas, maybe in a different way, but the idea is still the same. Most likely this painting has found a new owner and a new home, which is good news for the painter.

20230910_160046a.jpg

Little Girl With A Puppy

This painting is far from my taste, but most likely some of you will like it.

20230910_160051a.jpg

Waiting For Santa Claus

I think we all were this little boy once, looking out the window, waiting for Santa Claus.

20230910_160055a.jpg

Motherhood

20230910_160103a.jpg

A Musketeer (Self-portrait)

I've never seen anyone self-portraying themselves in another era. This is kind of funny as the artist is still alive, so he most likely is not wearing such clothes, unless there's a carnival.

The Girl With a String of Pearls (Vermeer Reinterpretation)

This painting made me smile and also made me nostalgic. I wonder how many of you understand what the artist meant, without reading my explanation. Put your hands up!

The painter refers to the famous painting of Vermeer, called Girl with a Pearl Earring.

This is a small, but very famous painting. I've seen it in the Mauritshuis, in The Hague. Unfortunately these museums don't allow photographing for the obvious reasons. There's a movie about it as well, the life of Vermeer, which made me cry when I saw it. The movie was filmed in Delft (a lovely city by the way) and it was nice to see those places I visited, again. Maybe it's time to rewatch it and visit Delft again 😄.

Back to the painting. in my previous post about this exhibition, I posted a similar artwork, which was also a reinterpretation of another painting. This one is a bit different, as it's about a pearl necklace, not earring and look nothing like the original, not even the clothes, but I like the idea.

20230910_160116(0)a.jpg

Lady In Green

What I liked about this painting is the colors, there's a harmony regarding the colors and for me, that matters a lot.

20230910_160119a.jpg

Lady In Blue

These two paintings are connected. However, I don't find that harmony in the second painting and would choose the first one, if I had to. The face of the lady in green is also a plus. Feel free to let me know which one you would choose, green or blue lady? This is a fun game :)

20230910_160124a.jpg

Little Girl With A Straw Hat

Both, the paining and the frame makes you believe the artist is from the 19th, or the 20th century, but this is also a recent painting. Looks like the little lady has found a new home as the painting was reserved.

20230910_160129a.jpg

The Courtesan

For those of you who don't know the term:

Courtesan, in modern usage, is a euphemism for a kept mistress or prostitute, particularly one with wealthy, powerful, or influential clients. The term historically referred to a courtier, a person who attended the court of a monarch or other powerful person. source

This reminds me of the movie, Dangerous Beauty. Maybe it's time to rewatch this too, as it's a good one, you can learn a lot about those times.

20230910_160134a.jpg

There was a money box, most likely for the artist, but what you see there, the green bill is the smallest paper note, so people were not so generous.

20230910_160204a.jpg

Artemis (Diana) - Goddess Of The Hunt

20230910_160212a.jpg

This lady did not want to reveal her identity, but knowing the artist made a self-portrait, portraying himself as a musketeer, I wouldn't be surprised if this lady would be connected to him in some way.

20230910_160220a.jpg

La Bella Simonetta (by Boticelli)

This is another interpretation of a famous painting by the famous Italian painter, Sandro Botticelli, one of my favorites.

Simonetta_Vespuci_as_a_Nymph_by_Sandro_Botticelli_-_Städel_-_Frankfurt_am_Main_-_Germany_2017.jpg
Portrait of a Woman by the workshop of Sandro Botticelli, early-mid 1480s

Simonetta Vespucci (née Cattaneo; 1453 – 26 April 1476), nicknamed la bella Simonetta, was an Italian noblewoman from Genoa, the wife of Marco Vespucci of Florence and the cousin-in-law of Amerigo Vespucci. She was known as the greatest beauty of her age in Italy, and was allegedly the model for many paintings by Sandro Botticelli, Piero di Cosimo, and other Florentine painters. source

In this case, maybe the face looks a bit similar, but that is all.

20230910_160228a.jpg

Dragoș

The last 3 paintings were very different in stile. I suppose these people are the family members of the artist, but have no proof for that. Dragoș must be his son?

20230910_160234a.jpg

Adina

The wife?

20230910_160240a.jpg

Bianca

The daughter?

20230910_160158a.jpg

All in all it was an interesting exhibition. Many of the paintings were not for me, but there were a few I liked. I specially liked these reinterpretations of famous artists.

Let me know what you think. Have you been able to find something you like? Would you buy any of the paintings?

You did a nice job to have capture the images despite them not being in a good position to snap. This is really nice exhibition. The images are colorful.

This is a problem you face, everywhere you go. Maybe except the big galleries like the Louvre, but photographing is not allowed there, so problem solved.

How do you cope and manage to take pictures of the nature you used to post? It won't have been easy for you to do.

These are amazing exhibitions, most of the pictures were not in for you yet you took them still, that was really thoughtful of you, all the images are amazing and I got so many images to my taste, one of which is the painting of that young lady dancing in the rain.

Lol, trust me, I know exactly what you mean. Many paintings and artworks are so expensive that we don't have to choose anymore 😂

Wow! It's pretty difficult trying to pick a favourite because most of the paintings are attractive for different reasons.
A gondolier appeals to me and I can remember that the first time I encountered the word "gondolier" was in James Hadley Chase's Mission To Venice. However, I think the painting I prefer most is the Portrait of Picasso.
Thank you for sharing these beautiful pictures, @erikah.

Well, it it's about Venice, then gondolier can't be missing.

Interesting choice with the Portrait of Picasso 🙂

A very varied sample of her interpretation of different works, I liked the one about the young woman from La Perla, her self-portrait in period clothing amuses me, it cannot be denied that her way of wanting to immortalize herself with her art is original, but I think that Many people did not like it because of the low collection.

I suppose it's due to translation, but the artist is a man :)

He sure had some interesting pieces.
