Confessions Of A Notebook Addict

(Edited)

For your information, I specifically scrolled back, to see when was the challenge covering this topic announced by @mipiano and it was in February, here. Am I late? Naah, I am not. There's a February in each year, so ... 😆 Ok, jokes aside, I've been dragging this for so long, that it's time for me to show you my amazing, beautiful, awesome, marvelous, beautiful ... (thinking ... thinking...) are there more words to describe my collection? 🤣

Ok, let's get serious, shall we?

Confessions Of A Notebook Addict.png

Before you say anything, let me admit I'm an addict. We're living in a digital era, but I'm addicted to paper in general, notebooks and handwriting. You're going to see it for yourself and figure it out, but I wanted to admit it first, before you do.

20260702_164408a.JPG

This is a part of my collection. There's another set of notebooks you're going to see later in this post. How many are in this pile? Don't ask me as I have no clue and I'm afraid to count them 😂 so let's see what is in here exactly.

20260702_164619.jpg20260702_164628.jpg

This is a heavy, A4 size notebook with 200 pages and although the paper is very good quality, the lines are too invasive and when I look at the writing, mostly see the lines and it's really disturbing, not the experience I want. I got this a long time ago, it was a gift, when I was still at the university and as I never throw away good paper, it is just sitting in my drawer, waiting for something to happen.

20260702_164644.jpg20260702_164717.jpg

This is also an A4 size notebook, with the sheets ready, if you want them in a folder. The paper quality is really good, so I could not leave it in the store, had to buy it.

20260702_164802a.JPG

Then comes another set of 8 A4 size notebooks.

20260702_164816.jpg

I'm not a biker but the designer of this cover knew what they were doing for sure as I wanted a copy for myself.

20260702_164835.jpg20260702_164900.jpg

Same story here, but this is a bit more interesting. They sure know how to make these supplies attractive, not just for kids, but for adults too.

20260702_164935.jpg

Two more notebooks, checkered and lined.

20260702_165004.jpg20260702_165008.jpg

This was not an emotional buy as I my preference is clean pages, not checkered or lined. It helps me a lot to be able to arrange the text as I want and what better way then to have a totally clean sheet. Unfortunately these vellum notebooks are not very popular, I suppose it's harder to write on them, especially at a young age.

20260702_165020.jpg20260702_165035.jpg20260702_165025.jpg

If you look at the cover of the notebook above, most likely you can guess why I bought it. I trust you you're smart enough to figure it out 😆 I mean, how can you leave without buying it, right? At this point I have to tag @nanixxx, not because she loves notebooks (maybe she does, but I have no knowledge on that), but because she's the only biker I know on Hive and maybe she can see herself on the cover 🤷‍♀.

20260702_165051.jpg20260702_165055.jpg20260702_165111.jpg

The last two of this lot are these two. Nothing special here, but the quality of paper was really good and price/quality ratio as well.

20260702_165136.jpg20260702_165143.jpg

These one are not fancy, but are vintage (in my book anyway) as they are from my school years and that was not yesterday 😂.

20260702_165208.jpg

This is where things change a little. These two notebooks are also very old, were both spiral notebooks with metal spiral, but at some point, years ago I thought it's time to personalize them so to speak. So I removed the metal spiral, used a thread instead.

20260702_165218.jpg

It was a challenge as I've never done this or seen it how it's done, so it was fun.

20260702_165227.jpg

The pages here are a bit wavy, must have been exposed to humidity at some point in its life, but that's not a problem for me, on the contrary, it's a plus when it comes to old paper.

20260702_165301.jpg

This had a really boring cover, so what I did was glue a page of a magazine on it, to make it unique.

20260702_165256.jpg

Looks awful as the applied page is not the size needed to fully cover it, but it makes unique 😆 I've been doing this in school and everyone was envious as I had the coolest notebooks in every class.

20260702_165344.jpg20260702_165349.jpg20260702_165359.jpg

These are not my favorite, for several reasons, like I don't like that you have to tear off the sheets, the quality is not what I prefer, on the last one the lines are so close to each other that writing is hard, so they are just sitting in my drawer.

20260702_165423.jpg20260702_165430.jpg

This is a drawing book, that I bought when I joined Hive in 2018 and started practicing drawing. This one is empty because I had another two, that I used back then and now I have better quality paper, so most likely I'm going to donate this to the orphan kids before Christmas as I'm making a pack or two each year for them. I like the design of the cover though.

20260702_165520.jpg20260702_165528.jpg

These are A5 size notebooks, perfect for daily notes, but not more. However, again, marketing and good design are always winning 😆

20260702_165552.jpg20260702_165603.jpg

Same story here.

20260702_165623.jpg

20260702_165637.jpg

20260702_165702.jpg20260702_165710.jpg

How can you resist such a cover? 😂

20260702_165749.jpg20260702_165807.jpg

These are hardcover, spiral, A5 size checkered notebooks and I bought them as they were on sale. 1euro for this quality is dirt cheap and I'm thinking of selling them for a bit of profit.

20260702_165835.jpg20260702_165844.jpg20260702_165839.jpg

This is a paperback, nothing fancy, for notes.

20260702_170047.jpg20260702_170055.jpg

And this is where the fun begins. I loooooooooooooooove these notebooks, the cover and the paper as well. This one was calling my name as it's my favorite color, the cover is excellent quality, cushioned as well and the paper is ecru, plus thick enough, as I like it. It is not dated either, which is a huge plus.

20260702_170140.jpg20260702_170203.jpg
20260702_170258.jpg20260702_170309.jpg

These two are also the same category and waiting for me to use them.

20260702_170628.jpg20260702_170700.jpg20260702_170642.jpg

😆 Need I say more here? I mean how can you not buy it? It has a pencil as well, but that's not the main point here. This has a special story and I think I posted about it last year or so. It was on sale at Lidl and had it in my hand, thought about buying it and didn't. Then went back for it the next day as I could not leave it there. Imagine, this was the last copy and lucky me, I was able to find it the next day.

20260702_170530.jpg20260702_170536.jpg

These two were on sale earlier this year, so I took advantage as the good thing is, none of them is dated, you can use them anytime you want as you're not tied to a specific year.

20260702_170555.jpg20260702_170602.jpg

This was bought for a specific project, that I'm going to post about, if it's ready. I wanted ecru paper, to look vintage, this fits the criteria well and the cover is matching the paper too, but it wasn't cheap.

20260702_165913.jpg20260702_165918.jpg

This is a special one, unique as well as I'm the only one owning a copy. It was made by me as I could not find a vellum notebook of this size, so I took approximately 100 pages of A4 paper, went to the copy shop and told the guy to make me a notebook, so here it is 😆

20260703_145137.jpg

These are my drawing books, I'm using them for practice, or rather learning drawing as I have no talent, so I need to learn everything.

20260702_170441.jpg

This is what I do when I'm trying to disconnect my brain 🤣

20260703_145406.jpg

... aaaand more notebooks, very good quality, but I guess you got the idea by now.

I'm not going to post the ones with personal noted, but I think there are like four.

Now you understand why I didn't want to post about my collection, of why I have been postponing it. Trying to think back of the entries and I think @edje beats me as number of notebooks, and @palomap3, but I'm not sure. I'll let them be the judge of that.

If you're still here and reading, you're an idiot 🤣 Ok, I mean no offense or disrespect, this is a joke, but I'll end this post here as it's already a novel.

Yeah, I told you i'm addicted, but no worries as these will be used soon and what's more important, I'm officially banned from buying any notebooks. I have banned myself!

Really? Or are you going to buy more?? Are you sure? Because I love so many of them, especially the vintage ones and the ones with flowers, the ones with padded covers… I love so many of them and I’d feel too bad to use them, they’re gorgeous!! It’s a brilliant collection. It doesn’t make you an addict… let’s just say you’re a fan of notebooks and notepads, there’s nothing wrong with that.😁

Welcome to the club! I though I'm the only crazy one feeling like this 😆 It's called respect I think. Respect towards the paper/notebook. I have this habit of always writing really nicely at the beginning and promising myself that I'll keep up the nice handwriting, then on page 10 you are wondering if it was me writing, or a pig 🤣 Ok, that was a joke, but when you're in a meeting, or at a conference, there's no time for nice writing.

It doesn’t make you an addict… let’s just say you’re a fan of notebooks and notepads, there’s nothing wrong with that.😁

Awww, You're really king and I love it! That's it! I'm a fan, or an enthusiast, not an addict 😎😄

It’s true, it’s because of the covers and the pages, and I’m the same, I start off writing neatly and then… I’m a right mess. What’s more, they look lovely on display in a bookcase; some of the covers are… so pretty!😍

Yes! Ez csúcs!!! 😁

Micsoda gyűjtemény, de tényleg!! 😯

Hahahha, you have banned yourself from buying more notebooks!😂 I understand now why... 😂 But you are not banned from this community, just the opposite! From now on, I will be waiting for your contribution for each monthly theme! Even if they have to arrive a few months later 😜

Nayon szépen köszönöm 💚

Now you know why I am so late with this post and didn't want to post it at all 😆

But you are not banned from this community, just the opposite! From now on, I will be waiting for your contribution for each monthly theme! Even if they have to arrive a few months later 😜

Oh God! Now I'm in trouble, deep, deep trouble, to put it elegantly 🤣🙊

I'm going to start collecting bench photos, I can promise you that and the rest ... will see. I was laughing about the book challenge as I'd need to photograph the whole house as my collection is more than 600 books 😂

😂 Well, it's perhaps not the most common type of thing to collect, but I found it lovely to look 😍📒📚 at and it brightened my day today!... Thank you so much for sharing this, @erikah friend!

I'm glad you liked it, it was a lot of fun to write about it, but I'm also aware of the fact that I look like a crazy woman. Not that I care though 😂

Have a nice weekend my dear friend! 🥂

Good morning, Erikah. I pick my poison—being a fool who made it to the end. Hahaha… Joke. 🤣

Well, I just love your notebooks, especially the ones about bikes. Life is better on Bike; that notebook is absolutely right. (Cycling in heels haha, that girl’s so exotic ;))
Thank you for mentioning me—my first bike was red, that’s where I carry Chanel (my dog) and my morning coffee… pure happiness. The one that says "Pick your poison" and the one with the sketches of many little houses also really caught my attention.
I think it’s a great way to switch off the brain.
(🚴‍♀)

Cheers!

Hello @nanixxx and sorry for the tag, but it was appropriate, once I was thinking of you 😆 I wish I could send you the bike ones, but the shipping would cost me 100x the value of the notebooks.

Have a nice day and try to resist.

Ok... you are right, it is weird to have THAT many notebooks you haven't written in. 😂

If you had that many that you had filled up along the way, THAT would not be weird.

It's funny the things we choose to hoard along the way, even if we are not general hoarders. I like notebooks too. I have a few I acquired myself and a few that were given to me. I am not so tempted to buy more knowing what is already here, but sometimes I find new ones in a local thrift shop and if they have leather or soft leather-feel covers, I am always tempted.

I did get back to using them more in the last couple of years as I like writing, even if sometimes I can't read some of what I wrote later....LOL !!!! It's fun!

I have just as many used ones, but God save you from me posting everything I have 😂

I am not so tempted to buy more knowing what is already here, but sometimes I find new ones in a local thrift shop and if they have leather or soft leather-feel covers, I am always tempted.

See? I knew you're team NOTEBOOK 😆 Well, some are hard to resist, so I totally understand you.

The truth is, these are not just for fun as I'm studying constantly and helps me write down what I'm actually studying, so they will be used shortly.

I like writing, even if sometimes I can't read some of what I wrote later....LOL !!!! It's fun!

Oh God! 🤣 You remind me of myself, although I'm trying hard to keep my handwriting readable. During my university years my handwriting got worse as there was no time to focus on how it looks, we were happy to be able to write down what was important, but it's ok.

Writing something down, especially when there is a lot of info on whatever I am working on/researching, always helps me retain more so I do understand that.

In recent years I realized that journals or notebooks with spiral binding were the ones that I gravitated toward. I think it goes back to school. Every class needed spiral notebooks, folders, binders, pens, pencils, etc.

So, I guess that training is ingrained in how I work today. I have so many journals that are book bound and those stay blank. The ones that have a spiral binding are the ones that get used most for work.

We all have our preferences and have to go with what works better for us. The sooner you recognize that, the better.

Spiral is not my first choice as writing in them is a bit difficult, but I'm glad it works for you. I got used to individual paper sheets during University and masters as it was easier to just grab a bunch of paper, write on them and then put them in the appropriate folders. Way easier than carrying a bunch of notebooks each day.

That makes sense. What happens to me with loose sheets of paper is that they get shuffled around and then I wind up missing one page or find different projects mixed together. I noticed that you were very diligent in how you used loose paper. You put them in their appropriate folders. And I think that has been the crucial step I have been missing.

What a beautiful notebook collection. I really enjoyed the different styles and designs. I always feel notebooks are more than just a bundle of papers, they become a place for thought, memories and creativity ☺️☺️☺️

Now that's a BIG collection, and it also became a very LONG post lol... Some have the cover pretty nice, it's even a pity to use them! Like the vintage vibes with the bike, pretty cool... And then the woman in the water 🤣

I also like paper and written stuff, I don't like digital notes, but my writing is absolutely crap so it's always challenging

Now that's a BIG collection, and it also became a very LONG post lol

Which is why I didn't want to post about it, and dragged it for so long 😆 Can you imagine how much time it took to take them out, photograph them one by one and then write the post? 😂

And then the woman in the water 🤣

Woman in the water, huh? 😆

I also like paper and written stuff, I don't like digital notes, but my writing is absolutely crap so it's always challenging

We are alike in this regard too it seems 😎 I mean I make digital notes as well, but my visual memory is working better with handwritten notes, I have to admit that.

Hahah yeah it was long to read (and I'm a quick reader) wonder write it and photo everything 🤣

I also find better to grab it, change pages, search what I need, it's better for me than scroll over notes on phone... I admit I've started making one like some months ago, writing down all fairs and events month by months, impossible to remember them all and I don't want that in phone, in case in breaks etc..

Wow. If the owner hasn't counted them, I won't either, but yes, I confirm that you're as addicted to notebooks as I am. 🤣

I liked the one with the flower cover, although my favourites have been these:

I should count them, but honestly, I'm a bit afraid of knowing the number 😆 So I'll just say you and edje beat me 😎

Regarding the two you picked, now you understand why I bought them 🤣

Who has more Notebooks, you or I, I can't really tell, but I see more of them in your post then in mine (just checked and kinda counted - you above 20, mine below 20 - or something like that). But but but, this isn't a race towards maximum numbers 😉 Since my post, I gained a few notebooks. Didn't buy them. Usually receive them. Was at several events - mostly business-related, IT conference, AI meetup, AI workshop and whatnot, and received more than a few new notebooks. But still, not a race to the highest numbers 😆

I do very much LOVE your personalised notebooks! Replacing the metal spirals with (thin) threads is not only making the notebook more appealing to look at, but also easier to stack them. Perfect personalisation! The poster cover, perfect as well. I think I may have done similar when I was young, a kid, and/or early teenager. Not to sure anymore. I know, I didn't 'play' the personalisation 'game' since school, otherwise I would remember (perhaps I am lying, perhaps my memory is deteriorating more than I want to admit).

The bickers notebooks are super nice! The abstract ones I like, but also the one with the girl trying to bike of the cover. The background, the setting, reminded me (within a split second) of our city, 'Utrecht' located more or less in the middle of 'my' country.

I think you kept the best notebooks to the end of your post. I really like the more minimalist covers. The cork one, super cool! The soft-covered ones, the one-coloured, the more luxury-covered ones, are great to have in the collection, to store them on shelves and on benches/tables and whatnot, in sight of the human eye. Not saying the bickers notebooks, and some of the less minimalistic covered ones need to go behind doors for storage; Some of those should be in eyesight as well 😉

Last but not least: Never Ever too late to enter any collection you - we - have. The monthly themes are simple suggestions. At least, that is what the founder of this collection community told me more than once. I think I am 'behind' on a few topics as well. Somehow, I feel I shall touch all those topics, but in reality, this may take years before I execute on that notion.

Looking fwd to your next collection 🙏

But still, not a race to the highest numbers 😆

No one said it's a race, I was just hoping there's someone with a bigger collection, so I don't look like the most addicted notebook collector here 😂

The bickers notebooks are super nice! The abstract ones I like, but also the one with the girl trying to bike of the cover. The background, the setting, reminded me (within a split second) of our city, 'Utrecht' located more or less in the middle of 'my' country.

When I saw that specific notebook in the shop, it reminded me of my trip to Amsterdam and Utrecht as well. I still remember that trip and had to buy the notebook 😎

And you're right, it seems like we think alike. Save the best for last.

The cork one, super cool! The soft-covered ones, the one-coloured, the more luxury-covered ones, are great to have in the collection

These are real treasures and I don't know what I'm going to use them for, as I value them too much. I'm wondering if you feel the same 😄

Thank you for the nice comment @edje, I'm going to try and show more collections in the upcoming future.

A Race: I did introduce it ; It is all on me myself and I 😆

Those notebooks you value so much; Use them for display only, orrrrr dont fill the pages itself, but use them to store a collection of precious photos, articles and whatnot. Just put them in between the pages, not glued to the paper. Another possibility is - but may harm the paper a bit - to create 2D dried flowers, ie as some form of press; Put the real deal in, press, and leave it there until dry. Uhm, maybe with some plastic this works, but then again, perhaps it isn't the best idea for use; My mind went a bit nuts 😆
