Gooseberry Pie In Air Fryer
The whole thing started when my dad sent me around 3kg of gooseberries from the garden.

He knew what he was doing and this lovely act of kindness is not exactly what it seems.
If you've ever cleaned gooseberries, you know it's not fun. Actually, if you want o punish someone, give them 5kg of gooseberries to clean and they will curse you for the rest of your life. So once the gooseberries were handed over to me, that heavy pack became my problem. I worked for two afternoons, to be able to clean them. It's not an activity I wanted to do, but on the other hand, when you get fresh, organic fruits for free, you have to be grateful, especially these days, when everything is so expensive.
At first I had no clue what to do with them as jam we have for 5 years at least and no one is eating jams, so I thought why not ask AI for some suggestions and that's exactly what I did. Among a lot of other suggestions, Mr. AI said I could freeze them the smart way and use them later.
The majority of the fruits landed in the freezer, but the method of freezing is new to me. I mean I knew about it, but have never done it. In order to get the fruits freeze individually instead of a big block, I had to spread them on a tray and freeze them like that first, after which pack them together in a freezing bag. My freezer is not big, so it took some time to freeze the whole quantity, but it's done. I saved some though, as wanted to make a gooseberry pie, which is the subject of my post today.
Most likely it's my first gooseberry pie, I can't remember if I've made one before. It is my first in the air fryer, but definitely not the last one. I love it and am going to make another one very soon.
My old pie recipe is good, but this time I needed one for the air fryer and after a quick search, I decided to give this one a try. It's really simple, with just a few ingredients and honestly, just prefect.
Ingredients I used:
- 150g all purpose flour,
- 150g sugar,
- 2 eggs,
- 0.5dl water,
- 0.5 tsp baking powder,
- 200g gooseberry.
The original recipe as without fruits and used gem after it was done, which is a good option when you don't have fresh fruits, but I wanted to use my gooseberries.
All you have to do is mix the ingredients well, with a mixer.
Lucky me, the author of the recipe was honest and said she didn't use any grease, but she said she should have, as it was difficult to remove the pie from the silicon tray, which is why I sprayed the tray before pouring the mix into it and it was the best decision.
Then I spread the gooseberries on top of the mix and was ready to go into the air fryer.
The recipe says 26 minutes on 200C and check it after 20 minutes. I was a bit skeptical about the time as air fryers can differ, but it is enough and even perfect.
This is what I got after 26 minutes. The top was golden brown, as I like it and it was done.
This is the bottom of it and you can see it has a nice golden brown crust. It's not burnt and definitely not stuck to the tray.
Something I rarely do, this time I sprinkled some powdered sugar on top of it. Usually I chop the sugar quantity down from the start and was thinking of doing it here too, but the truth is, gooseberries are very sour, so I used the quantity suggested by the recipe and used powdered sugar on top as well. It looks better and in this case it is needed I think. If the fruit would have been a sweet one, like apricot or strawberry or nectarine, then the powdered sugar would not make it on top of the pie for sure.
And voilà!
I was pleasantly surprised to find out, it is really good. It is different from what you get in the electric oven, and I dare to say it's better. I like this one better and can't wait to bake it again.
The beauty of it is that you can use any type of fruit, just make sure to adjust the sugar accordingly.

Piszkeeeeeeee 😲🤤
Actually, just a few moments ago, while I was washing the dishes and seeing my son's air fryer that he brought home, I was thinking what the heck we can prepare in it 😆. So I see, cakes as well!
Piszkeeeeeeee? Inkább egres 🤣
You can prepare a bunch of things in it and now with this heat, the air fryer is perfect and it doesn't burn down the kitchen, doesn't make it hotter. I love it! Have a few recipes here already, specially for the air fryer 😉
🤣🤣🤣
-Bacon elfogyott?
-Szalonna, fiam! Szalonna!
😂
I have never had/used it, but now I am having it in my kitchen it could happen that I try it. As you say, a good alternative to oven in this heat.
Látom tanultál valamit 😂🤣
Do it and say thank you later. It's a brilliant invention.
I love desserts, and I really don't know why, they are bad for me LoL. The joys of reading this community of evil bakers/cooks/chefs etc.
I love them too, but I'm on diet, so I only have a piece from time to time 😃
Wow. That looks amazing. It looks like a simple way of baking, but I know it's not as easy as I can imagine. 😅
Actually it is very easy, the easiest of all cakes, so don't be afraid :)
These look so yummy, adding natural fruits to confectionaries are really sweet and with less preservatives which is really nice to try.
The main idea is to make your food as healthy as possible and you can only get that, if you make it yourself.
That looks delicious! I love that it can be done in an air fryer! I'll take a slice! 😁

One slice going to @bulliontools 😎😆 You won't regret it as it's heavenly good. Next week I have to make another one.
I've never had gooseberries, but I love pretty much all berries. I'm sure I'd enjoy it. 😁
You never had gooseberries? How is it possible? 😲 You need to buy some and try them out! ASAP! 😆
It looks so yummy! I could try this recipe in my air fryer too.
Do it as you won't regret it. It is really good.
I absolutely love gooseberries, but I've never eaten them like this. In fact, I've never even seen gooseberry pie for sale anywhere. I think it's a fantastic combination — the gooseberries must add a nice tangy flavor, and I love that! 👍
Give me half the pie)
😆 No wonder you like it as you like sweets. You would love it, so if you can find some where you are, give it a try. Simple and delicious.
Well gooseberries are not very popular because they are sour, but are actually perfect for pies and jams too as the peal has a lot of pectin, the ingredient you need to make the jam thicker.
I've never liked them, but this pie totally charmed me. My dad is coming to visit on Monday and he already ordered a pie 😆 He's bringing more gooseberries, but he is cleaning them before bringing them to me, so no more punishment 😎😂
Dad knows a thing or two about pies.
And by the way, the gif doesn't seem to be working on peakd.com again, but it's fine on ecency.com.
Yeah, I saw the gif os stuck but I can guess what it is 😅
Thank you!
