Let It Snow!

I had a rough morning, which put me to the test, but I can at least say I'm not a snowflake and this word has a deep meaning today. I woke up all in pain and was planning to take a day off, which, translated into my own terms means work as usual, just maybe not at full speed. Then I went to the window and saw everything was white. This can only meant one thing, that I am going out for a photo shoot! No matter how unwell I was feeling, I knew this was an occasion I couldn't miss as snow is becoming a scarce joy with every year goes by.

So I got myself together and dragged myself out of the door, to try my hand at shooting snowy photos. The truth is, I did not pay attention to the outside temperature, so I took my usual coat, which has become a bit too light for this weather, so I was cold all along. Good thing I know how to balance cold and I did that successfully, to avoid catching a cold.

This photo shoot was a struggle from the start as I was not feeling well, but I knew once the sun comes out, it will be game over, so there was no time to waste. At the time of writing, 90% of the snow is already gone, which was not even snow in the first place. It's was like frost, but maybe this is not the right word. There was a light fog during the night, which turned into this frost. Turns out my area was the only one affected in the city as in other parts the weather was clear and dry. I call that luck.

20221219_085825a.jpg

I tried my best, to take some decent photos, but the truth is, I could have done a better job. Lack of focus had the final word, but I was still able to select a few photos.

20221219_090148a.jpg

There are still green leaves at places and those were caught off guard now as this frost has already killed them.

20221219_090148aa.jpg

My plan was to take some close up photos, macros, try to capture some nice snowflakes, but no such luck today as there were no snowflakes at all. If you look at it, these are like sticks, no shape of snowflake is visible.

20221219_090210a.jpg

Last year, when I had the amazing chance to capture some absolutely amazing snowflakes, I looked up how many types exist and trust me, there's a great variety, but nothing like this. These have no shape.

The last one standing! When there's snow, I'm always looking for something colored, remained in good shape, to have some contrast and a red leave is the best. Today I was particularly happy to see this one, especially that there was a net behind it.

I love this one. The light was not the best as it was gloomy but still, I like it.

This little fellow was looking for something to eat. With everything covered in white, chances to find something was slim to none. This reminds me of International Birds Day and that I need some food for them and a place where I can find them and also has to be a remote area as feeding birds is forbidden by law.

Cobblestones are always funny, unless you're driving :)

This was the last shot I took and was happy to find some roses in the middle of December.

I hope you liked this snowy post and I also hope that I can come back with more, but that depends on mother nature as well, not just me.

These are cool photos. I love the photo of the trees especially. Poor bird when you can't feed them.

Yay, snow arrived 😍
Sorry to hear you woke up in pain, but I hope this snow shooting walk helped.
The photo with the snowy cobblestones is my favourite. Enjoy the ❄️

I'm feeling better already, thank you 😊

The snow is almost gone, but the temperature is quite low again, -3°C now and will be -6°C in the morning, so maybe, I mean maybe will be white again, but I'm afraid this is just wishing thinking.

The cobblestone road is a nice one. That's the place where I would love to catch some fog but I don't think it's going to happen this year. 😕

Am sorry for your health challenge. The happy part of it was that you didn't allow it to bring you down. I love the rose flowers, they are so beautiful.

I'm so sorry to read that you've been feeling unwell. I hope you feel many times better tomorrow.

Your photos of those ice crystals are absolutely spectacular and totally worth being cold for in my opinion. You should really frame the one of the winding road, it's gorgeous.

I was lucky to capture all this and I'm really grateful.
The road 😃 yes, that is a good one.

Erika, I can only say by way of exclamation, what a beauty! And how nature allows itself to be captured like a model on a catwalk with your lens, dedication, effort, and love for what you do.

I love how the light scatters the colors in a spectral way due to the effect of the snow. Unfortunately, in many places, snowfall has diminished in many places due to climate change, and that influences the environment.

I hope your health gets stronger, so you can continue to enjoy these landscapes in your home environment. ❤️

It is indeed nice and very unfortunate that snow is becoming rare. Thank you for your concern, I'm feeling much better already. Have a nice evening :)

Bummer that you were feeling awful!
And, like you, I like the ones with contrast the best. The first green leaf 🌿 and then the red rose 🌹 are my two favourites! !LUV

I want to go there and enjoy snowfalls. Sad to know this bird can't find his feed due to snow. Overall your photography is awesome. I really enjoy it. Thanks for sharing.

Thank you and don't worry about the birds as they won't die of hunger. Mother nature or humans will take care of them.

You've got better snow than me...I have to look in the freezer for snow. One of the hazards of Summer I guess.

😂 So you keep your snow in the freezer. Do you usually have snow during winter?

Yep, the snow is right next to the ice cream.

Here in Adelaide, no snow, but it snows in other parts of the country like Tasmania, Victoria, New South Wales and Canberra. We have ski fields here and there, Mt Buller and Falls Creek are two I can think of.

Here, one could snorkel on the Great Barrier Reef in temperatures of 28 degrees then snow ski the next day. It's a very large country.

You made a perfect movement by not allowing yourself down and must say you went out to shoot the snow just like exercise.

The vast difference of your images compared to mine at the same time of the year is kinda jaw dropping. Last Sunday I went out for a family lunch wearing my short sleeve t-shirt. 20C!
I had no idea that feeding birds is prohibited there. To be honest I wish we had something similar cause birds have more than enough to eat around here anyway without being snow challenged but most importantly we often have cases of pigeon overpopulation. And while I don't mind the overpopulation of any kind of birds, pigeons can turn a whole neighbourhood to a shit hole (literally) in no time. Takes only a misanthropist loner to destroy a few blocks of buildings by feeding those rats of the sky. Cause these people don't feed a few birds at their door, they leave huge quantities at open spaces (soaked bread usually).
Hope your pain is over and you're feeling as good as possible - have a nice day!

It is jaw dropping but that's reality.
Feeding birds is a double edge sword, unfortunately and people can't see it. They think they are doing good but once birds get used to being fed, their instinct to look for food starts to fade away. They say don't start to feed them if you don't do it constantly. The mess they make is another matter, which doesn't look good but I don't mind as they have their role in nature.
And I'm feeling better thank you :)

This is what I have been waiting for, the snow is really very beautiful, I am curious about what it feels like when I touch them, whether it is soft

And I am a little worried about your condition, I wish you a speedy recovery🙏

The snow can be soft when you touch it, but only if it's fresh. Temperature is fluctuating during, which causes snow to melt a bit and sometimes the surface becomes icy, which can act like a knife. If you fall on it, it can cut you easily.

Thank you for the nice words, but I'm ok already, no need to worry.

Thank goodness then, and have a nice day 🙏

My country has a tropical climate and I have not yet had the opportunity to enjoy the snow, but when I see images like these or movies, I am always motivated to one day have that snow in my hands.
