More Art

Today I had a rough day and as distraction, I thought I'd share some art, because looking at art for me is like traveling to different places and back in time as well. We do that on a daily bases by looking at photos posted by others, or videos. Back when there were no photos, paintings were filling in that void.

So let's see where this trip in time and space can take us today.

Lajos Tihanyi - Sunlit Street Of Baia Mare With Blue House And The Red Valley - 1907

When I see these paintings, featuring old houses and streets, I'm thinking maybe the artist is painting their childhood memories, maybe their parental home. These are always sweet memories for everyone. To me, this scene says tranquility, which is much needed. Life back then was much more calmer.

Béla Varga Mágori - Sunny Landscape Of Baia Mare - 1929

This canvas seemed a bit too colorful for my taste. I was trying to guess what those red parts on the road are, but I have no idea. The truth is, there were several artworks from different artists this colorful. It was a bit surprising, but it looks like back in those days using a bit stronger colors was accepted.

Valér Ferenczy - Landscape with Brooklet at Maramures

János Kmetty - Baia Mare Street View - 1925

When I saw this painting, the first word that came to my mind was rough, meaning a rough presentation of the street. Contrary to what you may think, I like this style. Why? I can't tell you as I don't know. Most likely I find it interesting, or out of the ordinary?

Sándor Ziffer - The Reformed Church in Baia Mare

I've never been to Baia Mare, but this painting reminded me of several churches I visited this year. Maybe they differ in size, but there's a certain similarity between them, when it comes to architectural style. What I like about this one is the blue and the green combination. There are several shades of blue and that yellowish green that goes perfectly with them.

Tibor Boromisza - Small Market of Baia Mare - Verso: Portrait of the Painter's Wife, Mária Tordai - 1910

Trust me, I had to read the label a few times and look at the painting each time, to understand what it mans and still I think I don't understand. One version is that there's a painting on both sides of the canvas. At least based on the label. But have you ever seen such thing? I haven't. There are movies in which the original painting is covered with another one, mostly to hide the original, which is very valuable. Are those stories true? Can such thing be done? I have no idea.

If this canvas is painted on both sides, which would be the reason? Can you give me one? Now obviously there was no option to flip the painting, which means the gallery decided to use this side, or I don't understand anything here.

As about the painting, I love the simplicity, the minimalist style, if I can cal it that/ The simple cloths of the lady, the simple background, which is made a bit more interesting with that painting, behind her. The frame is a perfect mach as it fits the background color nicely.

Rezső Bálint - Interior - 1908

This painting made me smile. For some reason it reminded me of Van Gogh's Bedroom series. Basically I can't explain why as these colors are far from what Van Gogh used in most of his paintings and the furniture is not the same, but still. The colors used by Rezső Bálint are vivid and not exactly my stile, but I love it. There are certain things that can't be explained. Like why I love this painting. This is kind of like you look at it and you like it, but don't know why. Would I buy it? No. Would I hang it on the wall? No, but I like it.

Károly Ferenczy - The Redd Wall III. - 1910

I think if someone would invent a scanner, that could read visitor's mind, would be a lot of fun to read the results. I don't know what you see when you first look at this painting, but my 21st century mind saw a lady and a gentleman, standing with their backs to each other, both looking at their cellphones. Crazy, right? Obviously that is out of the question as there were no cellphones back then. But what are they holding? I guess it'll remain a mystery. If you can see more than I can, let me know. I'd be happy to read your comment.

both looking at their cellphones.

I think the painter Károly Ferenczy is a time traveler, so he can see what the people in our time are doing (glued to the phone) and then implement it into his painting, hahah

I like the focusing effect on the frame of Sunlit Street Of Baia Mare With Blue House And The Red Valley it makes your eyes drawn into the painting.

I really like the two streets of Baia Mare paintings.

Street Of Baia Mare
Baia Mare Street View

Now on to the mystery... first here are all three Red Wall paintings by Ferenczy link Interesting that the three paintings are so different... the third painting looks almost unfinished compared the the crisp details of the first two versions. I think the man is vain and looking at himself in a compact mirror. The kind that folds so you can keep it in your purse to check your makeup. The woman is reading a small note... like an invite or something that size. Thats my guess 🙂

You're a magician, always find the missing piece of the equation. Thanks for the link, I'm going to check it out.

Maybe the man is looking at the woman in the mirror? 🤷‍♀️

I think aside from the painting itself, what made the "Sunlit Street Of Baia Mare" more attractive is its frame. The frame made it appear as if you are looking through a window...

There were some pretty impressive frames this time. I've seen a lot of frames along the years but what they had here was something I've never seen before.

It's true that all paintings are beautiful; there are some art that can be difficult to interpret. I'm genuinely amazed by you because you understand the messages of the paintings. The creative minds of artists are truly fascinating. I'm so excited for your next blog about art. Keep it up 👏

Don't be. I'm telling you what I see and what I think but only God knows if I'm right or not. These painters are not among us anymore, so who knows. I guess each of us sees what they want 🙂

Beautiful paintings. I love it when they are as beautiful as they are, but they also convey a slice of time and life. About the red parts of the road, I was wondering if it was not just red soil so I looked around, and looks like it might just be clay. Red soil was more prevalent in the neighboring town of El Dorado it seems. I have no idea how accurate this assertion is as it came my way through gpt4, but it sounds plausible :) Thanks for showcasing some cool art.

Could be clay although we don't have a lot of clay here, it's rare, but who knows.

True. That path reminded me of my village when I was young but the red then was due to red soil and bricks that were being used for the local construction. Isn't it interesting to think of how much the artist took in like a photo and how much they let their imagination add value from other ideas they had? It is wonderful.

In the last painting, I think the man holds an engagement ring still thinking if he would go for it, while the lady holds a letter (maybe from his faraway boyfriend). I don't know what's the connection of the two. But that's what I saw. Lol.

Interesting, I've never thought of that, but could be.

I have a similar feeling with Music, listening to great compositions that have withstood the test of time - they often capture the zeitgeist... Thus it is like a reflection of the moment.

I am a bit at the opposite enjoying the very colorful ones as I don't wear a lot of color in my day by day life so I enjoy seeing color in other forms.
Anyway, on the 2nd image I think the red parts represent the soil at the bottom of some small hills on sides of the road. At least that's what my brain sees right now 🤔

It's ok to like colors, no worries and it explains why you do. The good thing in art is that each visitor has a different taste and there will surely be someone to like what is displayed 😄
