The Almighty Nature

After two days of Christmas preparations, today I had more free time, so I thought I'd take a walk to enjoy the weather. Last night was raining heavily but it stopped some time during the night and in the morning everything was muddy, but at least it wasn't cold. You can imagine, there was not a single soul in the park, which was good in a way.

My main focus was the platanus, I wanted to do a photo shoot about the bark as it is pealing off and have been waiting for the right time. I took some photos as the process has started, but it's far from over. Last year I said I'm going to document the process, so the first phase is done. I'm going to wait a few weeks and do another photo shoot to capture the final phase as well.

Today I'd like to share a miracle with you. Hold on, this is not some religious vision, virgin Mary has not appeared in front of me or in my dreams, but I have learned something that is quite remarkable.

About three weeks ago I did a photo shoot about those frozen roses, that got caught by snow and then covered by ice as the low temperatures and humidity is creating ice. Most of the roses were cut off already, only a few have remained at that time and I said it's the end. Here's my post about it. So today I knew I'm not going to find any roses but nature prove me wrong.

Those that were covered by ice last time are done already as expected, but I found quite a few new ones, that have grown from bud since I last was there.

This is a new bud, can't be older than a few weeks. I still can't believe I was able to find rose buds at the end of December, when temperatures has been as low as -6°C. This one is a gorgeous piece because it has so many colors, shades.

This is the same type, same color, but it's not open yet, the outer layers are still on the bud.

Turns out these are yellow roses, but most likely at this phase the outer petals are red, or it is due to the cold, I don't know.

This was already done, before it could open, unfortunately. It may be because it's another type and maybe more sensitive to low temperature, or it was already open, when those low temperature happened.

I've never had roses, because it's not a balcony flower. My grandmother, who had a beautiful garden had roses either, I don't know why, but I have always thought roses are sensitive to cold. I've seen rose bushes covered with plastic wrap or plastic bottles to protect them from the cold.

In public parks no one does that, rose bushes are spending the winter without any protection and are still fine every year. I'm not an expert, know very little about roses, but what I saw today shocked me a little.

This is out of focus unfortunately, but it's still nice. I love those yellow-red petals. I'm always in favor of colorful petals, rather than having just one color.

When I got home, I started downloading and looking at the photos and had to acknowledge what a crappy job I did. Today I took around 280 photos, 92 of which had to be deleted. 🤦‍♀ Usually I take at last 2 photos of each scene to be sure. Today for some reason I took 3 or 4 in some cases, which has proven to be a wise decision. There are always photos that must be deleted, but not 92. This was a wake up call, I need to be more careful from now on.

So today I've learned that nature has it's on rules, winter is cold but there are still heroes fighting the cold, trying to survive. Oh, and by the way, taking flower photos during winter is much more fun!

@livinguktaiwan, these are not macros, just flower photos 😁

Kikikikiki 🤣🤣, I can't stop laughing when you said this, but you you saw today is indeed a miracle just like you said.

That's why Nature is unpredictable, the flower you thought it will die off grows back with a blooming color , it's amazing...

For me it is really a miracle as who would have thought roses can survive these low temperature, frost and snow. 😄

No bugs at this time of the year young lady, sorry, you'll have to wait two or three months still. Not even frozen bugs 😂

Do flowers sometimes mix the seasons? Or does it defy the season? I don't think so, I witnessed last week that mountain tulips, which should normally open in the spring, bloom in a period when the winter is the hardest.

Flowers act based on outside temperature. If it is warm enough, sometimes they bloom during late autumn too, like these ones, which should not happen. Unfortunately global warming is messing up everything, winters are not so cold anymore and summers are extremely hot and dry. Then we get snow and cold in spring, when the gardening season should begin and everything is delayed. In a couple of decades this will be a serious issue.

I thought the same about roses but I guess I was wrong too. Nature is amazing. Finds its way!

The roses proved you wrong and also cleared your doubt.

They're are lovely looking survivors tho.
