The Killer (2023) - Movie Review
Last night scrolling through the movies currently available on Netflix, I saw The Killer and when I saw Michael Fassbender in the leading role, knew right away I'm going to watch it. I'm more a series fan, but with the recent events in my life, I don't have much patience for series, so I'd rather focus on movies, that last up to 2 hours.
I'm a huge fan of Michael Fassbender, have seen 9 of his movies so far and will continue to follow his work. This tells you already that I didn't need any introduction, but a huge surprise was expecting me.
When I pressed play, I saw the player resumed where I left off, which was a surprise as I didn't realize I started watching it at all. This is never a good sign as I'm not quitting movies or series, unless I don't like them and ... well... soon I had to realize why I have given it a try previously and have mot finished it.
A man solitary and cold, methodical and unencumbered by scruples or regrets, the killer waits in the shadows, watching for his next target. And yet the longer he waits, the more he thinks he's losing his mind, if not his cool. A brutal, bloody and stylish noir story of a professional assassin lost in a world without a moral compass, this is a case study of a man alone, armed to the teeth and slowly losing his mind.
Yes, you can guess already that Michael Fassbender is a hired killer and not only. When you think of a hired killer, most of you expect a lot of action, chasing, hiding and what not, but this movie is different.
The main focus is more on the psychological aspect of the job, how a killer lives the work emotionally, rather than on the action itself. I'm not saying this is unprecedented, most likely there have been other, similar approaches, but it's not very common.
After watching the movie, I went to my favorite review platform, to see what people say about it and can tell you, most of them were not happy about it. This is why expectations ruin your experience.

If you put aside your expectations, previous experiences and focus exclusively on what you see, you'll realize there's a lot to learn from it. It's full of lines that could be quotes in life, some funny, some sad, but the movie definitely has a lot of meaning. Basically it puts you in the killers shoes and makes you relive the life they are living.
I'm a bit bothered by the title, because killer doesn't quite describes it. Killer could be anyone who takes a life, but Michael Fassbender plays the role of a hitman, a contract killer, which is different.
Regarding the actors and acting, needless to say Michael Fassbender is brilliant in this role. It is not an easy role as I could say the movie is an one man show even though there are many other actors, Fassbender is getting 80% of the screen time. The constant seriousness, the calmness of the character, the stillness and emotionless face to play must have been a challenge. Tilda Swinton, although her role is short here, is a nice addition, and the same goes for Kerry O'Malley.
The particularity of the movie is that the main character is traveling through his work, so you get to see not only different airports, but several big cities too. Well, part of them obviously, what it's possible.
Unfortunately my focus was all over the place and wasn't ready for such a movie, so there's a possibility I'm going to watch it again, when I'm ready, or not :)
All in all I'd rate it as 7/10.
If you like Michael Fassbender and not after 30 dead in the first 5 minutes kind of action, give it a try.

It looks good, you should give it a chance hehe, good post
Give it a chance? I watched it already, what more chance should I give it?
It sounds like a demanding movie, I mean that takes your effort to follow it with attention, "study" the character... I don't know, when I was watch a movie I prefer something light and not psychological
This definitely requires attention and can't watch it as noise in the background, but I guess it worse it :)
