This Was Quite Funny

Sometimes I like to listen to music while working and these times are good occasions to look for something new, but as each platform has an algo, you get quite a lot of suggested content. This is how today YouTube suggested me something I've never bumped into previously.

The title of the video was Tchaikovsky Techno Mix (Inspired by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky) – Elegant Violin for Deep Focus. Obviously it triggered my curiosity as I love remixes, especially classical music remixed, it gives the classical music a new life basically, so I said let's give it a try.

When the music started, I said this is a mix of old and new in every possible way. Then, when I saw the first few seconds in the video, my first thought was "this is amazing", but only for a split second, as my next thought was "this is not real, this is AI" and was right. From here, to let's say half of the video, I can say I had a good time hunting for evidence and having a laugh every few minutes.

I am not very familiar with Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky's music, could not possibly recognize how much of his music is present here and how much is just generated to sound good, but the title says "Inspired by Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky", so you can't say it's a remix of Tchaikovsky's music. Anyway, the music is good, I can listen to it and enjoy it, but the video is a different matter.

What gives it away right in the first minute is the following. Seeing a concert hall of this size, filled with people dressed in 19th century costumes, dancing on this 21st century music, I knew it would be a dream to see something like this, but the economist in me knew the next second, that the budget such a project would need is insane. Not impossible, but insane as you'd never get as much income from sales, as it is needed to cover the costs, let alone make some profit. So what I did next was to look for clues to prove it's AI.

First I checked if the "DJ/Violinist" has all his finders, his eyes and ears are in the right place, as that's where AI fails so many times. This was ok, so I moved on to look for other evidence and this is where the fun began.

Look at this screenshot. The guy has two headsets. Well, I'm not saying it's not possible, most likely DJs have a spear, just in case, but have you ever seen any have both on their head or around their neck? 😆

image.png

Then he changes his outfit. Well, it happens for actors, actresses, singers to change outfit quickly, but not conductors. Yet the guy here has a different jacket and his headset is with cord.

image.png

But the most entertaining part is the dance. The scenes are repetitive, so if you watch it for like 10 minutes, you can learn the script and anticipate what's coming, which helps you observe the details more thoroughly.

What was the funniest here and clear indication of AI, not that is was needed at that point, but still, was the funny dance moves these poor dancers made. It goes well till one point, when some of them basically make some impossible moves, or rather transform or show up in a different position.

image.png

This dance is the funniest. Don't get me wrong, if this would be real and not generated by AI, it would be the most amazing dance in the history of humanity, but what you see here is unreal and rather funny. The bend forward and backward but not everyone is facing the same direction, which basically makes these bendings impossible as no one is that flexible, unless we're talking about Olympics level gymnasts 😆

image.png

This is another funny part. If you've ever seen a DJ mixing music, you know how it's done. The gentleman here is looking to adjust volume or some other sound, instead of turning the disc back and forth. this is not the only "mistake" like this as he's trying to adjust buttons where there are none. It's quite funny.

For me, this was an exercise, to sharpen my detecting skills and get better at observing little, but very important and significant details. It was a lot of fun as well.

Otherwise the idea is very good, the visual aspect is good as well, as the gentleman looks good, the concert hall is fabulous, and the dancers, although small and most of the times acting unrealistically, look good. Imagine where AI can advance, if they manage to fix these mistakes and the ones I didn't notice.

Give it a try, watch 10 minutes of the video to see for yourself. It's fun!

the thing is, you spotted some quite bad mistake from the author, someone more smart and skilled will make it really hard to detect it... ai does good music, but i still prefer to appreaciate a real author, ai just mix up and copy but cant be original

You can have the original author, I don't mind. I don't want it.

😆🤪
Well, when it comes to EDM, which is my favorite, you get a mix of human and machine generated music, so it's perfect for me 😎

This new AI music drives me crazy! Some of it is so good, but then you start to question whether it is really music at all.

As long as it sounds like music, it is music for me 😅

I love the sound. But like you said, the video is funny. Especially when the DJ is turning knobs where none exist.

Exactly. Has a lot of flaws, but the music is good.

Interesting stuff that people put out there... For me it was the face right away, saying it was animated. Good animation, yes, but still noticeable digital.

The music could be an okay background music for work. But a little too "boring" for me. Not sure why, not the AI-bias as I clicked the link before I read the post.

What you say about the dances is absolutely true. I chuckled when I saw that. Just the idea of having 19th century folks dance to electronic music, and how that would look, considering the typical dances of that time - the AI did a great job interpreting there.
