Your Chance To Get My Attention

avatar

I've never thought I'd do this, but here I am. The whole thing started when I came across @slobberchops's post about looking for users to vote. Hive is not living its golden age at the moment, a lot of users are inactive due to various reasons and I could use a list of new users to vote, but going out to look for them takes a lot of time, time I don't have. The upcoming period is going to be even more busy for me, so I thought I'd give this a try.

This is not my first rodeo, back on the legacy chain I used to do this often with delegations, so I know it's not an easy process and it comes with a lot of drama as well, but I'm going to give it a try anyway.

k75bsZMwYNu2L3iBMXq5y7xeiy1isFJsZxnMZSXuXEsxe4ee1cUkGyPMyvsFEjsqMrjnWRgqegCQxKt4RgRxV5XAXFVkssuZ2QQh4nziuLZS2iDfL2D5U3z4MjSKkJAmCaBEZWoVXt9Nv8s83ksGfknwbs5PDc4qc.png

source

That said, let me tell you how it's going to work.

This is not going to be a voting service and no votes are guaranteed for those selected. My intention is to create a list of users to check, whenever I have time and VP available. You can call it whitelist if you want, but the name is not important. The vote is going to be manual and only after checking the post and the account each and every time. This means getting on this list does not automatically guarantee you a vote.

Hive has some rules, then I have my own set of rules and both combined, here's what I'm looking for, when selecting users for my list. The order is not relevant as you need to check all the boxes.

  • Activity - I'm looking for active users, who are posting and engaging regularly, not just here and there, when $HIVE price is at a convenient rate for them
  • Content - I'm looking for original and interesting content, not AI written or spun. I also prefer longer content and reward those who make an effort. However, photography is an exception, but it has to be quality
  • Topics - The following topics don't interest me: religion, politics, gaming, music, trading, crypto, news, sports ...
  • KE - which is the Rewards/Stake index. You can check yours at your profile. I'm thinking 2 is the upper limit to still be ok. If yours is above it, please don't nominate yourself
  • Language - English only
  • Abuse History - If you have abuse history, please move on as I'm going to check each user manually
  • Self Voting - I'm going to select users who don't reward themselves this way
  • Delegation - I'd like to keep this at minimum, especially for new users, who should be focused on growing their own account
  • Account Age & Reputation - My intention is to support new users, but that doesn't mean you create a new account and you're in. Your account has to be at least 3 months old and your reputation has to match your 3 months activity. If your rep is close to what you started with, that indicates there's a problem.

These are a few things I'm looking at, when checking out a new account and I wanted to let you know, so you can save us both from wasting valuable time.

While we're here, I'd like to point out, that we have another rewards distribution option available, courtesy of PeakD. You can opt for 75% HP and 25% HBD, which means 75% of your rewards will be staked instead of 50%, which is the default setting. You can set this as default, from your profile settings.

Ok, I think this is all. Leave me a comment if you're interested in getting on my list. I'm going to check every account and reply as well, just give me some time.

If you're a newbie, you may want to check out these guides:

Hello @erikah how are you?? It is really great initiative by you and even many new users onboard Daily but left their journey soon, as due to lower HIVE value and getting no upvotes makes them Demotivate and uninterested, as now a days people want success ASAP without being consistent and giving quality contents... i think your initiative will hold the users and understand the real value of Hive...

Wish you Good Luck my Lady...

Thank you @gargi, I really appreciate it. I'm ok thank you and how are you?

You're right, hose who come here to get rich quickly, are leaving just as quickly as their dream is crushed. Unfortunately not many want to put in the work that is needed here.

Welp....My content is religion and crypto so lol

But I applaud the initiative! Things like this are so important, because as soon as people don't feel valued here, they will disappear. I think retention is as important as ever these days!

Yes, retention is important and we can all do our part to help.

Is it Ok to nominate someone else? (I'm doing OK myself 😇--don't need encouragement). Someone commented intelligently on one of my posts yesterday. Brand new, seems eager and intelligent. I delegated 25 Hive just so she can keep commenting and posting. izzy-daily. From the Philippines. Seems to be posting every day. In the past I've been wrong about people, but this seems to be the genuine article. I think with encouragement she would stay. I try to find new Hivers like this and give them a leg up until they make inroads.

Anyway, great initiative you have. One at a time, all of us together, to keep the community strong...or at least as strong as we can.

It is ok to nominate others, but this user is a week old. One of the criteria is to have at least 3 months activity on Hive. I didn't checked the rest.

Anyway, if she resists for 3 months and qualifies, she can get on my list.

Hi Erikah, I think that this is a great idea, as we have to somehow get it through to the newbies that persistence, perseverance and dedication are required to succeed on Hive. All strength to your efforts. I also have my eye on two newbies, and thus far they seem to post and engage every day.

Thanks Zach. The activity on Hive is really low now and I think support is always welcome. If we each do our part, little by little this place will make progress.

Let's see if initiative takes up or dies here.

Hey! Just checked, but it's a shame you are not following me yet 😃
I play word games and sometimes challenge people 😉

My blogs are mostly about Hive, photography, gardening and more...

I think you already know my blog (just a thought, haha). I follow you, but you don't follow me (yet).

How about to fix that, @erikah? Looks like the time is right now. :)

Congrats on taking a step forward with this initiative.

Consistency, orignality, genuine interaction and good reputation. Hive price does worry me sometimes, but it is okay. Good times will come, if not we will be waiting for it. Oh HOPE: a blessing and torment at the same time. Formally, I would be grateful if you could consider taking a look at my profile.

Peace 🕊

Have a good time!

That’s a great initiative, @erikah. As a newbie, I know exactly what it’s like to not get any upvotes or to get upvotes with very low values (dust).

Hopefully, your good intentions will help newcomers on Hive stick around and receive recognition for their posts.

I just followed you and reblogged this post. Hopefully, this will help spread the word so that newcomers who need support can read it.

Have a great day.

So I checked your account and there are a few things that makes you not qualify, the biggest is your consistency. Your account is as old as mine, you seem to post for a couple of months, then disappear, then come back and so on and so forth. Your account is 8 years old and you made 66 posts. Not really the consistent type, are you :)

So here's the deal. Show me 3 months of consistency and if you check the other boxes, you can get on my list.

Have a nice weekend.

Yeah, that’s fine with me. I totally agree with you—consistency is one of the things I struggle with.

Right now, I’m challenging myself to write consistently on a regular basis. Not with the goal of making money or anything like that. Just to write consistently—that’s all.

By the way, thanks for visiting my account. Have a great day.

It's a great idea. I created a simple script using Gemini that lets you quickly grab posts less than 24 hours old from multiple communities. It shows you the post payout and the user's KE at a quick glance. It's free to use if you like.

Your parameters are tricky. Most new users dont make it through the gauntlet of the 1st 3 months.
Hope you find some folks to support, id be interested to see who makes the cut.

There's a reason why this rule is in place. If they can't make it through the first 3 months, then good luck to them elsewhere.

From a individual user perspective i can agree. It makes sense you want to support the new diehards.
From an entire chain perspective…. Should the first 3 months really feel like a gauntlet you need to survive through???

First of all, I am representing myself, as an individual user and this is my stake and my decision. This initiative is mine and you should look at it as such, not from an entire chain perspective.

Secondly, I've seen where showering brand new users with big votes leads and trust me, they leave the second you don't support them, because getting big votes teaches them to post only for these votes, cash out everything and many don't even care to reply to comments, let alone try to get followers and support organically, or consume any content.

Should the first 3 months really feel like a gauntlet you need to survive through???

Nope, not at all. The whole journey is a consistency and survival game as nothing is guaranteed here. One day you're at the top and the next you get nothing, which is why one should manage their account wisely.

I hope i have not offended. Certainly not my intention. I think my second comment starts by agreeing and in a broad way covers both your points here.
I guess its more about me wondering if this consistency and survival game is an effective way to grow a chain and foster retention.
I dont know the answer, but my brain scrambles for solutions.
I dream of some way to catch those who come only to extract, some sort of code trap that catches them quicker, allowing the chain to distinguish the real people, who just come out of curiosity and potential interest..but arrive to feeling overwhelmed/confused/lost/unseen...there are many that fall through this gap... they aren't so concerned about the money but just arrive to a sense of void and give up.
I'm not of the camp of saying...well good riddance. I feel its worth trying to find a way to give a sense of home to the more passive user too.

All that being said. I want to be clear. I'm not trying to harass you or this effort to support. Quite the opposite. I appreciate the effort and it makes a lot of sense why you chose those parameters. I'm genuinely interested in what profiles shake out as i will likely add them to my support list.

I guess its more about me wondering if this consistency and survival game is an effective way to grow a chain and foster retention.

You have to distinguish between individual curators and projects, in this including projects funded through DHF.

But if you want to know how to fix retention, you need to look at the root of the problem, and that is onboarding. You need to see why people are joining and what's their intention.

As long as onboarding is focused on underdeveloped countries, where people are struggling to survive and would literally do anything for a penny or two, this is what you get. When the onboarder's strongest argument is "you can be financially rewarded", it's a lost case from the start as you're never going to get more than extractors and the only way you can retain these users is to feed them endlessly, regardless of their behavior. Stop voting them and they leave the next second. Simple as that.

Most of my comments usually get 14 downvotes. I don't consider myself top Hiver and can only guess why these morons downvote certain users, but honestly, I don't even care. Let them waste their time.

The terms are too much, the rules are also chasing people away but then in all good luck on the search.

We're on a 30days writing streak, this streak is to help us raise funding for a project while we prepare for consistency and recruiting new users to board the hive train

Hi, I'm Matt the homeless cartoonist. I post new web comic content every day.

KICKMAN, LLC: A hero and his trusted sidekick struggle to survive in the dog-eat-dog, capitalist world of superheroics (new full page every Sunday).

JAVA JAGUAR is a webcomic based on the true story of a talking jaguar cub found in a local coffee cafe. Yes, I said true story. (new three-panel strip every Thursday)

and

THE REAL SUPERHEROINES OF HIVE VALLEY. A reality-television comic about seven superheroines living in the same mansion. Rated "C" for Cheesecake, or maybe Catfight. (vertical scrolling format, one new panel updated every other day of the week).

Thanks!

Hi Matt, nice to meet you and thanks for sopping by.

Well, out of all your criteria, I think the only one I don’t quite meet is the content one, because right now I’ve been posting more about games, but I’ve actually always posted about everything—I’ve never had a specific niche. I always post whatever I feel like, whatever makes me happy or sad that day or week—things like that.

I’d be honored to be part of the hall of offices and active users who catch your attention. I’ve been on Hive for 5 years; I’m one of the founders of Hive-BR, the Brazilian community here on Hive, and the creator of two games here for Hive. The one that’s been getting a lot of attention is Hive Grove—I don’t know if you’ve seen it yet.

Anyway, if you’d like a more detailed look, my profile is open (I know all profiles are open—that was just a pun). Other than that, we’re here to contribute. Warm regards.

Hey @shiftrox. Let's make a deal. You're on the list as I kind of know you, but I'm going to consider only your non-gaming posts.

About Hive Grove, I don't know it and can't find it either. Can you drop me the link to it? I don't know what's wrong, it's either written differently, or PeakD search is playing up again 😬

Have a nice weekend :)

That’s perfect! Thank you so much for the opportunity and for adding me to your list—it’s an honor! Thank you so much!

Hive Grove is a game I’m developing; it’s been live for a little over a month, and I’ve focused on making it a more social game, where people help each other, leave messages, and share on Snaps, so it’s definitely worth checking out!

Well, finding people who post similar content, or what you like is not easy, I agree on that, but there are still good people here.

The thing with new users is that very often they get carried away and post for rewards, which often results in quality lost.

Thank you.
