WORRIES NEVER SOLVE PROBLEM

It is probably the case that the human person cannot be absolutely be happy, but we can at least do all that is in our power to avoid worries. Worries never solve problem. "In every life we have some trouble, but when you worry you make it double". These are the exact words of Bobby McFerrin in his songs "Don't worry be happy", and that is what I am talking about. Worries never solve problem.

Though it is a funky song, but "Don't worry be happy" by Bobby McFerrin is the song I play when I am in my worse state of anxiety. It reminds me of the truth and help me face my reality; It reminds me that worries do more harm than good. I first heard the song "Don't worry be happy" from a very good friend (Ifeanyi) few years ago, and it has since then become my companion. Though the lyrics never change, but it has the right word for every of my anxiety.

After taking a very crucial decision this weekend, I have been really distressed. I even got more distressed after discussing it with elder brother who never supported my actions. Having found myself in this drowning condition, I needed something to cheer me up, I needed my companion. After listening to it over and over again, I pick up my phone and decided to write. The truth is that I am certainly going to be alright whether my decision turns out good or not, but worries will never change the outcome of my already taken decisions. My companion just reminded me.

I quite my job, and I do not have any other one at hand at the moment. Everyone around adviced me against my decision but I turned deaf ear. The cost of labour over here (Nigeria) is nothing to write home about. As a store keeper in a motorcycle spare parts company, I am being paid 40 thousand Naira (equivalence of about 34 dollars) every month. It was really difficult for me to cope since my pay was simply unable to take care of the little expense the job incurred.

Transportion to my place of work to and fro cost 1200 daily. That implies that I spend about 32 to 34 thousand naira (about 27 to 28 dollars) just on transport every month. With how expensive food have become in Nigeria, the remaining 8 thousand Naira can certainly not take care of my feeding for a week. Now all of these expenses are incurred by the same job that stresses the hell out of me. All the while, I have been using the little money I get from hive to support my expenses while I am working. Is just like I have been spending on a job that should earn me money and I just can no longer continue. I quite, and I have no regret. The fear of sitting at home and not finding a better offer any time soon is the only thing that bothers me. Mean while, to ensure that I do not double my troubles, I would allow nothing bother me any longer.

WOW, less than 40$ a month?

A long time ago, like 1.5 decade or so, been to Lagos quite a few times. Back then, peeps told me kinda the average salary was 200$. Not sure how average it was though, but taxi drivers, policy officers and whatnot. Also not sure how much in Niara.
Is the inflation at play here? Of was I just getting the wrong information?

Anyways, I do hope you'll find your ways doing interesting things for not too bad amount of money.

Naira is currently equivalent to about 1240 dollar. The inflation really have lots of role to play here, but it is not entirely the reason. The inflation only made things worse. Nigerian's current minimal wage is 40 thousand Naira and that's the major problem here. Even with inflation the cost of labour is yet to increase

(Edited)

that is quite a different exchange rate than a decade ago.
just checked the times when I spent some time in Lagos (2010, 2011, 2012), was about 30k Naira for 200$. makes a hell of a difference.
anyways, hope you find some job that suits you for a much higher pay to minimum wage.

The value of Naira keeps depreciation on daily basis. The current incompetent administration even made things worse, the value of Naira moved from about 750 per dollar to about 1800 before it later came to a stablize point of about 1240 in an interval of 6 months. And in all of these, the prize of labour remains the same

The best way to survive in a country such as Nigeria is to become an entrepreneur yourself. I certainly need establish myself beyound working for other. I am gradually working on that though, its just a matter of time.

Even from the days of old, worries have never been a solution to a any problem. The higher it can do is to push the worried person to do what's he's not supposed to....trial by error

This is nice
