Book Shopping - Stephen Donaldson's Thomas Covenant The Unbeliever Series

I am inches away from buying the whole lot, ten books in total. I probably read the first series even before Tolkien's and Herberts' books. Or maybe then about. In any case, it was decades ago.

Now, with a world in turmoil my memory often reflects on this antihero, Thomas Covenant, who declines to accept that dream is his reality.

The Book Depository is my shop of choice and these are the books.

What say you? Shall I dive in headfirst?

Did you read any of these ten books? How did you find them? I read the first six. The latter four are an enigma to me, partly because of mixed reviews. I am ready to go against the flow and read them too. The world needs closure now. From death and madness to life and peace.

Fantasy is my favorite genre and Tolkien is my favorite author. I tried reading Donaldson's books but just couldn't get into them. The more I read the less I liked them. I wanted to like them but I stopped trying after I think the third book.

I understand. These books are strange. Antihero that you can't understand, demanding language, constant feeling of guilt, ... Yet, I loved the first books when I read them at age of 17. I think I'll dive into them for the past's sake.

Thanks again for your opinion, I appreciate it a lot!

I don't think it was really the language that bothered me. It's just that so much of the books involved reading this sort of inner monologue of the protagonists thoughts. It just seems to go on and on without much actually happening in terms of a plot.

I've been looking for another good fantasy series to read. Nothing really lives up to Tolkien of course but I enjoyed the wheel of time series (more the early books) and the seemingly destined never to be finished series, Game of Thrones...

I understand. I'll try it anyway. Call me stubborn :)

What about The Chronicles of Amber? This is a series that I don't dare to venture into. Not because it is demanding in language or monologues. Just the sheer volume of it makes me scared :)

I did read several books in the series yet I don't remember much ...

I have not tried Chronicles of Amber though I believe I have a couple of those books lying around I picked up at a used bookstore at some point in the distant past.

I bought the lot :)

All ten Unbelievers plus two Klunes. Now all I need is enough time and peace of mind to read them all :)

Bom bral pred novim letom 😎 Damned DHL, where are this books now?

Aja, zadnjič sem naročil dve knjigi in dve igrači iz amazon.com. Prišlo je v 11ih dneh z dvema vikendoma vmes preko Nizozemske in Avstrije. DPD brez Carinske pošte. Zakon :)

Lord Foul's Bane is my favorite book of all time, followed closely by The Illearth War. This man is a modern-day Tolkien, and I would love to see the Thomas Covenent series brought to the big screen by Peter Jackson. I'm so glad I was able to get Mr. Donaldson's autograph which you can request for free from his website. An excellent, underappreciated writer.

Thank you very much for your comment.

Donaldson was one of my favourite authors when I discovered sci-fi & fantasy books. I even subscribed to a British book club to order fresh books. That was way before the internet. Imagine how it was ordering, and paying for books from Great Britain and shipping them to Yugoslavia :)
