Coromoto era una mujer del llano que vivió en el estado de Táchira, específicamente en el pueblo del "Hato de la Virgen". A los 22 años se mudó a la ciudad en busca de mejores oportunidades y, 19 años después, ya tenía una familia conformada por sus dos hijos y su pareja. Todo parecía marchar bien hasta que Gerardo, su pareja, los abandonó y se desentendió totalmente de sus hijos. Ella había sido ama de casa durante muchos años, por eso, cuando Gerardo se fue de la casa donde vivían alquilados, se encontró en una situación muy difícil. Coromoto tuvo que buscar trabajo para poder mantener a su familia y pagar las facturas.

Después de buscar trabajo durante algún tiempo, se dio cuenta de que sería más fácil de lo que pensaba. El hecho de encontrarse en una edad avanzada y no tener conocimientos en alguna área técnica le complicó mucho esta labor. Sin embargo, luego de unos meses encontró trabajo como limpiadora de departamentos caseros. A pesar de que el trabajo era duro y el salario no era muy alto, Coromoto trabajó incansablemente para asegurarse de que sus hijos tuvieran todo lo que necesitaban. Ella sabía que la educación era importante y se esforzó por asegurarse de que sus hijos nunca abandonaran sus estudios.

Coromoto was a woman from the plains who lived in the state of Táchira, specifically in the town of "Hato de la Virgen". At the age of 22 she moved to the city in search of better opportunities and, 19 years later, she already had a family consisting of her two children and her partner. Everything seemed to be going well until Gerardo, her partner, abandoned them and totally neglected her children. She had been a housewife for many years, so when Gerardo left their rented house, she found herself in a very difficult situation. Coromoto had to look for work in order to support her family and pay the bills.

After looking for work for some time, she realized that it would be easier than she thought. The fact that she was at an advanced age and had no knowledge in any technical area made it very difficult for her. However, after a few months she found a job as a housecleaner. Although the work was hard and the salary was not very high, Coromoto worked tirelessly to make sure her children had everything they needed. She knew that education was important and worked hard to make sure her children never dropped out of school.

Lamentablemente, este trabajo era esporádico. Podía limpiar unos 3 o 4 apartamentos una vez por semana, lo que hacía que no fuera algo seguro. Aún así, con una carga de responsabilidades inmensa encima, buscaba la manera de conseguir algo mejor. Aunque no era fácil tener una edad avanzada y no tener mucha experiencia laboral, le cerraba muchas puertas, no obstante, en ningún momento desistió.

Había algo que preocupaba mucho a Coromoto, y no era solamente el tema de comida y servicios, sino el de no contar con una casa propia. Donde vivía era alquilado, y la familia del propietario quería sacarlos de la casa. Sin embargo, él sabía de su situación y se había encariñado mucho con ellos, motivo por el cual, después de una conversación, aceptó el aceptar pequeñas cuotas de pago por la casa hasta que el monto fuera alcanzado.

Unfortunately, this job was sporadic. I could clean about 3 or 4 apartments once a week, which made it not a sure thing. Still, with a huge load of responsibilities on top of her, she was looking for a way to get something better. Although it wasn't easy, being of advanced age and not having much work experience closed many doors, she never gave up.

There was something that worried Coromoto a lot, and it was not only the issue of food and services, but also that of not having a house of her own. Where he lived was rented, and the owner's family wanted to get them out of the house. However, he knew about their situation and had become very attached to them, which is why, after a conversation, he agreed to accept small installments for the house until the amount was reached.

Entre tanta oscuridad había algo de luz. Las cosas parecían mejorar un poco, pero no era nada fácil. El tiempo pasaba, su hijo pequeño crecía y su hija mayor se tuvo que poner a trabajar para poder costear sus gastos y aportar para la casa. Se veía mucha infelicidad en su hogar, pues sus sueños se veían truncados y no parecía haber mucha esperanza de que las cosas cambiaran.

Una tarde, Coromoto recibe una llamada de un número desconocido. Pensó que la llamaban para limpiar un departamento, pero era la gerente de recursos humanos de uno de los ministerios más grandes del país. La llamó para informarle que debía apersonarse al día siguiente a la sede principal para cumplir con unas pasantías y ver si podía optar para un cargo fijo. Esta llamada cambió todo. De Coromoto irradiaba una sonrisa de felicidad, pues se le había presentado una oportunidad enorme y no la quería dejar escapar.

Among so much darkness there was some light. Things seemed to be getting a little better, but it was not easy. Time went by, her youngest son was growing up and her eldest daughter had to work to be able to pay her expenses and contribute to the household. There was a lot of unhappiness in their home, as their dreams were dashed and there did not seem to be much hope that things would change.

One afternoon, Coromoto received a call from an unknown number. She thought she was being called to clean an apartment, but it was the human resources manager of one of the largest ministries in the country. She was called to inform her that she had to be at headquarters the next day to complete an internship and see if she was eligible for a permanent position. This call changed everything. De Coromoto was beaming with a happy smile, because she had been presented with a huge opportunity and she didn't want to let it slip away.

Luego de las pasantías, consiguió ser contratada. Su desempeñó la convirtió en la más destacada del grupo y la primera en quedar trabajando. Cuando recibe su primer salario, sintió mucha nostalgia, pues no solo tenía para comprar solo unas pocas cosas, sino que le alcanzaba para llenar más de un carrito de comida, pagar los giros de la casa y poder brindar algunos gustos a su familia. Literalmente, le había cambiado la vida.

Poco tiempo después, ya había pagado su casa y esto fue algo que la llenó de satisfacción. Era bastante humilde, pero era propia y ya no debía tener por quedar en la calle, sino por irla arreglando poco a poco.

After the internship, she managed to get hired. Her performance made her the most outstanding in the group and the first to be hired. When she received her first salary, she felt very nostalgic, because not only did she have enough to buy a few things, but it was enough to fill more than one food cart, pay the house bills and be able to give her family some treats. It had literally changed his life.

Before long, she had paid off her house and this was something that filled her with satisfaction. It was quite humble, but it was her own and she should no longer have to be on the street, but to fix it up little by little.

Coromoto nunca dejó de luchar, mostró esa casta que siempre representa a la mayoría de las mujeres empoderadas. Tomó las riendas de su vida y se convirtió en ejemplo para su familia y muchas personas más. A veces solemos menospreciar a la mujer, no darle el valor que realmente se merecen y aceptar que son un pilar fundamental para la familia y la sociedad. Coromoto never stopped fighting, she showed that caste that always represents the majority of empowered women. She took the reins of her life and became an example for her family and many others. Sometimes we tend to underestimate women, not giving them the value they really deserve and accepting that they are a fundamental pillar for the family and society.
