Seguro que más de una vez has escuchado esas metáforas sobre sentimientos como el amor romántico que utilizan la comida de una forma muy sencilla. Una de mis favoritas es sin duda la del helado porque si te paras un momento a pensar en la última vez que compraste helado. Con todas esas decisiones insignificantes como cuáles fueron tus razones para elegir un sabor sobre una multitud de otros. O si lo devoraste con prisas o, por el contrario, te tomaste tu tiempo esperando a que se derritiera lentamente entre tus manos.

Independientemente de todas esas razones, desde ese primer bocado siempre existió esa certeza, estabas completamente seguro de que el helado se terminaría en algún momento y aunque lo sabes, sin embargo, eso nunca te ha impedido disfrutarlo hasta el final. A veces lo que llamamos amor queremos que sea inmutable al paso del tiempo, no importan las horas ni si realmente funciona. Sé que es difícil abrirse cuando ni siquiera puedes confiar en el futuro o en una estabilidad que ya viene con fecha caducada.

Es casi inevitable pintar ese cuadro de esperanza en un futuro que termina emborronando y nos hace olvidarnos de nuestro presente. De ese ahora que deberíamos estar disfrutando. Puede que a veces el amor sea también ese trozo de hielo que se pega a la lengua con su sabor refrescante. Ese polo que, como en los helados de mi juventud, si podías leer la palabra premio al final en el palo, te daban otro.

Surely more than once you have heard those metaphors about feelings like romantic love that use food in a very simple way. One of my favorites is definitely the ice cream one because if you stop for a moment and think about the last time you bought ice cream. With all those petty decisions like what were your reasons for choosing one flavor over a multitude of others. Or whether you devoured it in a hurry or, on the contrary, you took your time waiting for it to slowly melt in your hands.

Regardless of all those reasons, from that first bite there was always that certainty, you were completely sure that the ice cream would be finished at some point and even though you know it, however, that has never stopped you from enjoying it until the end. Sometimes what we call love we want it to be immutable with the passing of time, no matter the hours or if it really works. I know it's hard to open up when you can't even trust in the future or in a stability that already comes with an expired date.

It is almost inevitable to paint that picture of hope in a future that ends up blurring and makes us forget about our present. Of that now that we should be enjoying. Maybe sometimes love is also that piece of ice that sticks to the tongue with its refreshing taste. That popsicle that, as in the ice creams of my youth, if you could read the word prize at the end on the stick, they gave you another one.
