LBRY - When Radar Gets You

avatar

I remember the time when the 3speak was not what it used to be but there was LBRY. And later they moved to the odysee. And turns out there are very strong decentralize loving community on LBRY.

However what made the LBRY fall down to the centralization? Why some of such content networks eventually get into the radar and they are forced to reveal to the legal teams of the govt.

What made them form the company and comply with the govt? I mean steem and hive was never harassed like the way LBRY got the treatment from the SECs. Isn't it? There must be something that happened which caused it.

Let's talk about it.

What LBRY was, What it is now

Like most of the decentralized companies, LBRY too had good intention. They have this open source code and the tech. And they wanted to take on youtube. But then they formed the crypto token.

And that is where they got into the radar. As almost every open source tech with crypto is in radar these days LBRY was no different. They were later dragged legally and was forced to comply.

Now they have a for profit company and the open source code that kind of mines the LBC. You also have the option to sync with youtube channel and get your content over there. But that's the only progress.

Decentralization to Centralization

Hive is not owned by anyone. But Hive has this witness system that keeps it alive. And the decentralization is in it's vains. So the thing is that it is harder to make it centralized, not impossible, just harder.

LBRY on the other hand was pushed by hands and forced to become a centralized company. Which is a kind of something many people have thought to become when they are faced with lawsuit and the legal issues.

Now you can earn the LBC or even buy them from the centralized KYC based exchanges which makes it hard for your LBC to hold long term. It is not much valued in the market either. So there is not strong reason to stay over there.

The future, just another distribution platform

As you know, relying on single network for the content creation and earning from the crypto means putting yourself into problem. And so this sort of the problem can be reduced by joining as many platforms and writing there.

Here LBRY can become one such platform. Not primary but one of the platforms for getting your message out. You should consider it just another place to post content, not replace your job with.

I feel flying under the radar is the right way to do things.
