El pedido de nunca acabar || The never-ending order

¡Hola Chicos!
Hi everyone!
Today, I’m finally going to share the story of an order that came my way unexpectedly—one that ended up causing me far more headaches than I ever imagined.
It all started when I received a message from a neighbor asking, "Could you knit some diaper covers for my granddaughter?" She also sent me some reference images showing exactly what she wanted.
Honestly, it didn't seem too difficult; I even thought I could finish it in a single day if I really set my mind to it.
I agreed, and a few days later, she dropped off the cloth diapers. When I took a look, I realized they lacked the necessary edge stitching—something I wasn't equipped to do at home. I sent them back, and a couple of days later, they were returned to me, this time with the stitching already done.
Next came the issue of the yarn. I assumed finding the requested colors would be simple, but as it turned out, none of the local shops carried the specific shades—except for a fuchsia, which happened to be one of the colors she’d asked for.
I remembered some yarn my mother-in-law had sent me that I hadn't yet looked through, so I thought, "Maybe these will work!" After checking the weight, I realized only two of them were suitable—one of which was red. Since the order required fuchsia and red trim, I finally had what I needed to get started.
The deadline was about three weeks away, as the baby was due early this month, so I got to work as soon as I possibly could.

I hesitated a lot before starting; since these were small, delicate white cloths intended for a baby, I felt that everything had to be perfect from the very first stitch.
It was my first time crafting something like this, so I watched several videos to get some guidance on how to go about it.
I gathered my courage and began. I marked out the spots, using a ruler to determine exactly where to insert the tool I’d use to punch holes for the needle and thread.
I ended up redoing the first few stitches about four times—I really wanted everything to turn out perfect.

And so, I worked on—slowly but surely. I was also getting a feel for the yarn; I don’t really like working with this particular weight, as it’s so fine—it just takes longer to get the work finished.
When I noticed that minutes kept ticking by and I was still in practically the same spot, I realized that this project was going to take more time than I had initially estimated.

Me iba a dar algo.

Weeks went by, and I was still working on those blessed little cloths. There were six in total, and it felt like the process would never end—I’d get stuck on the second one, then it would take two days or more just to move on to the next, and so it went.
It felt like it took an eternity. Just then, my neighbor messaged me to ask about them; I had promised a delivery date, but things didn’t go as planned.
Frequent power outages left me incredibly frustrated—I didn’t want to work while the electricity was out, fearing I might get the pieces dirty.
By the time I reached the fifth cloth, I felt a surge of excitement—only one left! I decided to take everything out to organize it; up until then, I’d just kept them in the original bag they arrived in, without really looking closely.
When I took them out, I was in for a surprise: it wasn’t just one left—there were three! I nearly had a heart attack. But once I calmed down and accepted that there was still more work to be done, I came up with a plan to finish it all once and for all.
I brought the remaining cloths along when I had to head to Cabimas to get some work done. By this point, I had run out of the original thread, so I had to use a similar yellow thread I had on hand.
Finally, the day came when I finished. Believe me when I say this project was a real challenge—as far as I’m concerned, I never want to crochet another one of these again. I truly hated working with such fine thread, the tedious task of punching holes in the fabric, and just how long it took to complete each individual piece.
I felt the need to get this off my chest and close this chapter, which is why I’m sharing this story with you. Thanks for reading and for joining me in this little cathartic post! ♥
