¡Hola Chicos!
El pasado 6 de enero fue el día de reyes y mi compañera y directora de la academia donde trabajo, organizó una recolecta de fondos para comprar regalos a niños de escasos recursos.
El mismo día de reyes entregamos algunos regalos en el sector donde queda la otra sede de la academia y el sábado fue el día que decidimos entregarlos por acá por la casa, dónde queda la academia.
Teníamos mente una zona que queda a las afueras de la urbanización dónde está la academia, y aunque no habíamos ido para allá, nos aventuramos para llevarle a los niños la alegría a sus casas.

Salimos como a las 10 de la mañana con los regalos metidos en un gran bolso. Al llegar a la zona que llaman "las tuberías", que queda pasando unas tuberias enormes, comenzamos la búsqueda de los niños.
No teníamos ni idea de en cuál casa podríamos encontrarlos, además que era tan temprano que de seguro aún estaban durmiendo.
Se nos ocurrió preguntarle a una señora que se encontraba lavando en el fondo de su casa y ella nos guió sobre dónde podíamos encontrar niños.
Luego de un rato llegamos a una casa donde habían 3 pequeños, a los cuales mi compañera le hizo entrega de un regalo a cada uno. Al principio no entendían que pasaban pero luego que veían los juguetes sus caritas se iluminaban.
We left around 10 in the morning with the gifts in a big bag. When we got to the area called "las tuberías" (the pipes), which is just past some huge pipes, we started looking for the children.
We had no idea in which house we could find them, besides it was so early in the morning that they were probably still sleeping.
It occurred to us to ask a lady who was washing in the back of her house and she guided us as to where we could find children.
After a while we arrived at a house where there were 3 little ones, to whom my companion gave a gift to each one. At first they didn't understand what was happening but after they saw the toys their little faces lit up.
Era necesario contar con evidencias de lo que estábamos haciendo, pues las personas que dieron sus donativos tenían derecho a ver en qué se invirtió ese dinero.
Por supuesto que le pedimos permiso a los representantes de todos los niños que aparecen en estas fotos para capturar esos momentos.
It was necessary to have evidence of what we were doing, as the people who donated had the right to see what that money was spent on.

De ahí en adelante fue mucho más sencillo encontrar niños, nos fuimos encontrando con personas en el camino y ellos mismos no fueron guiando hacia el sitio donde podríamos llevar regalos.
La zona que estábamos visitando era muy humilde, lo que acá es considerado un barrio. Sabemos que llegamos al sitio correcto.
From then on it was much easier to find children, we were meeting people along the way and they themselves were guiding us to the place where we could bring gifts.
The area we were visiting was very humble, what is considered a neighborhood here. We know we came to the right place.
Así poco a poco nuestro bolso fue quedando vacío y en un punto nos quedamos sin juguetes para niña, lo que nos entristeció un poco porque lamentablemente no podíamos ofrecerle nada a las niñas que nos topábamos.
Esto igual no sirvió de motivación para plantearnos una siguiente actividad lo más pronto posible y así poder recompensar a quienes quedaron por fuera.
Era maravilloso ver la carita de emoción de los niños al recibir sus regalos. Todos estaban sumamente contentos.
So little by little our bag was empty and at one point we ran out of toys for girls, which made us a little sad because unfortunately we could not offer anything to the girls we came across.
This still served as motivation for us to plan a next activity as soon as possible so that we could reward those who were left out.
It was wonderful to see the children's excited faces when they received their gifts. They were all extremely happy.
Luego nos encontramos con un señor que frecuenta mucho nuestra urbanización ya que se dedica a botar basura. Al parecer vive por ahí o se la mantiene por esa zona y conocía a la perfección quiénes eran las personas que más necesitaban recibir esos juguetes.
Nos contó en el proceso que él también ha hecho labor social en esta zona y que inclusive se le habían asignado ciertos recursos para que él pudiera beneficiar a varios hogares con alimentos.
Then we met a man who frequents our urbanization a lot because he is a garbage collector. Apparently he lives or stays in that area and knew perfectly well who were the people who most needed to receive those toys.
He told us in the process that he has also done social work in this area and that he had even been allocated certain resources so that he could benefit several households with food.
Finalmente nos quedamos sin regalos, ya habíamos terminado nuestra labor. Nos hubiera gustado muchísimo contar con más recursos para poder comprar más regalos, pero por lo menos logramos hacer un gran cambio y se pudieron beneficiar muchos niños con los fondos recaudados.
A pesar de que yo no era la que tuvo la iniciativa e hizo la colecta de dinero, me disfruté mucho la experiencia y me alegró el poder estar presente durante la entrega de regalos y brindar mi apoyo para que toda la actividad se diera a cabo.
La vez anterior pintando las caritas de los niños con sus personajes favoritos y esta vez recorriendo todas esas calles de las cuales no tenía conocimiento para encontrar a los niños que más necesitaban esos regalos.
Sin duda algo que me gustaría repetir pronto y ya tengo varias ideas junto a mi compañera para hacer algo lindo para los días de carnaval.
Por supuesto como siempre les digo, todo esto se los estaré compartiendo en su debido momento, por ahora me despido y espero les haya gustado compartir esta experiencia conmigo.
We finally ran out of gifts, we had already finished our work. We would have loved to have had more resources to be able to buy more gifts, but at least we were able to make a big change and many children were able to benefit from the funds raised.
Even though I was not the one who took the initiative and collected the money, I really enjoyed the experience and was happy to be present during the gift giving and to support the whole activity.
Last time painting the children's faces with their favorite characters and this time going through all those streets I didn't know about to find the children who needed those gifts the most.
Undoubtedly something I would like to repeat soon and I already have several ideas with my partner to do something nice for the carnival days.
