"A reader lives a thousand lives before he dies . . . The man who never reads lives only one.”
-George R.R. Martin

I have lived so many lives and I am hoping to live more before I die. What made this possible? Books! Thank you @Kemmyb for inviting me to the Hive book club contest and I will be @dreemsteem and @Jessicaossom to join. Also, everyone is invited to join in the fun.

Some certain fun questions were given to be answered and I can tell that after reading the contest post, the questions are interesting and a way to self evaluate. So here goes my entry.

Do you focus on character development, thoughtful messages, or the level of intrigue a plot generates in you?

I was introduced to reading by my sister and up till today, I will be grateful for that because reading books has helped reshape my life in so many ways. It has changed the way I think, the way I view the world, and improved my writing skills and also added positive moral lessons to my life.

Everyone has different things they look for in a book, for me I focus on the thoughtful messages and life hacks. If I don't get to gain a moral lesson, thoughtful messages or life hacks from a book I don't bother reading the book. Also, I focus on all parts of the book itself, like the writing techniques and styles, how the writer's mind works and most importantly the narrative and descriptive techniques. A writer who is not good at narrating and describing can make its reader lose interest in his or her book. Also the readers won't get to enjoy reading and they won't be able to properly visualize what the writer is talking about or the message he is trying to pass along. So that aspect is very important to me.

What is your favourite time or place to read?

Since I was introduced into reading, I am picky about the places where I read because I get easily distracted. I prefer to read at home and in the office. Those two places are always quiet and calm which enable me to enjoy my reading. Now some people say I like reading in the library, but I can't do that. Instead I will be looking at all the books arranged properly in the shelves and admiring how they are being kept or rather I would go in search of new books and smell them. That's how distracted I can be.

My favorite time of reading during the day. I would have preferred early in the morning, but I am not a morning person and my mornings are always chaotic with routines I have to keep up with. Also, I don't joke with my sleep from 4am to 5am because that is when my sleep is more interesting and deep for me. If I wake up during those hours, I won't be very productive throughout the day.

Do you like to read outdoors, before bed or on the bus or on your way to work?

Reading in public places is a no no for me but reading at home and in my office is reassuring for me. I see people reading on the bus and it makes me wonder how they do it. I love to read before going to bed. It is like a therapeutic ritual for me which makes me fall asleep when due. Reading at night is always the best time for me because it is always quiet and calm considering that most have retired for the day.

Using music to read is also a thing I do and I love it. I prefer to use soft or classical/Celtic music because it helps to relieve me of the tension of the day and helps me to relax. Mostly I listen to Enya and Kenny G songs which I play in the background and read.

What makes you enjoy a book?

When you don't enjoy reading a book, why pick it up in the first place? Before I select a book to read I make sure to read the book description and see if it fits what I like. I enjoy reading books with suspense, action, plot twists, mystery and puzzles. I enjoy reading when a book keeps me anxious for the next page, makes me look forward to what will happen in the next scene and if it is interesting enough not to let me keep the book aside.

Some of my favorite genres are paranormal, supernatural, historical fiction, contemporary romance, romance, crime/mystery, thrillers and horror. These are what I look for in a book or enjoy when reading. If it doesn't have any of these, I don't bother opening the book.

Thanks for the invite.
You explained it all. Lucky you, you're not doing a job which requires you to resume by 5:30 am otherwise you won't certainly be having those 4 am to 5 am morning sleep 🙂
Give me fiction and supernatural types of books to read, especially the ones that leaves you feeling so hungry for the next page.
It's good to read books, the it's good for the brain.

I laughed so hard at this statement because I just tried to imagine the seriousness with which you must have stated this 😂😅. I totally relate.
