English version

Self-esteem: Prelude to love for others

Master Jesus, in his wisdom, knew how human beings think, and beyond all this, he knew their heart, their feelings and therefore knew that human beings like to be treated well, to be seen with respect and treated with consideration. That at the moment of being judged, they should be seen with empathetic eyes, with solidarity and understanding. But he also knew that this same human being, when the time came to judge others, when the occasion came to demonstrate humanism, often forgot his own vulnerability and became the worst of judges. This is why this commandment is still so relevant and important today. This is the origin of the saying: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you" or "Treat others as you would like to be treated".

Now entering into context and taking into consideration the above, when a person has low self-esteem or on the contrary values himself in an exaggerated way, he will always have problems, since having low self-esteem, he will permanently be thinking that the universe and everything around him is conspiring against him. He will be hurt by any word or deed that happens naturally.

We all need to understand that, first and foremost, it is of the utmost urgency to accept and love ourselves as we are, to understand that each personal characteristic is unique and defines and differentiates us as individuals. It is paramount to discover our value in our own being, that we need to get a good connection with ourselves and if we have lost it, to try to reconnect. We cannot be cut off from our self.

I once read that who can give you or take away the beautiful treasure of happiness is that person you see every day when you stand in front of the mirror, if YOU. You are the one who, from your being, decides and procures your happiness, no one else. That is why I recommend that when you look in the mirror you feel, think and say to yourself "I have the gift of life. As long as my lungs have air in them, I possess the most important thing: Life!"

Begin to accept yourself physically, detail every part of your body and be grateful for its good functioning, enjoy and value every internal organ. Thank God for everything you have that makes your life easier, take a breath, relax and rejoice in that blessing.

Until we accept ourselves as we are and love ourselves the way we were created, that smile of contentment will appear, the one that lights up everything around you. The smile that without words will tell everyone that we enjoy inner peace, that we are full of love and spiritual freshness.

My old man used to repeat to my brothers and me that "no one can give what he does not have". We cannot give love when our hearts are full of bitterness, nor can we pretend to receive it from others when we have been unable to offer it or even to show empathy.

Let us reflect the Love we want to see in others.
