Gender Bias

Hello everyone, welcome to my blog.

Beautiful topic to discuss because it is something that has affected our society so badly. "Gender inequality"

One of the challenges we are facing in our society today if traced properly will point down at the issues of gender inequality, when we are discriminated based on our sex, and this can to be seen in our homes, in schools, workplace and the communities at large.

When a child is born into a family the set of toys you are given depends on your gender so boys are exposed to sport and game at their early age while the girls play with barbie toys, singing and dancing this is the root of the gender inequality. We were all raised with the mentally that a lady is only supposed to be in the kitchen while the boys play football and other games, and today you will find out that girls don't have interest in sports all our interest is in the kitchen, how to be a woman and a wonderful wife and mother in the future.
Am not saying that teaching a girl child how to cook and how to become a woman is a bad idea but make it obvious that is only for girls is the problem, so you see some family the boys are not properly trained in doing house chores, they don't even know how to keep their room cleaned just sport.

I grew up in a family where my dad doesn't treat the girls the same way as the boys, so if you are a lady you don't have to do hard work, the hard work is for the boys, so boys were created for hard work, I grew up being a daddy girl, I can only cook clean the house but when it comes to hard work I was not allowed to do them. Biys are allowed to play game while we watch movies and dance.

How did This affected me

I can still remember when I was younger I love sports, I was passionate about it, I wanted to be a footballers, my mom stopped me from even saying that not to talk of going out with the boys to play football, my attention was switched to studying anything clinical, my aunts and uncles never supported my dreams complaining how will be a girl and be playing football, that was how the dream died till today, but you see in other advanced countries female are also involved in sports and their parents are in support of that and they are doing just fine, but here in Nigeria everyone wants to their children to be a doctor, lawyer and CEO nobody will support you if you are a female doing art, sports, drawing they see it as a waste of time which is not supposed to be so.

Female in this part of the world are Cage set of human beings, you are not free, you won't see them much in politics, and so other profession because they society will discriminate you and make you feel less, in some places today women are not allowed to speak they are just to be a good homemaker, the woman are not giving good education but exposed to early marriage to men that are older than their fathers you can see that in the northern part of Nigeria, they see it as a culture so female are limited and deprived of education and adventure of life because of their sex.

In conclusion
My parents didn't have the right knowledge like I have now, I don't want to raise my kids like them. I will allow my children to make their choice while I guide them to their true life, be it male or female, you can be whatever you desire as long as you are determined.

every disappointment is a blessing, I feel you pain over not being allowed to pursue your dreams of sport but I am happy that you had that experience, atleast you won't let it cross over to your children.

The root of this gender discrimination is family, many parents are the ones powering this thing unconsciously, today in the society women are considered less and treated like subjects. Even if they want to partake in certain activities, they are being denied because our parents and cultures have already built the idea that women are weak and incapable of handling certain responsibilities. It is so pathetic, I pray this passes away someday.

I understand and concur with you, the inequality was imbibed from early childhood. There are homes where all children of same gender. You understand that such woukd be exposed equally.

Good piece here

You addressed the root cause in this article. I remember talking with my Aunty one day about a primary schoolmate of mine who later went in hairdressing profession. My Aunty reacted in a way that present the guy as doing an odd job. That's another example of the society conscripting a gender to a particular profession.

Hahah I can imagine the look on her face, we the new generation just need to correct the error by going for what we want and treating others fairly. Thanks for stopping by 🥰

In my perspective, I would say that there is advancement already for gender equality and soon some of our experiences will not be seen among people again.
As said elsewhere, the family unit is the ground from which these biases can be drastically reduced.

In Canada there has been a huge push against barbies for girls and cars for boys. No more pink for girls and blue for boys. Long hair for boys and dresses if they want. Personally I like seeing boys and girls that look like boys and girls. I don't see a problem with buying a doll for a girl or a car for a boy.

However, I believe that each child should be encouraged with what they like. Want to play soccer? Sure. My son wants to play with dolls....a little odd but okay.

Women in politics? Sure...if they are qualified and want to.

Just me I suppose.

thanks for writing, enjoyed the post.
