Contest #60 ~ The Hausa Holiday

avatar

This week ladies of Giving contest #60 is here again and we have two wonderful questions to answer.

Have you been fortunate to experience a holiday
from a religion or culture different than your own?
If so, tell us about it! If not, which would you choose to experience?

I think while I was in Lagos, I have not more than once experienced the Muslim religion and the Yoruba culture holiday and I must say they are always exuberant holidays for these two groups.

You know the in Yoruba's, we can find the Muslims and the Christians, unlike other cultures who have just one religion which is Christianity.

They call on their extended family to gather as one, pray as a family, then the men will go ahead to slaughter ram as many as they can because these groups love eating meat, while the women will start cooking their Amala and Ewedu soup with their peppery soup like it is fondly called and then cook rice and stew

When they are done cooking all kinds of food with the meat served by their husbands, the food and drinks will be served among themselves and also among their neighbours not minding if you are from another religion or culture.

Their ladies will dress in their best attire, decorating their hands and feet with their black chalk.

They play loud music and dance to it, the kids sit around themselves and play, women sit around and talk, and also the men.

Their holiday is always a fun one unlike ours that is most times done low-key and there is always a lot of food to everyone's satisfaction.

The second question says;
LadiesOfHive was founded on the principle of
"women empowering each other."
Do you regularly support other posts in the community?
If not, I ask you to please make an effort to do that each week!
I challenge each of you to upvote and comment

Let us know whom you supported and what you liked about their post!

I think I have done that but I may have forgotten since I was not conscious about it but today, I decided to visit @kaerpediem blog, and here is a link

One of the reasons I loved her post was that it helped me imagine a bit of Greek culture I was told about while in school and I had long time forgotten such culture existed.

Here is my entry to Ladies of Hive Community Contest #60. I invite @glotokens to participate in this contest.

I think another culture who only have one religion and it's Christianity are the Igbos. I have never seen them with Muslim religion before except for Yoruba and Hausa. I have also seen Hausa's Celebration and I do love how they celebrate it especially buying clothes for their young ones and decorating their legs and hands with Laila 😁

I was actually thinking about the name of the thing used in decorating themselves but could not remember that was why I decided to give the name as black chalk.

That is also true, the Igbos do have just one culture.

Thanks for stopping by.

Oh, I like the decorating of hands and feet with black chalk part.
Very intricate and delicate appearing so it must take considerable time to do.
As a social activity, do the women help each other to apply the coloring?

Thanks for sharing @evegrace 🤗
