Little Gestures That Matters A lot

So, guys, I woke up today with nothing in mind to eat other than doing my chores which include fetching water, washing the plates, sweeping my room and the compound as well, and heading out to start the day by visiting the school to confirm my registration. I never knew what today had installed for me other than what I had in my mind.

So to be sure, I did not leave the house late, I decided to start the day early. I woke up pretty early and started by fetching the water, when I was done, I decided to sweep the compound before heading into my room.

While I was sweeping the compound, a neighbour called my attention, I greeted him and after pleasantries, he asked me to wait for him that he wanted to give me something he bought for me yesterday but did not know when I returned.

I was wondering what he got for me and why he would get something for me because I was sure I wasn't the best neighbour anyone would have. I rarely interact with my neighbours because I am not always home and even when I am home, I am always indoors all to myself because I love my privacy or perhaps I don't want issues with anyone.

When he came out, he came out with a good package, I was surprised and I had to ask him why he bought this for me.

He said he was surprised that even though I rarely talk to anyone in the compound, I was able to notice and was the only one who noticed that he and his family wasn't around during the festive period and when he came back I was the only one that asked about him and his family welfare when I didn't see his wife and his kids around.

I was surprised that such a little act as such matters most especially coming from my kind of person who never does such things and I never thought such a little act meant a lot to him. I told him it was nothing as I just did that because I noticed he and his family was not around during the festive period and even after the festive period, his wife and kids did not return to the house.

He said, no act of reaching out to people or kindness is small as long as it is from a genuine heart. I could not reject the gift after had told me the reason why he decided to get it for me. I thanked him and happily ran into the room.

Well, I had no plans of eating breakfast but after what I saw, I changed my mind and after sweeping, I head straight to the supermarket to get something for myself.

And at the end of the day, I came up with a light breakfast that will carry me while I run around. I jammed my fried eggs with the bread he gave and ta-da, I finally had something for breakfast.

Although it is not about the gift he gave but the way he appreciated me got my tummy doing backflip because I wouldn't believe just reaching out to someone could make someone feel special or loved perhaps.

Well, we should always remember to take the time out to reach out to others even though we feel they are doing well. We shouldn't just think about ourselves but we should learn to think about one another no matter the demons we are fighting.

I wouldn't have known the challenges he and his family were going through if I hadn't asked about his welfare and he wouldn't have opened up to me if I hadn't asked. Although he is older than I am but I was able to talk to him about the little I knew and how he could help himself out of the challenge.

Reach out to someone no matter the demons you are fighting. We are all fighting demons so your act matters.
