LOH Community Contest #86 ~ Poverty At Its Peak

For some reason, I feel I should answer both questions for this week's prompt but thinking about the first question, I realized I might not have anyone or be sure of anyone I can call when I am in trouble, not because I do not have people or friends who would answer me when I call them in times of trouble but because over time, I have learned life the hard way and always figure my life my own way when I am faced with challenges and do not like disturbing anyone so it doesn't make anyone feel I owe them my life for saving me during my trouble days. I have had my fair share of such scenarios, so I don't think I am ready to let such happen to me again.

Fast forward to the second question that says;

What is the most extreme example of poverty you have ever seen?

A few months after my father's death, my family decided to come back to our hometown for his funeral although we had no plans of staying here but unfortunately, my maternal parent would not let my mom and us go back because we had no one else to down there, so we decided to stay put in the hometown.

Unfortunately, we had no house of our own because my dad never built one since he never visits the village.

My mom was seriously ill during that period, a sickness that kept her bedridden for two years and we had no money coming in from anyone. Everybody we went to told us they had their own issue and couldn't help, my siblings were still in nursery class and also had some school issues that needed to be settled, combined with the fact that feeding once or even twice a day was a difficult task.

We could stay for two days and not have something good to eat because things were not going fine and my mom needed food and drugs to keep her surviving. So that my family's misery would end, I had to go and do a job as a house girl so I could have money to send to my family for feeding, my sibling's education, and my mom's illness.

I guess that was the most extreme example of poverty I saw, even though I saw more before that time and after, this experience never left my memory in a hurry.
