DIY Space Model with My Son

▶️ Watch on 3Speak

I don't know if it was only me or every kid dreams of visiting moon and escaping the gravitational pull in childhood.

Besides gravitational pull, I used to find slowing down of time quite fascinating. If you have watched Interstellar then you will get it.

My son who is 5 years old, also takes a great deal of interest in Space.

One of the reason that he was over the moon when Space Week announced in his school. All days were jam-packed with activities.

On Monday, he wore a rocket shirt to school.

On Tuesday, he enjoyed a lot answering questions related to planets.

On Wednesday, he watched a Space movie which I don't know anything about but he was happy when he came back home.

On Thursday, it was presentation day of another class.

On Friday, it was project day to which he looked forward the most.

A day before, we worked on the project. He can't use scissors properly so I did all the cutting and let him do other stuff like pasting and painting and we strictly followed all his ideas and imagination.

Idea

Astronaut M visits planet Mars to meet his alien friend, Vector.

This was totally his idea.

Materials Used

  • Cardboard Box
  • White thick paper sheet
  • Aluminium Foil
  • Extra Cardboard pieces
  • Paints

hive_dividers-04.png

Process

  • Cardboard box has 6 sides. I cut three sides as you can see in the picture.

IMG_20221026_151946.jpg

  • Then I wrapped remaining structure with white sheet and started painting the walls black.

IMG_20221031_195231.jpg

  • My son helped me in the painting. He made galaxies with me and he loved sprinkling stars with white paint.

IMG_20221026_160507.jpg

He was getting edgy when I took out purple, red and gray paints. But when I showed him how these colors together can make galaxies then he couldn't stop making them with me.

Then we cut out round shapes from extra cardboard sheets. Made Earth, Moon and Jupiter.

IMG_20221026_161302.jpg

When it was time to paint Jupiter, he told me to make the storms. I didn't even remember Jupiter had storms.

IMG_20221031_200129.jpg

We also made a small satellite with aluminium foil. My son suggested the name - MINIAC so ofcourse we had to go with it.

IMG_20221026_190151.jpg

I let him stick every thing with double tape on the sky we made earlier.

Then it was turn to work on the Mars surface. I spread the aluminium sheet on the ground. I deliberately made some impressions and left a lot of creases in the sheet. Since it was going to be the ground so I wanted to create some texture.

IMG_20221026_164906.jpg

After fixing the sheet, we painted it with a hint of Red, Burnt and Raw Umber shades. Since it didn't need detailing so I let my son do the painting.

IMG_20221026_181802.jpg

I crumbled some small pieces of aluminium foil to make rocks and hills and painted them as well.

IMG_20221026_182020.jpg

Then we made an alien, an astronaut, a flag and fixed them all with toothpicks in the rocks.

IMG_20221026_190049.jpg

And oh yes, my son had a UFO sharpener, we fixed it as well behind the alien.

IMG_20221026_190205.jpg

The project was done and we were happy the way it looked. It was simple but my it was a great learning process for both of us. It was great activity which helped us spend quality time with each other.

I loved it, I always wanted to do this type of projects and make short films using only images, here in Venezuela we don't usually do crafts or projects like that, although I see them a lot in the movies, every time there is a science fair, there is always a child who has something like that. I really like it I think I'll do it when I have time and that way I cross something off the list of things to do ☺️

What kind of crafts you do in Venezuela?

Yes, in every science fair, there's such a project. Probably, that's why my son wanted something like that.

Please do share if you create something and tag me. I would love to check it out. 😀

Here they are generally more cultural projects, depending on the class you can focus on one thing or another. That is, if the project is sent by Geography, then you make a model of the geography of your state or city, If it is Biology you talk about the fauna and flora that are in your environment, if it is about history or culture, you can do it about the areas oil companies, livestock areas, natural heritage...

In general, it's fine, it's nice, and besides, there are also projects more focused on science, like lighting an LED with a lemon and that kind of thing. But, in Venezuela, bullying is practically a national sport, so children do not risk (when they already have a certain degree of awareness) to carry a model with a caricature theme or anything that is different 🤔

I don't know, but I find it quite interesting, because on the one hand it makes us be a little less open-minded to avoid long-term rejection and on the other hand it makes us have a little tougher skin when it comes to receiving criticism.

One way or another, thanks for answering my comment and making me think a bit ☺️

Be careful when supporting this user

You are indirectly supporting a group of scammers who are expanding their network on Hive.

Event-Horizon & Huzaifanaveed are so-called country representatives on Steemit. Which is to mislead hundreds of newbies about steemit by luring the highest rewards from the steemit team. They have well recognized the separation and centralization of the platform but for the lure of rewards, they thought of staying there. They built their own communities, invited innocent people to Steemit and forced them not to join the Hive platform or they wouldn't support them.

They imposed Club 100 and Burnsteam 25 rules on his people. They asked newcomers for beneficiary rewards for their accounts, They ask for the delegations to their accounts to get support from the steemit team. So-called booming support, steamcurators, and their high-value accounts.

They started cheating on the steemit platform by creating fake accounts to get more rewards.

Once they succeed in their venture on Steemit, they start flocking to the Hive blockchain to fool the hive community. For the past three months, some idiots have been trying to spread their network over the hive by implementing fake accounts that started plagiarizing the platform. The OCD community stops supporting intro posts until they introduce their on borders. So they join their accounts and start creating quality content to gain fame so they can create fake accounts in their name.

Examples:

https://hive.blog/@iffatilyas
https://hive.blog/@allahnawaz03
https://hive.blog/@alihussain077
https://hive.blog/@malikusman1
https://hive.blog/@drtipu
https://hive.blog/@drhive75
https://hive.blog/@uop

As we have caught them, more and more users from their networks are joining the Hive platform, Event-horizon and Huzaifa Naveed are among them. Which can be seen here:

https://steemit.com/hive-136998/@stmpak.wit/purpose-to-make-stmpak-wit-first-steem-witness-from-pakistan

The reason they joined the Hive platform is that they doesn't like the centralization of the steemit platform which they realized after working there for 2 years and fooling thousands of newbies who are now stuck on steemit. . But but but the real reason was that they were fed up with the Club 100 rule and raised their voice against it and the Steemit team stopped upvoting their content. Now they had lost the high-value upvotes so they came here to build a new network.

https://steemit.com/steem/@steemcurator01/ri9biu

Repeating ::: Please be careful when supporting @event-horizon and @huzaifanaveed.

They are not newbies who don't know about the platform. They are pro scammers from steemit. Event Horizon has been on the platform since 2018 and Huzaifa Naveed has been on Steemit since 2021. They are the representative of the country and they know the platform better than newbies, don't you think some other newbies can get a thousand times better benefits than them from your Newbies Initiative? Newbies who have joined the platform without any knowledge are more deserving people to get the benefits of the Newbies Initiative than these pro-scammers and reward farmers pretending to be newbies.
