Ferris Wheel in Acrylics

(Edited)

There's so much effort that goes into each blog. For me the whole process is roughly divided into three parts.

  • Brainstorm Ideas
  • Content Creation
  • Post Compilation

It took me three days to publish this post. Each step took me one whole day to complete because life happens all the time.

I usually post my paintings on Sunday, but I have a different idea for that day. Hence, an early painting post.

I was organizing my art supplies when I realized that I have never used bright and bold colors. I always go for dark moody theme or natural elements, i.e., water, earth, fire.

At that moment, I decided to paint something colorful. I was browsing Pinterest and came across a colored Ferris wheel, originally posted on Flickr. It instantly qualified for my next reference picture for painting.

Let me show you how I made it.

Material Used

  • Sketchbook, medium-grained paper
  • Acrylic Paint Colors
  • Pencil
  • Tape

Process

I did the usual preparation of the painting medium - taped the corners.

Painted the whole paper in sky blue by mixing Cobalt Blue and Titanium White. Painted clouds with white like in the previous painting.

Next, I made a rough sketch of the wheel. I am new to perspective drawing but to me it looked like a 3-perspective picture. Whereas I am still learning 1-perspective drawing techniques.

Anyways, I still drew it with my own little understanding. When it looked reasonable then I decided to paint.

I chose bright colors for cabins like in the reference picture.

Colored the wheel with Cold Gray and highlighted it with Burnt Umber to give the sunlight effect.

Used Green to paint the main supports of the wheel and thin black pointer for individual wheel's support. Highlighted them all with Burnt Umber.

That's pretty much all that I did.

Constructive Feeback is appreciated.
