Turn on the Light

Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light.

- Professor Albus Dumbledore, Harry Potter

Growing up, I couldn't comprehend the deep and thoughtful message this quote carries. For this reason, I think it's a good idea to re-read books sometimes. Each time, you'll find yourself reading from a different perspective.

When I re-read the Harry Potter Series nearly after a decade, it felt that I could resonate better with characters.

I think human brain is a funny thing. We think that we have no control on our thoughts and general thinking process but on the contrary, we do have the power to mold things the way we want.

The way we see things is the source of the way we think and the way we act.

- The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People

Everyone's life is full of ups and downs but very few people master the art of smiling through the toughest of times. How do they do that? They know the difference between How things are and How things should be.

They don't dwell in the past but work on moving forward towards the right direction.

There is a very good example in the aforementioned book. It goes somewhat like that...

Suppose you want to go to a place, but you have a wrong map. No matter how hard you try by carefully following the instructions of the map or maintain a positive attitude, you will always end up at the wrong location. Until or unless you get the right map and realize where you are and where you should be.

Similarly, if you want to be happy then you can't blindly look for happiness at a wrong place, instead you need to know how you can find it and work only on that.

Turn on the light.

Get the right map.

Our mind is like a map. Never think of it as a territory. We have different routes(perspectives) in our map(mind). We just need to find the right one and shouldn't consider one route eternal and mold our thinking and reactions according to that.

Thank you.

It is very hard to smile through tough times because that is usually the last thing on your mind.
The map analogy is very soothing and relatable. Because during tough times, we are so consumed with and focused on our present dilemma that we usually never feel the need to take a step back and re-analyze.

Can I just say, the pictures are amazing! I'm not big on photography because I don't know much about it but I didn't think such stunning pictures could be captured with a Redmi phone.
I use Redmi 10C.
Do you mind helping me out with some tips on how to take good photos using it?

You are right, smiling through the tough times is a hard thing but we can atleast try to not lose our sanity and strive for making things better. Merely sulking and complaining won't make things right.

I love this map analogy as well. It was a light bulb moment for me for I never thought from that perspective before.

Decent pictures can be taken from phone's camera. One only needs to know how to utilize lights and in my case, I tweak manaual settings of Pro Mode in my camera. I am a complete noob as well but I read a lot of photography tips on Internet. Things like how to adjust ISO, shutter speed, aperture in different lights and kind of photo you want. Google this stuff and practice, I'm sure you will be able to click decents pictures.

Good morning, life is something very beautiful, not everything is rosy as many think, everyone has had to live good times and live difficult times, but as you say, we must focus on not staying in the past but seek to move in the right direction.

You are absolutely right, until we find the right map, we will always end up at the wrong destination.

The words from the movie are really beautiful and they are facts.
