The Future Of Hive Is In YOUR Hands...

The Future Of Hive Is In YOUR Hands...EverNoticeThat httpshive.blogevernoticethat.jpg

Lately I've been on a Hive kick, fueled by an inner drive to write articles about the platform during the troubling crypto times that we live in. Maybe it's concern about the future, as after almost 6 years here (in July), I've taken on a true sense of ownership of the place that only comes from the passion of a true believer.

I may not have as much stake as I once did due to an ill family member, but you damn well better believe I see myself as much as an owner as a whale with 100X more tokens than me. Because after all, I've been here longer than some of them and had to make do with a much smaller starting slot, while enduring the same trials and tribulations as they did.

I was here in 2016 (although not a member yet) lurking and learning as much as I could about this brand-spanking-new place on the blockchain. I lived through the Ned era, and the huge jump in crypto prices (who doesn't remember late 2017?), the Polish downvoting gangs and the great schism that led to what we are today: Citizens of Hive nation.

And despite it all, I'm not going anywhere.

Task and Jongo will have to drag me out of here kicking and screaming while my fingers dig deep furrows into the walls, before they give up and say "OK, you passed the test. You can stay." :)

This place has always felt like the old-fashioned Amish barn raising that I'd seen as a kid (we live in Amish Country). Everyone working together for the common good, and no one was ever made to feel that they were alone.

Why Am I Writing All Of This?

Remember that scene in The Matrix (my favorite movie) , where Neo is talking to those who sense there's something different about the world and that change is in the air? That's how I feel right now.

For those of you that are new here or just passing by, and wondering why many of us are infused with passion about this place; this post is for you. Years before the formation of its predecessor, Steemit, I wondered if someone would find a way to combine blogging and crypto.

Bitcoin had just been created as the first crypto token by some dude named Satoshi Nakamoto, and instantly things clicked for me and I knew we were on to something BIG. Notice I say "we" as even back then I felt involved, and couldn't stop talking about this grand new thing that I felt would eventually change the world.

And I still feel that way today.

I won't make this post too long (as I am wont to do), since I'm sleep-deprived and trying to re-adjust my body clock, but I just have to get this out.

The Future Of Hive Really Is In Your Hands...

Those of you who feel the same as I do about Hive know what I'm talking about. That sense of ownership that comes from appreciating the possibilities right here in front of us.

I don't care if you have 1 $HIVE or 50,000, you're an OWNER! Act like it!

If you see #Threads aren't hopping, jump in and share. Notice that well-written post that has no comments or upvotes? Dive in and engage. Answer new user questions and be willing to reblog great content instead of just thinking about "me, me, me."

Token price dropping? See that as a possible opportunity to buy (not financial advice of course! Do your own due diligence!). We need strong hands around here who can recognize the swings in prices as cycles and have a long-term outlook.

I started my #500CommentChallenge because I saw so many good posts with no comments. No one had to tell me to do it. I saw potholes on Hive Street and started filling them in.

See what I mean?

Take the initiative, steer that ship. After all, it's yours! :)

Let's treat Hive like a new house in a great neighborhood that we're trying to sell. Hop in and help pick up the place so that we can always put our best foot forward.

Got it?

See, you can't fake this kind of passion, it's real. I came from the worlds of Blogger and Twitter, where you didn't own your content, and were essentially working for someone else. As The Podfather Adam Curry once said; "If its free, then you're the product. After all, I have No Agenda. :)

After years of blogging over there, I was getting tired of creating content that I didn't own. So when the chance to be a part of blogging+crypto came along, I lurked for a year and then jumped in.

And I've never looked back.

So. That's me and that's why I'm here on Hive. Hopefully this has given you a little taste of how us OG blockchain buddies think and why we're so passionate (there's that word again!) about Hive.

Repeat after me: "I HAVE A SENSE OF OWNERSHIP ON HIVE!" Go ahead, say it out loud, because guess what? You do. Pitch in, get involved, and if you're not a member yet: Join Us.

This is cool! I will try to dig deeper unto this initiative of yours as I spend one to two hours a day in Hive lately.

Is this a per month or per week target. I suck at keeping the engagement high these past few days hahah.

Thanks. It was intended as a one-off endurance run to leave 500 comments over a ten-day period which ended successfully on Sunday.

I met a lot of great people and it was a blast sprinkling thoughtful comments on lonely, but deserving, posts.

The last few days of the challenge, I pulled all-nighters which threw my body clock out of whack and which I'm trying to re-set.

But trust me, it was an absolute labor of love and proof that it can indeed be done. #ILoveHive!

In future, I may do a lighter version of the challenge; say 100 comments over 5 or 10 days. Thank you so much for stopping by and showing your support, but I'm so pooped (can barely keep my eyes open), that I'm heading straight to bed and will respond to any new comments when I awaken. Sleepyhead is signing out. :)

This is great!! I love it! I'm adding it to my to-do Notion board. I'm not sure if 10 days is the right time frame for me, but I'd love to join you and promote your innitiative :)

Thanks for the inspiration

Thanks Alex. Overall though I'm surprised with the lack of response to this post and had expected more but it is what it is. Thanks for being one of the few though. :)

That's OK.

Sometimes good quality material gets lost and under-rewarded or under-engaged. It is what it is. This place is not perfect, but it's way better than company-owned social media. True hardcore, long-term Hivers will find stuff like this and interact honestly with you. There are some really great people I've had the chance of interacting with.

I have not been here as long as you and I may not have a whole lot of HP, but I do have skin in the game, And I'm doing everything I can to grow my stake to make my vote count towards governance, DHF proposals, to reward content that deserves to be rewarded, and to downvote abuse. In the past year I've removed all Dlease delegations because I don't feel delegated HP through that platform is being used correctly and I've also removed my delegations to large curation accounts as I feel many of them can be biased and leave awesome content like this under-rewarded. It's a small contribution, but it's real, it's mine, and it's helping steer this ship.

And you just touched on why I'm still here almost six years later. Warts and all, Hive is still the best place to be on the blockchain! :)

I have a sense of ownership on hive.
Wow, seems you are speaking to me directly. I recently made it a point of duty everyday to comment on atleast 15 hive accounts and and i hope to increase the number soon.
Together we can help hive grow and also help each other grow too.

Thank you, I was trying to write in a more conversational style and am glad that it worked. Yes, when you contribute to Hive, you do develop that sense of ownership which is so valuble to longevity in a place such as this, and doing what you love allows growth to happen in an organic and natural way. :)

I've dabbled in a lot of different crypto projects, and in my opinion Hive has the strongest community of them all. You can really tell when a project is created just to earn a quick buck, or when it actually has heart and soul. People have abandoned Hive for months or years and then returned... it's kind of like that ex you can't stop thinking about

This reminds me of a guy on Twitter that I recently spoke to. He and his wife had an amicable breakup, but still hang around each other and he can't stop talking about her. I told him: "Admit it, you love her." And he did.

It almost seems like their separation was based on the flimsiest of reasons and that they are trying to create a situation for getting back together without losing face.

The ones that return to Hive realize that there is nothing quite like this place to be found anywhere on the blockchain. They return to the welcoming arms of the community and with a warm embrace. That's Hive, and here, I would expect nothing less. :)

If you see #Threads aren't hopping, jump in and share. Notice that well-written post that has no comments or upvotes? Dive in and engage. Answer new user questions and be willing to reblog great content instead of just thinking about "me, me, me."

Those posts and threads won't upvote themselves, so we need to fill in the gaps and support our fellow Hivers who have shown initiative.

Besides reblogging content, we can promote it via LeoThreads and whatever other platforms we use (espcially D.Buzz and LikeTu).

Retention is a major concern for any platform, but especially for Hive. If a Hiver is fresh off the registration page, we need to show them some love with engagement (upvote optional).

As owners-- whether we have 1 HP or 1M HP-- there are 2 things we should be doing:

  1. Show up, and show up regularly-- that's 80% to 90% of the battle right there;
  2. Do something-- the remaining 10% to 20% can take on any of many forms.

Not that we want to turn our Hive time into a job, but we need to get the most bang for our HIVE/HP/HBD as we can. For many people (including me), this means better time management.

I know it doesn't pay to be on Web2 platforms, but are there reasons for us to use them if we never opened up (or we deleted) accounts there?

Until more people realize what you and I both know (and I just posted about in this blog post), we'll just have to keep plugging away engagement-wise and building community. True owners step in without having to be told, and that's exactly what we're doing here to help ensure a bright future for Hive.
