When It Comes To Crypto, I Have No Time For Small Minds

If You've been following my blog for awhile you've heard me describe my region as a "crypto desert." This area seems to be Luddite central when it comes to almost anything to do with cryptocurrency, with some people likening us to some kind of strange cult.

I can still remember when I was trying to spread the word back in 2010 about the free Bitcoin faucet where you could get 5 tokens with just an email address. That's how I got my very first crypto, and wanted to share the information with others.

Of course, the first thing I ran into was that some people thought it was some illegal counterfeiting operation, while others were wary just because it was free. A year later with Satoshi now in the news, that still wasn't enough to move anyone to take action, even more so when the price began to swing.

Remember when BTC hit $100 and then swung back? That freaked a lot of people here out who's simple minds saw that as the ride being over, stick a fork into it. However, I was confident that this new thing called the blockchain had too much utility to be ignored, and would actually end up changing everything, and it has. But twelve years ago, that was a tough sell to people lacking the vision to imagine a future filled with the endless possibilities that the blockchain offers.

Small minds think alike.

Part of the reason many miss out on the opportunities right in front of them is they're walking around with blinders on and they don't even know it. The ones that make it are those with the ability to construct a future in their minds and the willingness to craft a plan and take ACTION to make it happen.

You can literally come here with nothing, setup an account on LeoFinance, and over time build a future for yourself on the blockchain. Many have done it, and many more will. But others will never have the gumption to break out of the financial Faraday cage they’ve built around themselves which prevent new ideas and opportunities form reaching their brain stem.

I long ago decided to surround myself with like-minded people whose imagination is lit and ready to receive whatever bounty is on offer when Fortune knocks at our door. There's too much information out there now about the life-changing aspects inherent in crypto.

In 2009, nobody knew about the blockchain and you had an excuse. Now, you don't. You either get it and are willing to take action, or you won't. That's what separates the wheat from the chaff, and my time is better spent with those that have ears to hear and eyes that see.

Now that's not to say that I've completely given up on getting the word out, which is one of the reasons why I blog. It's exciting to see someone take action and make a transformative choice which can change their lives. And that why I believe in the power of crypto. If you've found this post through my Twitter account or via a Google search, take a moment and make the choice to join Hive or LeoFinance, it just might change your life.

Yes, @EverNoticeThat, I've sometimes bumped into the same kind of reactions, ranging from fears to purposely cultivated ignorance. Although now we're here, in El Salvador, at the other endpoint of that spectrum, where many shops next door do accept BTC. So hopium is still alive ;-)

Another thought that crossed my mind while reading you is that, paradoxically and to certain extent, I prefer to face people who're plainly indifferent or hostile towards the blockchain's disruptive potentials, than to try to build something with today's "10X fanboys", who're "in crypto" the way Wall Street traders were in the late 80's: to move fast, and break/improve nothing.

Watching so many people and crypto capitalizations breathing eurythmically with the Fed interest rate decisions make me think that if Satoshi Nakamoto is still alive, he probably sees the BTC fate as a doomed one.

I know exactly what you're talking about and they type of unrealistic, gushing fanboyism some affect as well. It reminds me of two individuals (who shall not be named) that posted "crypto lifestyle videos" when I first joined what later became Hive. They stayed at fancy hotels and gave off a message that crypto=quick riches and a movie star lifestyle.

When I talked to people it was more about the usefulness of the blockchain itself, and how my love for blogging had been restored after arriving. The blockchain freed me from Blogger where I didn't own my content and was subject to arcane hoop-jumping when my work was stolen.

There were also accounts of people in developing countries (and right here at home) uplifiting themselves (and others) through their own efforts and with the support of the community.

I can still remember the feeling I had when I found the Satoshi and the Bitcoin forum back in 2009 and thought: "OMG, this is going to change EVERYTHING!"

That crypto represents the future and that nothing would ever be the same again. It must be what it was like watching Steve Jobs and Steve Wozniak popularize the first personal computers because they had the vison to blaze a path forward that others (Xerox) had given up on.

That's how I feel about crypto.

Respects for your explorer's mind - not everyone has landed on the Bitcoin forum in 2009, less people among them have grasped the relevance of that contribution, and even less have acted accordingly to convert that once in a lifetime opportunity into personal wealth & collective good.

One of the dimensions that make me love Hive, and try to promote it as much as I can, is how we've here, in a way, preserved that pioneers' mystic, through a blockchain that's reinventing itself several times per year and of which the backbone is a network of full nodes that have never needed "institutional money" to be set up and kicking. I see it as the most robust blockchain based social platform (even if more steps towards privacy practices would allow it to reach the next level).

I believe we'll get there bit by bit. But I'm excited about what I see happening in your country. I'm sure you know there are powerful people who don't want your country (and leader) to succeed at what they're doing with crypto.

That's why I hope they stay the course, We're pulling for you and wish the people of El Salvador the very best. Godspeed! :)

Thanks for your wishes!! I intend to publish more articles around the context here, and pro-BTC initiatives.

Probably it's wishful thinking, but I hope that whoever or whatever is Satoshi Nakamoto, in case our country would be financially under attack (more or less like Greece back in 2010 and the CDS based decision from a handful of hedge funds to nuke the State's credit ratings), we'd see a part of the "genesis funds" move, as a sign of the true Bitcoiners' Community uniting to counter the financial system 1.0 sabotage strategies 😇.

No, I don't :)). I was not in crypto back then... I get your point, the market is full with small minds.

I was so excited about crypto and "got it" immediately. I couldn't understand why some people in my locality refused to signup for 5 free Bitcoin. If it didn't go anywhere, they've lost nothing, but with them, it was always a no-go.

Years later, I realized that this knowledge was generally going to be absorbed by those willing to receive it. But in those early days it was like a light went on for me. It was so obvious. Then when my work wqas pilfered on Blogger, I wondered if it was possible to combine crypto and blogging, and here we are. :)

Amazing that you were able to participate in a free Bitcoin faucett and get 5 Bitcoin. Value builds slowly within projects, and time passes quickly, so those who bought Bitcoin 10 years ago are reaping the rewards of their decision then to hold something of value.
