Like Riding a Bike

I’m happy to report that riding a bike is in fact like riding a bike.

I haven’t owned nor ridden a bike in near 10 years I think. The last bike I had was my moms old one and as I moved to the city centre, the bike was stolen within a week and I didn’t buy another.

Now that we live outside the city and it’s several kilometres to the nearest store, I thought it reasonable to have a bike. When I’m home alone, I don’t have a car at my disposal and might just starve to death.

I wanted a cute and simple bike with only one gear, which is quite enough for these flatlands and just popping by the store. I’m not about to be all spandexed out and riding like a lunatic, I wanna look cute and serene while biking.

It took over a month from ordering the bike for it to arrive, and even then it was missing the very crusial handlebar, so I felt like I missed half of the riding season already before getting to ride my cute ladylike bike. But we are finally here and all intact.

A basket in the front was a must for me and I don’t know if it’s that or some internal GPS on the bike but I ended up straight to the liquer store on my first proper ride! With the destination and the great views along the way, I’d say the bike is a success!

I usually change it to “it’s like falling on a bike” in case the other person doesn’t know how to ride. 🤪

Hi @eveuncovered.

You look more elegant with that beautiful bike. The existence of a basket adds to the sweetness. In my opinion, it is more than the function of a basket on a bicycle. You are really good at making choices and choosing a bike that suits your taste and where you live.

From the photo you shared, with the beautiful scenery around it, it looks very pleasant and you are cycling on a quiet road, it looks like having a private road, you really own the road.

I was tempted to buy flowers too but everything is blooming in nature so that’s enough 😁

You know I was just thinking about Amsterdam and a bike seemingly being the main transportation method there :D

And I know, it sounds weird to not have ridden a bike for so long but I lived in the city centre and everything I regularly visited was within a 5-10 minute walk, would take more time to chain the bike on to something than to walk there.

Ymm yes those mudguards, very carefully selected 😅 ”Cute, 1-gear, has a basket and white tyres, in my price range aka cheap when it comes to bikes. I’ll take it!”

There is nothing more annoying on the roads to us car drivers than MAMILs

😂 AMEN! No sense of self protection but all the arrogance. I have this policy in traffic that when I’m the smaller one, I make sure I’m not in the way, because it doesn’t matter who is technically right if you are dead because a truck didn’t stop at the crosswalk that you walked to assuming it would stop because tHosE aRe The RuLes!

Middle aged men in Lycra! Ha! We have an epidemic of it. And electric scooters now too.
