Wheat grows green...It's only when its ready to harvest when it goes brown.

I’d say it’s more like yellow than brown when it’s ready for harvest :) Barley will turn a similar colour closer to harvest too.

Yep, spent my fair share of time surrounded by kilometre after kilometre of wheat fields...Golden is a nice way to define it.
