Back to the drawing board

avatar

Long long time ago I got myself a nice drawing pad. Because I wanted to draw a bit better than I used to. I always liked to doodle some nonsense shapes and I admired on youtube all the painting videos.
My turn - I thought.

Well.. much easier said than done.
After some getting used to the digital toy I started to draw simple things. Kitties, funny veggies, some of you might remember those from last year. Then I dropped the drawing due to lack of time.

Months has passed and I kept thinking of getting back to what I liked. But I was tired of the fat cats (sorry kitties), I wanted something more. Especially after seeing all the amazing art here and going thought hundreds of images on Pinterest (don't even go there, Pinterest is evil!).

Nop, I am not even close to that, but I do realize it is a long process and many hours of practicing, practicing and practicing. Many images drawn from reference, photographs, and back to basics. And no, it is not today.

Trying new things.

After another Pinterest session I wanted to try something different that I normally would do. The clean lines and edges. Strong colours and very simple injects. Just cause why not right?
Oh boy... it looked so simple and so cool on someone else drawings.

So of course I got fed up eventually and decided to just try different tools and options. Knowing your toy is a part of the process right?
I made a cool blue blob and I kind liked how it looked like a dark, stormy cloud.... and then it just went to this:

houses storm.jpg

Here is the original cloud:

Okay then... lets continue...

And again a simple house :)

And some more clouds and that was it.

Learning basics

Right... let try to draw a face then!

Well, was that a disaster or what!?. Out of proportions, with no character and even the eyes looked like from two different people. No, I don't have any picture because I threw it away.

Fine.. time to look for some simple teaching tutorial. I grabbed pencil and paper at first and it was somehow faster and started to do when they do. Step by step...
I think we are getting somewhere :)

eye.jpg

Then I took the tablet and did it all over again. Eye by eye. Trying to make face out of it, which was still pretty much a disaster... but one thing at the time.

Now this one I like!
I think we are getting somewhere!

Capture.JPG

Of course drawing the other eye is still a challenge. They just do not want to look the same! YET. So I cheated a bit and copied it. I will f*** draw that face or I dunno what! Eventually.

I had this image in my head of a girl with curly hair. That was supposed to be it. But I got stuck. Which means it is time to open Pinterest and learn hot to draw curly hair that look like hair and finish the drawing.

Damn! Even nose looks like a nose!

face colours unfinished.jpg

The first image is earlier version of this one as I was trying different colours before I did the rest of the face.

Looking for my style

Which is so hard, but when I just want to draw anything, this is what I usually come up with.
I guess that's the closest to what I could call my style. Because you see (as I was replying to another user today), I like all kinds of styles and I would love to be able to create in every single one of them.
I love and admire here on Hive all the comic characters and digital portraits. I love the freedom and lightness of watercolors. Even when done digitally.
And I admire all those pencil and ink pens sketches than are only in black. Both with very precise likes and edges and those wild ones.
I want them all! :D

So yea... This where I get the wild, strong lines and the fun coloring it.

pink flower.jpg

I kept it to finish it... somehow. When the right time comes :)

Stuff from the past

Some of the fat kitties and other stuff I used to draw. And I probably will again, cause I had the most fun with them.

Criticism

Lastly, whoever managed to read to the end (or just looked at pictures and laughed) and feels like leaving some comment, don't hold it back. I know I have a lot to learn. So any word of criticism of what went wrong will be more than welcome. This how we learn, right?

(Just don't hit to hard or I will shut down and curl under the blanket and cry. Dust will cover the tablet and I will never even think of picking up anything with colour again. My life will be colourless and miserable.)

From now on it can only be better, right?
I hope...

WOW. it's great to see you are here with your drawings now. Digital drawing becomes more interesting and easy every day. As you learn brushes ... it's not as fun as traditional drawing. but you always have a big palette and brushes. is seen as art then let's do it. and it's great to have a drawing tablet. I'm drawing on the phone screen. it's boring. congratulations dear friend for these quick drawings.

Thanks!
I wish to paint with real paints and paper, but this can be messy. The tablet is better this way.
I still like the real real effect. One thing at the time :)

You have hidden talent which I don’t have at all! I can’t draw so I am quite afraid of drawing pads and colour pencils!

These are great expressions of your inner world of imagination! How I wish I could draw and paint!

It is very hidden!
Pad was scary for me too. So many things you don't know or where to look for. But.... it is all learnable :)

Like everyone is saying, was surprised to see your drawings. They are really good 👌
Specially eyes. Eyes emit lot of emotions. Everything right and wrong eye will spoil the show. But your sketches of eyes are fantastic 👌
Keep going. All the best 😊

Thank you!
I think everyone is skilled. Just needs a lot of practice.

I like to use pencil too. It feel more real. But on the pad it is easier to erase mistakes and go back :p

I'm still trying to learn the pens. I wanted to drawing a cliff. Birds are so amateur 😂 I wanted to draw someone on the edge of the cliff. But I guess I can't draw. I'm still working on the picture.

Any start is a good start. And it does looks like a cliff.
Oh I am not even gonna show my first tries with the tablet :D
The worst thing for me was to figure out which brushes work or not. Still figuring out :)

I correctly understood that all these drawings are yours?
If so, the drawings are lovely!
And you have talent!
I also liked the text of your post, my advice: try to write !!!!!!

But I was tired of the fat cats (sorry kitties),

Haha that's precious :D

Amazing how much progress you've shown here. The clouds are great, I love the stormy atmosphere.
The flower is amazing! Love the sketchy style.
However, the snowman and the (not fat) cat is my very favorite xD
