Bits of paradise - Quinta da Regaleira, Portugal.

Quinta da Regaleira towers 1.jpg

I have visited Quinta da Regaleira a few times already and each time it amazes me. Of course the impressions was the strongest the first time, but with every next visit I still discover something I didn't see. Maybe it wasn't there the last time, or I didn't notice it. There is so many paths, caves, narrow stairs it almost feels impossible to be in every of those places in one go. You do get a map at the entrance to keep track, but most of the times it is just "walk ahead where it looks nice" :).

Why didn't I take the usual photos of buildings you may ask.
One because I like the unusual ones, and two because there were o many people that it would look very messy.
I like contrasting bits. Less obvious details.
And three - there is plenty of those online if you drop the name into google search. Why not something else then?

Another secret passage, thick walls and stairs only to come in another level filled with plants, statues and more paths to discover.

The best time to visit the gardens i spring or summer when everything i bursting with live and thousands of flowers welcome you on every corner.
Of course most people think the same and the place i filled with tourist!

Small weeds, ferns and mosses grow everywhere. They cover rocks walls, and old branches. The high humidity and frequent rains help here. The place is much more humid than the nearby areas.

And hen you manage to find some clearance, you might see Castelo dos Mouros on top of the mountain. A place I still didn't see from up close.

hello @ewkaw. I am absolutely agree about this

One because I like the unusual ones, and two because there were o many people that it would look very messy.

I often experience these two things when I go somewhere. Wants to find an unusual object and really focus on it, but the crowd often takes away from the moment. But what power do we have to prohibit people because this is a public space and inevitably we sometimes have to really wait for the right time. Blessing

love the ferns that grows on top of the tree branches.
I definitely will miss that one, but you manage to spot it, and took a great shot.

They are great, aren't they :)
And they were everywhere! Small little fern leave popping from all kinds of places. Looked really cool.

That's some neat architecture. I like your decision to not take the "traditional" pictures. Life is so much more interesting when looked at from a different angle, anyway!

Such a fairy-tale place! It's really impossible to see everything there just in one visit. 😕 I don't even imagine I saw much of it at all when I visited it on one dark and rainy day. Which, of course, means it needs to be revisited. Over and over. But even with the throngs of tourists, this site won't let its secrets be revealed. Never. I'm sure. 😊

I was lucky to have good weather each time so I could enjoy it. I never have enough of the garden (skip the palace and its just the same each time). But the nature there is amazing!

Super!
The tower is just amazing!
And the work is amazing, that's why I really like the old buildings and fortresses!
