FungiFriday - A small AI rant and big brothers.

There is this forest in Poland I like. Most of the times we would go mushroom picking it was there. It is not very far, lets say 1h walk from my home and we have been walking there many times before. During my last visit I really... really wanted to go there with a camera and a mushroom basket and that would not be the most enjoyable as the camera weights like a ton and is hanging on my neck :p
That is where big brothers come to the rescue. One day, I got a call from him that he is coming over so we go mushroom picking! He drove 90 km to od it in the middle of the week.
Isn't that just sweet? :)
And these were the first mushrooms I saw after we entered the forest.
One rotten stump and few types of fungi sharing the space.
The moss around it provided enough moisture for all of them.
See the tiny ones popping right from it?
And a big branch like a fence between neighbours.
"Yo, ma man! Is it raining on your side?"
"Nah... but I see clouds coming."
"Brilliant! Cheers bro."

Lastly a little note about the recent AI discussions that took place. I did not want to write another post about it as it would probably turn to a very long rant :p.
AI is here to stay and there is no doubt about it, or a way not to be around it. But it is all a matter of how we - humans use it and how honest we are with each other when using it.
Do we want Hive to be humans sharing their stories, knowledge and thoughts, or do we want to read what bots wrote, because they form sentences better?
English is not my first language and I know I make mistakes, just as others do. And oh boy.. have I seen all kinds of grammar mistakes and typos around. But this doesn't even bother me. It only tells me that someone took their time to write the text they best they could. And they did not use any AI correction tools, enhancers, fixers, call it whatever you want, that will change the sentences, words and style. That what makes the text and the whole account unique. If the text is completely changed and formatted by a bot, it looses the personal touch. Otherwise after a while all posts will start to look the same. But we are not the same - we are all different, come from different backgrounds, cultures and traditions. Why do some try so hard to look (text) and sound the same?
I read someone's comment (I can't remember who or where now, there have been plenty of them lately) that AI helps with formatting and putting the text nicely - if someone can't do such simple thing as adding spaces between paragraphs and needs to use AI to do it (because it does it better), then it's just lazy. Plain and simple. Even the excuse that AI does it better is a lazy one.
I tried to make it very short, it didn't work. Maybe I should I ask AI to summarize it for me in a pretty way :p

Here is a nice AI poem for you. I used ChatGPT to write it for me in just 5 seconds :)
I put a lot of effort into writing the prompt and waiting whole 5 seconds for the result.

I came here for the mushrooms, but I have to add something for the rant :o)
Just like autotune didn't kill music industry, AI language models won't kill blogging. I think that after a while people will see that using too much AI actually strips their texts from all the fine hair that makes it unique and drives readers away, so they will return to normal writing, just using AI for spellchecking and such. All will turn out good in the end.

The issues about the AI has been ongoing. I remember when I once had an employer from Upwork that told me to use ChatGPT for the article I was writing for his website and only take 10 minutes on the time tracker for the whole content. It means they're already after giving less payment, even if it means publishing contents made by AI. And I lost the job.
OMG... I would be less surprised if someone would use ChatGPT to write it and give it to the employer pretending he/she wrote it. Still a shit move, but kindoff more expectable. But suggesting someone one hires to use it too...

About AI, I'm already a bit bored reading past whole week about that attack-defend topic. English is mine second too, I had it only in elementary school as subject - that's all and that was decade ago 😱 even tho 'I' is found so often in my posts, still don't wanna change my english modest writings.
Sometimes I spend more than 2 hours writing one post, it gets me tired, gets me annoyed often especially when I can not remember exact word I need, but still here I am not giving my thoughts to AI.
In case we adopt it here or anywhere else, it will be sterile and boring. There is no tool that part of humanity haven't abuse, technology can make us lazy and dull, it's shame that some don't think of that as a possible future problem.

A beauty lot of photos!... I love the recording details and temperatures... I can almost imagine a little elf or a smurf walking among them!... Really beautiful... You photographed this like little landscapes!... On the other hand, what a weird thing to get an AI to write poems about lazy people!!!... ha ha ha :))... Anyway, you're right, there's no way to get away from the AI, but there will always be that "something" in direct human creation, I say... Like listening to those beautiful acetate LP's!... Nope.
It's easy for you to say: "don't be lazy", simply because you always get HIGH REWARDS. So it is worth your time to write something long.
For others who might use AI to create a post only get tiny rewards (in most cases). A tiny reward for tiny effort you might say!
Most of the users who comment on your posts only comment for rewards! They read your first or last sentence only (saving time). Or simply read other comments and re-word it slightly.

The rewards did not come from publishing AI generated text. In case you did not notice.
And it is still too much as it is not their creation, but something AI did for them. Do we want to reward users or AI here?
On top of that they probably hide that it is AI, so it is also lying to everyone around and tricking curators to think they actually did put some effort. Lazy and cheating! :p

Would you continue to write long posts (that require time and effort) or would you start to think it's easier to just use AI for a small reward (not worth the effort).
I would not start using AI because that is not my content. Simple.
Going lazy way will definitely no bring rewards back and will not make people suddenly be interested in your posts.

I totally enjoyed the mushroom photos and the rant. I agree with you and although I embrace technological development it would be a shame and maybe the demise of Hive as it uniqueness will be gone - like you said.

Oh I do enjoy AI. I play with images and with the text. Some results are quite surprising, other hilarious. But I don't publish it saying I wrote it myself, like some others do.

I guess scammers gonna scam, as we say. To me being on Hive was never about the rewards. My posts never get much in the rewards department and that is fine by me. I post what I like and when I like. I look at it much how people used to write a diary or journal of their lives. Much of it is small things, but I enjoy looking back sometimes and remembering those times from past posts.

Yes they will. And will always find a way to do it with minimum effort as long as they can get some reward for it. They do not think of Hive in general, they do not care about sharing something or participating in th community, they just think of their own pocket in this moment.
I heard it can make a video and voiceover too. So I wonder how Youtube will deal with it, or if it will. Of course no real person in the video, so something you do cannot be replaced.
Totally true. I know they say those "deepfake" videos are getting better and better all the time. I guess it is going to be a crazy, but interesting future!

Hey @ewkaw. Maybe this is out of topic. That some people here--I'm one of them--think you're a man. And once, I talked to a friend of mine who works in Poland, he's Indonesian. I told him I had a Polish friend--I mean you--and told him your name. He said most of the names "Ewka" here (Polish) refer to girls. I was shocked to know that. Later, I tried to search on IG by typing the keyword "Ewka", and sure enough, all Polish women's accounts appeared. 😄 LOL!
