FungiFriday - The valley of giants
Sometimes the biggest surprise awaits us right at the end. Literally the biggest!
I was already heading home, close to the exit of the forest. I ended up on a small, green path surrounded by very thick and messy bushes. I don't think this place is very popular among people. The twigs were hitting my head and pulling on the jumper. It was like some secret passage that nobody knows about (though I have known that path since I was a kid, just a bit cleaner).
And all the messy bushes and trees with piles of fallen leaves between them were the perfect place for these mushrooms to grow.
They were huge, silvery, and shiny. The biggest ones had hats the size of a large grapefruit. And there were dozens of them, all sticking out from between the leaves.
I have no idea what they are. Google is not helping. But I keep saying I am terrible at identifying them. That doesn't stop me from enjoying photographing them. They are a great, very static object, even on a windy day :)

See how they were all protected by the young trees and bushes? I had to do yoga here to get a little bit closer.

Wow! Very nice find. They are so big and juicy! Perhaps they are edible, not too colourful.
I actually have no idea if they are. It would be even nicer find if they were and I knew about it. Would be a nice mushroom dish out of this amount.

No, don't worry, it is just Spanish mushrooms that got affected hahaha
By the amount that there are it seems that these are not consumed by any animal, the other day I read on the internet about a fungus that despite being edible contains carcinogenic substances, and scientists do not recommend its consumption, it is a fungus that has an intense smell of anise and a blue-green color.
Oh it must be so pretty!
I don't know if this one is not edible, or just no animal found it yet. Many are ok to eat by humans too. I just dont know them, so I leave them where they are.
How beautiful it is to return to places where we walked as children, and especially if you can discover a huge colony of giant mushrooms. What a beautiful find, dear friend @ewkaw, it was definitely worth walking there.

What a coincidence! You publishing about gingery mushrooms, and me on the other hand with some tiny ones that I literally saw on the pavement on my way home!

For this Friday, unfortunately I don't have material for our great fungi friends. Since I'm heading to Porto for the weekend, who knows if I get lucky there, and can share with the community on the other Friday :)

This time @ewkaw I have never seen this mushroom, with this big crown and its very small stem. They remind me of flying saucers, in fact I found traces of their UFOs. As well as its inhabitants! Good day
