Up and down on the seven hills

Lisbon streets August bw 2.jpg

Wanna go see Lisbon?
Rule number one - get comfy shoes.
Rule number two - make sure you get really comfy shoes.
Rule number three - prepare for a lot of climbing and do not forget the comfy shoes!*

I heard that Lisbon is called a city of seven hills... oh if only. It is like a never-ending roller coaster of stairs and steep and very slippery sidewalks.

Once you have to have to climb up, to have to go down around the corner. Lots of narrow streets with old, scruffy buildings mixed with the new ones covered in glass. I still don't know how delivery cars manage to drive there.

The photos here are not from the part that is normally flooded with tourists (the very center and all the way up to the castle on top of one of the hills). It is the other side which is equally nice, but less crowded and less hyped.

Despite the heat, some streets are so narrow that is easy to find shadow provided by the buildings on both sides.

Let's have a little peek through the door here.
That's what I thought - up again.

There is a tram there that works like an elevator going up and down. And looks like a quite a big attraction.
The etreet is on the angle, but the tram floor is flat. You can get a better idea of what I am saying on this photo.

I didn't know it was there in a first place until I looked though the door. I did see a big queue from a distance though. As I got closer, I thought it was for the burger place that is just right next to it. First thought: "damn, those must be some special burgers to make people stand in a queue for them". But to my disappointment, it wasn't the awesome burgers that had all the people waiting there. They were queueing for the elevator 😏.

Aaaand up again...

A little photoshoot on the stairs. Quite narrow with one tree sticking out in the middle and a big blue building on the right (it was all covered in lovely, blue tiles. There will be time to post it in colour. It was stunning!).

And down...
I can't even remember right now where exactly that was. It is a maze.
A very enjoyable maze if you like just walking around.

*Unless you are planning just sit and sip wine. No comfy shoes needed :)

I bet the girls there has a very little collection of heels. !LOLZ
must be nice to ride the tram up and down of the hills there, but waiting in long line just to ride it might not be that pleasant rather than walking up and down (if we still have the power) hahah

hahaha well I don't have any :D
There is another tram, one of those old ones too, that goes around the city. It is much better than this one if you want to have a look around without all the walking.

Yes friends, it means that the city of Lisbon has buildings above the height. I've seen buildings like this on television usually in the Brazilian area.Like in the fast furious movie which is located in Brazil, it's almost the same as in the picture that your friend shows.

There is so much talk about "comfy shoes" so I started wondering about brand too..😉 the other thing that pulled me are the photographs...though I got to know of the brand (1+7Pro) as I am planning my next phone so i got some insight into the beautiful camera quality...waiting to see the colourful aspect too..

hahaha No brand... as long as they are comfy :)

It is a nice phone, though not the newest. I had older version too and was very happy with it too (though I don't have high demands if it comes to smartphones in general).

I am more comfortable with my basic phone...but the digital world wants us to be smarter. I am carrying 4 years old phone but now developing some snag. .... looking forward to see the colorful aspect too

I've never seen photos of Lisbon, so I had no clue it was so challenging! Love the black & white shots, as well as your rules! 😁

Hahah important rules :D
There are some more flat parts, but in general it is very hilly which makes it more interesting. Fun to walk around too.

Looking at your photos, Lisbon is a beautiful city! Though it requires a much time of strolling, I think it's just worth it because of the huge and authentic structures. Thank you for sharing, @ewkaw!

One of the cities with the steepest slopes indeed though Genova might rank higher on that list. Lisboa is such an interesting capital. Colourful neighbourhoods, poor ones, richer ones, scenic ones, all together create a unique city. Portugal in general was a pleasant surprise to me. Would gladly go back anytime possible.

Oh I have never been there. I googled some photos now and it looks pretty amazing too :)
A lot of contrasts here indeed.

I prefer Lisboa. Genova is a chaotic labyrinth inside with tiny backstreets on steep slopes that even with a motorcycle it's hard to make a U turn if you go wrong. To give you an idea here's two of my incidents there:
a) Unable to find my airbnb despite the aid from my Google maps I call my host. She comes out and tells me "All GPS system fail here, only one guest of mine managed to find my place straight and he was using TOM TOM (one of the best).
b) On my departure day I loose my way out of the city and I stop a scooter with two girls on to ask them directions. They tell me "we also go out of the city so just follow us". I say "great, sorry but it's my first time here" and they say "oh no worries, we also loose our way here".
That said its definitely interesting to walk if you have the mood and ability to walk a lot. Here's my trip there: https://www.orestistrips.com/my-trips/fd-tour-montenegro-croatia-slovenia-switzerland-italy/part8genova

Lovely city and I would not mind at all spending a day on walking round. That one narrow street there is really narrow :D

A very unusual landscape for me. Old European cities - lots of stairs, narrow streets, and height differences. But it looks really cool. But, probably, it is very inconvenient to walk like this every day, primarily to deliver purchases home.

I am sure that people living there are used to it. But yea... heavy shopping can be challenging.

The city life is so quiet, hundreds of cars are neatly parked and it is a sight to behold, the pictures you share are also quite beautiful

It is actually far from a quiet city. Just some smaller streets are less busy, but it is full of people and cars.
Thank you :)

My goodness these photos take my breath away! Especially the last one, I feel my heart in my throat. Great stuff! I love the first one of the girl and two women on the steps, the closer one. Great composition and movement.

So, were you wearing comfy shoes?

Aww thanks! Imagine walking on streets like that the whole day. I could shoot every single one of them and they would look cool.

Of course!! :D

Those are some great cinematic shots. Capturing the steepness of the hills, the tram and stairs, such remarkable technique.

Many high-rise buildings in Lisbon, it is very cool in black and white, I have no doubt at all that the city of Lisbon is very famous, but you this finger managed to make me laugh by seeing so many high-rise buildings there and accompanied by very enchanting natural beauty.
Good shot my friend👍👍
