Why so evil?

Silver Y moth lavender pl 9.jpg

Moths are evil.
Everyone knows that! They will flap their dusty wings near your eyes and tangle in your hair. You are lucky if you have no hair in this case I guess.
Then they will stare at you blabbing some evil spells. Oh yes. There are spells. Just cause you don't hear them, doesn't mean they are not there. The worst of all the evil spells.

There is one solution only to handle so much nastiness.
Catch them in the thick glass jar, cover the exit with a newspaper and quickly remove the flying witch outside. All this must be done smoothly and confidently. They will sense your fear and come back with backup.

After you have done all that close all the windows, blinds, curtains and hide under the blanket.
You have survived another day.

Well done!

Ok, not that you have gone though my gibberish, I have a nasty moth for ya :)

They are commonly known as Silver Y moth and this is due to the white pattern on their wings, which you can see on the photos.

I was surprised to see this one feeding on the flowers during the day in the full, hot sun. But apparently the Y moth does that. She will fly both during the day and night.
It can be often found in the gardens as the adult feeds on nectar, but it will also look for a place to lay eggs. Larvae will feed on garden plants like peas or cabbage.

Ever beware cupiditous seduction, that sassy sway of her abdomen, the smug cant of her thorax, so luxuriantly attired in what looks like beautiful hair, coiffed to perfection.

It's all a lie! Moths have no actual hair. Such deception can only deliver destruction.

Good thing we are warned in our dreams.

Even though the moth is evil, it still looks beautiful and I love it @ewkaw :)

When this or a similar one appeared in Poland in the 90s, people though it was a hummingbird.

Ohhh there is one called Hawk moth. It is about the same size and colour, but does fly like a humming bird. Very cool one!

I have had the acquaintance of a woman who many years ago related her terrifying tale of being attacked by rampaging, bloody-fanged moths. While I regurgitated the pacifying disinfo I had dutifully memorized by rote during my indoctrination in public school, to the effect that moths aren't vertebrates, and have no fangs (some even are claimed to have no mouthparts or ability to feed at all - the laughable naivety that washed down such drivel gives me no end of regret when I am started awake in the deep night, cringing at my youth and ignorance), today I cannot properly state my gratitude at that first, early warning of the existential danger moths present to ourselves and any hope of survival granted our posterity.

Thankfully we can now depend on fear to rule our lives, as promulgated through the beneficent media we are availed by our peerless overlords. Let us all flee in terror at the mere mention of the mothy horrors lurking in every crevice, salting every wound, and feasting on our vital essence.

Thanks!

We need more people like the woman you met! The moths are there and they wait for the right moment to attack. Hiding in the darkness of the night... Sharping their teeth and claws...
Some are cheeky enough to come out during the day and try to full us.
Fear not, you are not aloe! (but hide anyway as a safety measure).
