Birecik Festival/Birecik Festivali [EN/TR]

Hello Hive Tr family!
In these days when we are slowly leaving the summer behind, we are entering the process of renewing ourselves as a mode with the weather. I think the emotional states that each season leaves on people differ. While summer brought joy for some, for others it gave the feeling that let's end and let's get to the cold. I don't know about you, but I'm not a summer person, I've always been overwhelmed by extremely hot and humid weather. Because going for a walk in the summer in that heat is like Chinese torture for me. I've always liked the middle seasons more, like autumn and spring...

The weather is neither hot nor cold, that's one of the things I love the most. Now that we are in the fall, I feel more peaceful. It's like sipping hot coffee while watching the occasional rain and starting my favorite series Harry Potter for the millionth time or daydreaming while reading Jane Austen classics...

Where I live now, festivals and concerts have started to be organized as the weather gets cooler. Because as I said, no one wants to organize events here in summer.

I went to the Birecik festival last year with my teacher friends to relieve the stress of the first week of school. Although it is a small district where I live, there were nice events in its own right.

At the entrance, we were greeted by the art exhibition that middle and high school students from Birecik had worked hard for.

While examining the beautiful paintings, we were both surprised and happy to see how talented the students were.

At first, the painting on a huge canvas attracted everyone's attention, but this painting belonged not to a student but to their teacher. When you look at the painting, you realize at first glance that it was painted by someone with experience.

After leaving the painting exhibition, we were greeted by stands selling homemade products. They were very beautiful stalls with a variety of products.

Dried bell peppers, eggplants, zucchini, dried tomatoes, handmade natural pepper and tomato paste, natural pomegranate syrups, Isot (a kind of hot spice) from the Urfa region, handmade pickles, village cheeses and many other things.

There were really nice and delicious things, but we couldn't buy them because we didn't carry cash with us, and we couldn't use a card because they didn't have a POS device. But they gave us the card of their store and invited us there so that we could shop there.

At the next stand, there were flavors from the Urfa region, where homemade food was served. Stuffed meatballs (İçli köfte), çarpana dish, trileçe dessert, wet cake, minced meat dishes, stuffed mumbar etc..

Actually, we were going to taste the İçli Köfte -stuffed meatballs, but we gave up when we heard the announcement that kebab would be served because kebab is so filling that there is no room left in your stomach to eat anything else.

According to the announcement, they were going to make the longest kebab at 63 meters. It was hard to believe at first, but when we saw the kebab area, we were surprised once again.
Because there were barbecue sets set up along the Euphrates River and the cooks were cooking a 63 meter kebab.

Although I could only take photos from a distance because there was a lot of smoke and it was a bit dangerous, it was really worth seeing.

The kebabs served to people, the taste of the bread etc. everything was very good.

After eating our kebabs, while walking around the festival area, we heard the announcement that the governor was coming there. When the governor was to arrive, there was a small folk dances team show.

Girls in local clothes played halay, the dance of Urfa, accompanied by drums and zurna. Even though it was a bit too noisy, it was very energetic and joyful. In general, people here have a lot of love for the halay, which seems very strange to me, I guess because of the cultural difference. Nevertheless, it was a very nice show.

After the show was over, we continued to visit the remaining stands. A little further on we came to the place where there were huge trays of baklava.

Baklava is a very famous dessert all over Turkey, but it is generally more integrated with the cities of Gaziantep and Şanlıurfa. Of course, we could not remain indifferent to this beautiful flavor, we had two slices of baklava each and it was a nice transition to kebab. Since baklava is a high-calorie dessert, it can usually strain the stomach after 2 slices, of course it varies from person to person. (For example, I think @incublus and my father can compete in the baklava race)

Right next to the baklava stand, there was someone making special chickpea wraps for Birecik.

When I first came here, I was surprised to hear chickpea wraps because it seemed very strange to make wraps with chickpeas and frankly, I didn't think it would be delicious. But even when I ate it for the first time, I loved its taste. Chickpea wraps are a morning meal around here. People often prefer it for breakfast because it is both practical and cheap. Especially for working people, it is a very savior option that you can take with you and eat immediately when you are late for work, and it is a satisfying food that will keep you full until noon while working. As the name chickpea wrap suggests, it is a dish of well-boiled chickpeas mixed with spices and served with onion, parsley and lemon squeezed on top of the bread that people here call pita bread.

Finally, there was a stand of handmade products made by women. I couldn't take many photos because it was too crowded, but there were very beautiful embroidery and handicrafts.

It was a stand where women, who are generally not in working life, go to public education courses and learn handicraft products and then offer them for sale. They both create a new hobby area for themselves and thus contribute financially to their homes. I was very enthusiastic when I saw them. I am usually not very skilled in this kind of work, but the instructor of the course I talked to there encouraged me by saying that she would help me when I arrived and that I would gradually make progress. I am thinking of going and meeting at a suitable time. Who knows, maybe there is a talented person in me who just needs to work a little

Merhaba Hive Tr ailesi!

İnsanlara ikram edilen kebapların , ekmeğin tadı vs her şey fazlasıyla güzeldi.

I would also attend a festival like this, with my teacher friends. To relax or to have fun, it doesn't matter but it looks like a great time to spend together! :)
