Hello everyone,
How are you all doing? I hope you all enjoyed the holideys as i did. I'm back again with another graphite drawing which appear to be a portrait drawing of an old man. One thing i can say is I'm less of writer but more of an artist. If you've seen my past works you would know how obsessed i am about drawing old people. The wrinkles on there faces were what i aimed at while drawing its been a while rough road so far.

I started this drawing with a 2B pencil which i made use of in making the rough sketch. Note the rough sketch has to be done faintly and could be easily erased. After the sketch i brought out my big gun which was my 10B Bianyo Pencil. I so much love the texture it gives on a paper so i went along with it and started to shade out the face.

I started from the left eye then the nose and the right eye, i alway made sure i started from the left hand side to the right hand side to avoid smudging. Making a pattern for yourself is really important. I went on and on till i got to the hair which was one of the most interesting parts. I used an indenting pen to draw out the hair before shading on it which brought out a perfectly formed white hair. This has been my secret weapon for a long time you should also try it out. And then i shaded underneath for the final touch and there you have it. I want to appreciate you for taking your time to read my post see you next time. Also feel free to leave a comment i would love to read and reply them all.

Drawing and painting faces is the most difficult thing there is. I have learned this over many years, as well as hands and feet, and the key is in the folds or wrinkles, as you mention. In all cases, this is achieved through a combination of light and shadow to create a sense of relief, of actual volume.

But your practice has put you on the right track. You've drawn a very good portrait, and the best way to keep improving your work is to keep drawing. Very, very good work!

I really understand you a lot cause, it to me a long time to perfect my act and it's been a long time since I've made any Freehand portrait drawing. So I'm still trying to perfect my act. Drawing the nose, hand and feet can be tricky some times, I learnt how to draw those from an old artist from Germany who gave free tutorials and followed up with assignments 😀. I'm really glad I was opportune to learn under him. But the must important thing is to keep practicing, draw as much as you can and observe your mistakes on every piece. I got to this point by drawing everyday for months.

Thanks you so much for your nice comments and words. I really appreciate it 🙏 😌.

I started my drawing and painting classes when I was 6 years old and attended them for more than 11 years... it takes time, but you can do it. Then, about 10 years ago, I taught painting classes for several years. It was very satisfying to teach what I had learned. Thank you!
