An unfinished but not forgotten dream / Un sueño inconcluso pero no olvidado.. [ENG/ESP]

Hello friends music lovers...

Greetings @fabian98 and in my first publication in this community that I feel like my home, I wanted to share one of my biggest dreams that although I managed to start I have not yet been able to finish it.

When you are a child you always have dreams or goals to accomplish, most of my schoolmates wanted to be policemen, businessmen, or even politicians. But I had a very different direction, since I like volunteer service and helping others and although I am currently doing that dream and I love doing it, there is still another dream I have to fulfill that I have not been able to finish to this day: "My career as a pianist".

When I was about 10 years old, I saw for the first time the film of the director Roman Polanski "The Pianist" and although it was very horrible to see all the evils committed in the 2nd world war, watching that movie was born in me a great desire to do the same as Wladyslaw Szpilman (Adrien Brody) to be a professional pianist and be able to play masterpieces of classical music and also contemporary music. The sensation of being able to play music by pressing the keys and hearing the melody seemed incredible to me, so from that moment on I set the goal that one day I would start a career as a pianist.

After a while, I found out that one of the music schools in my city taught piano professionally, so I saw my perfect opportunity to start fulfilling my dreams. But I realized something that stopped me immediately and it was the requirements to start studying piano. The basic requirements of that career were solfège of the first year approved, it was necessary to have a basic average knowledge about everything related to solfège, also to know the key of F (which is indispensable to play the piano) the tonalities, and all the symbols that appeared in the scores.

Of course, it was a little hard for me to know that I had to wait 2 more years to fulfill my dream, but I saw it as an opportunity to further develop my passion for music. So in that course of two years, I studied recorder in my introductory year of solfège (Preparatory), and the second level of solfège I studied classical guitar, in this career, was a dilemma since I thought that contemporary guitar and classical guitar were the same things, but my goal in studying guitar was to know how to play chords like Ed Sheeran and compose simple songs.

But what a surprise I got when in the first classical guitar class, they gave me some scores with all the scales that I had to play on the guitar, and the truth is that I had never seen so many eighth notes together. But with practice, I was able to play them one by one and I was even able to participate in 2 guitar recitals of the music scale.

Then when I finished the second level of solfège and was finally approved after so much waiting, I could enroll in piano after 2 years of long waiting finally my dream was beginning to be fulfilled, but other problems beyond my reach would come that made me have to leave my piano career.

The high cost of instruments.

I didn't have a keyboard and I practiced my homework at the same music school arriving 2 hours before each class, obviously at that pace I was never going to be able to progress as I wanted since I wasn't giving myself the time to learn calmly. But when I wanted to buy a 5-octave keyboard I found 2 big problems.

First, the keyboards are extremely expensive, unfortunately, all the new instruments are sold 5 to 8 times more expensive than the ones sold abroad. And if you want to buy something used get used to finding instruments of mediocre quality at a price almost like new.

The second thing is the salary that is not enough and the constant inflation since the money in bolivars is devalued at a fast pace and what you have today is not worth anything tomorrow. And that's what happened to me because when I decided to buy a 5-octave keyboard, it cost around $150 for a new one and of excellent quality either Casio or Yamaha, but every week it went up to $10 more, so I had to work more to buy it, until one day it went up to $50 all at once and also an emergency arose so I had to spend what I had saved and I couldn't buy the keyboard to continue advancing in my career as a pianist.

An unfinished but not forgotten dream.

So after trying, by all means, to get a keyboard and even making an unsuccessful campaign on gofundme, I gave up on not being able to have the essential instrument to continue in my career as a pianist, since in the following year of piano it was already totally mandatory to have a piano or a keyboard of 5 or more octaves.

So after giving my first piano recital in August 2017, I had to say goodbye to my career as a pianist, it was very painful as it is something I love very much. Even to this day I miss playing the piano very much and since that last recital I haven't played the piano again, I still haven't forgotten anything I have learned as I practice from time to time with my imaginary piano and remember the mobility of my hands.

Now that 4 years have passed and I am married, I plan to gather little by little to buy a semi-professional keyboard so I can teach piano to my wife and continue my career as an amateur... And although now I'm only left with memories of how I was able to fulfill my dream, I know that soon I will start again and this time it will be much better than that piano recital in 2017.

Thank you very much for reading, I want to remind you that the video posted here is my property, the images are not and that's why here below are the links listed so you can see where I took them from, and I have not been able to post the video on 3Speak.tv since I constantly get an error code and I don't know how to do it.
